Supplementary Table 1. Aspects participants liked about the videos

The explanations of each stage of the journey from dialysis to transplant was presented very well.

They were simple and straight-forward. It was helpful to have them broken down into sections and in sequence with what happens during the transplant process. Seeing familiar faces from the transplant team was reassuring.

It gives you rough idea what to expect .Worst case scenario, precautions and solutions.

All of it (3 participants) Medication information

Explains step by step and including patient’s experience.

Loved all of it, and the videos have been the most helpful and informative educational tools that I’ve found so far.

Thank you so much!!!

Life after transplant/ the last video (3 participants)

Yes. If it weren’t for joining this study I wouldn’t have known most of what was in video 5&6.

Peoples take on situations Video 4 and 5

It took a lot of pressure off being able to re-watch to repeat info.

Information and life stories (2 participants) The educational aspect and what to expect.

Simple and easy to understand.

The kidney section (second part). I really found that interesting. The waiting, assessment, and waiting list. Operation and recovery. All of it was very informative and interesting. It was so well done, it was excellent, I can't pick a favorite. I liked that there were people, actual patients talking. We liked listening to other patients.

Found all the videos informative.

Real life humans with the same issues Explanation of need for anti-rejection drugs They are very informative

I think the videos provided good information for me, who has asked a lot of questions and done a lot of research, and for those who know very little about transplantation.

The personal experience.

Got to the point.

Patients sharing their experiences and the positive messaging in the videos.

I like the fact that these videos provide the good and the potential bad affects of the whole process, in particular post transplantation. Yes of course the facts about the having to take life long anti-rejection medications and their effects are not palatable but the alternative is to continue with dialysis and put with all the issues it provides and its life style impacts.

Clear

Clear and concise

The operation part I need to know what I'm going under the knife for and how long I'm going to be out of commission

Very informative, easy to understand, explanations were good, the animation was good and helpful.

When the doctor said u can have side effects when getting a transplant

The parts where the patients and the Doctors narrate how each one know, has gone through and feels about the whole process,

Thorough. Truthful.

How they were presented - informative - good visual

How the videos take you through the steps of the disease and also the interviews with the people who have been through the process.

I liked the transplant info and after transplant info.

I hope someday that I receive a kidney and I could watch it over and over because it was so informative. A wonderful job, great education. It helped me understand things a lot better.

The explanations and people that come on the video to speak. The ones with the transplant.

I liked that it was from a patients point of view and that actual patients talked on the videos.

I could watch them at my convenience and could repeat them, if I chose to.

I got something out of every video

The detailed explanations of each process of kidney transplant.

It answered a lot if the questions I had

Presentation, animation and speakers, easy to follow

The real people who experienced the process and their real advice. The ups and downs That there is videos, informative

(2)

To the point in easy to understand

Video 3. Army against and the immo Army. The smiling and gradually frowning kidney then the smile again. Very very easy to understand the stait of transplant.

These videos described issues that I have yet to hear about. To me, this should be explained to every patient as early as possible as to not have people finding out pertinent information much further in the process. If I would have had seen these videos earlier in my diagnosis, I believe I wouldn’t have been so stressed out.

Supplementary table 2. Aspects participants disliked about the videos

I have nothing negative to say about the videos.

Nothing/not applicable/ (21 participants) They were all informative (3 participants) Introduction

They almost felt that they talked down to you Animation/ Cartoon narrative (2 participants) I enjoyed it all. (2 participants)

The medication part I didn't quite understand because I'm not there yet.

Having to type in a password.

Not enough information about when a TX goes sideways, or information that a TX is not a cure for KD ,quality of life changes . Not enough definition on the meaning of a Successful TX and how it’s interrupted by Recipient and Family.

I would have liked more info, but then I always do.

Could be a bit shorter The scenarios

The side effects u get or if u get it is when u get a lot of movement

I noticed several people interviewed had waited 5 years for a kidney. That was discouraging. Also i already knew most of info in videos 1-3. But the info was still good

Big words.

They were a little simplistic.

Wish there was more variety in age of patients speaking.

Had a hard time watching the waiting part. Very deep emotion as I've been waiting a long time. It was very very well described and seeing the emotions of Mark was very real. Well done.

Would have appreciated seeing the videos at the beginning to understand the process and requirements more completely to understand and prepare for process.

No, I guess the only thing, and it was mentioned and maybe you can't go into detail was about a renal diet. How much is safe, with potassium and phosphorus? But you can't talk about everything. Whoever put this together did such a wonderful job! It's so real, compliments to whoever put this together. All the work they must have done, the time!
