Sometimes it is challenging to figure out how to speak in different social settings. Especially how formal and informal we should speak. The way we speak or communicate depends on many different factors, and it is always context-dependent.To speak or communicate correctly not only depends on the knowledge of vocabulary and grammar but also on the knowledge of cultural context. Speaking or communicating correctly is such an important issue to guarantee the messages have been delivered just the way it is. To deal with the issue, Dell Hymes promotes some components or frameworks of ethnography communication.
These components help us how to effectively communicate in different social contexts.
Related to the context given and its relation to the component of ethnography communication, the analysis will be:
Genre
This component refers to the category of the event. In this case, the genre is INTERVIEW.
Topic
This component refers to what people or participants are talking about. In this case, the topic is OCCUPATIONS OR WORKS.
Purpose
This component refers to the goal or the outcome of communication. In other words, it refers to what is the point of having the communication. In this case, the purpose is to TRY TO GET HIRED BY THE COMPANY.
Setting
This component refers to the location where the communication occurs(physical location).In this case, the setting is in the OFFICE OR INTERVIEW’S ROOM.
The key or emotional tone
This component refers to the thing that is being communicated. In this case, the key is SERIOUS.
Participants
This component refers to the people who have communication in a particular context. In this case, the participants are INTERVIEWEE AND AUDIENCE.
Act Sequence
This component refers to the order or the sequence of the communication. In this case, the act sequence isis GREETING, BROAD QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS, AND POSITION- RELATED QUESTIONS.
