My advisors, Mr. Agung Wicaksono and Mrs. Sulistyani, who always give me support, guidance and knowledge to do this skripsi. Thesis, Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Nusantara PGRI Kediri, 2023. English speaking ability in SMK PGRI 4 Kediri can still be said to be low, they need to learn a lot rather about speaking, the researcher wants to apply learning media, namely YouTube to students' speaking skills, if there will be changes in their skills later.

Therefore, the researchers wanted to do this research aims to know if there is any significant difference or not after giving the learning medium namely YouTube in the speaking skills of students in eleventh grade SMK PGRI 4 Kediri. The subject of this research is the eleventh grade TKRO 2 at SMK PGRI 4 Kediri which consists of 25 students. Thanks be to God for His blessings and approval, the task of completing this skripsi can be completed.

This skripsi is a final project that was used as one of the requirements to obtain a Bachelor of Education degree in the English Language Education Department. Chancellor of the University of Nusantara PGRI Kediri, who always gives me support and motivation. And to all parties who cannot be mentioned one by one, who have contributed to speed up the completion of this skripsi.

It is realized that this thesis still has many shortcomings, therefore it is expected that criticism and suggestions are expected from various parties.

Background of the Research

In this part, we will present the background of the research, the identification of problems, the limitation of the research, research questions, the importance of the research and the definition of key terms. Speaking covers many aspects or components in English such as grammar, vocabulary, cohesiveness and coherence. The teacher focused on the function of language and neglected other components such as grammar.

Another problem was that the teacher focused on getting students' maximum scores than improving skills. YouTube is a website that the user of the internet can upload and share about their video. According to Kindarto YouTube is a portal website that services video sharing by using YouTube, the students as users can watch the video.

By using YouTube as a medium, the students can learn to speak, which will help them improve their speaking skills. Based on the above explanation, the researcher strongly believes that YouTube can improve the speaking skills of students of the XI students of SMK PGRI 4 academic year 2022/2023.

Students can use this research as a reference to find methods or media to improve speaking skills so that the media students use in learning to speak is more diverse. This research can be used by teachers to implement YouTube in student learning in improving speaking skills. The school could do and provide every opportunity for students to improve their speaking skills.

Definition of Key Terms

They give us the ability to convey information verbally and in a way that the listener can understand. Hymes developed this model as part of a new methodology called ethnography of speech. This model is a tool to help identify and label the components of interactional linguistics, which was guided by his view that in order to speak a language correctly, we must not only learn its vocabulary and grammar, but also the context in which the words are used.

Basically, learning the components of a speech model is essential for language competence.

This means that speech is skill that the person needs some kind of processing that can be controlled or automatically produced by someone. Therefore, it can be concluded that speech is productive skill that a person as a speaker and another as a listener or listeners in making communication between them transmitted a message. Speaking for students also has some elements that are fluency, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and content.

This means that speech is the process of our mind to create language until it makes sense and can be used to interact or communicate with other people. One of the problems in language teaching is to enable students to use the language (By gate, 1987:3). Language use can usually be demonstrated by looking at a student's speaking skills. By observing the speaking skills of the students, the teacher will be able to know how far the students are using the language.

This means that the use of visual aids such as picture or even video can make students speak and also improve their speaking skills. Not only can students speak, but students can also create relationships with someone else using visual aids or they can present what they see from the video. From some definition above it can be concluded that YouTube is web that contains some videos that people can share the video with other people.

The students can not only hear the language but can also see it. It can be used for the teaching aids and lets the students know the general meaning conveyed by expression, gestures and other visual cues. This means that the video gives the students information about another culture in another country.

This means that the video when students create themselves makes them creative to do something. Therefore, the teacher should stop and start the video if necessary and the students should know the content of the video. To solve the problem, the teacher must design activities to keep students engaged.

The teacher can also be frustrated when the machine does not work as they would like. Real-world video: Using video shows students real life outside the classroom, such as feature film, exercise "manual" and wildlife documentaries.

The main advantage is that they were designed with students at a specific level in mind. Thus, they are likely to be comprehensible, designed to attract the learner's thematic interest, and multi-purpose, to be used not only for language learning but also for other activities. The teacher not only uses the book as a material, but can also improve the material or make it from the Internet.

In other words, the Internet is very useful in teaching the learning process, especially in the teaching or learning of foreign languages. The teacher and the learner can know how to use the language in everyday life. As the teaching learning process, the teacher will be able to find many activities in the class.

In teaching speaking, the Internet can be used for the topic to be discussed in class. The material they search for online can lead them to discuss or present with friends. Juju says that YouTube is a popular site where user can find videos related to movie trailer, accident, music concert, tutorial, etc.

YouTube not only uses the internet user to share their videos but also the user can find the video they want. When learning a language, it serves many films on how to learn a foreign language, especially when learning English. According to Prakos, YouTube serves the user to find the type of video they are looking for (2009).

Kindarto also states that the Internet user can find videos with different categories everywhere by using YouTube (2008). It means that the user of the Internet can find any video he is looking for. Video makes it possible to see this in action and freeze every moment to study non-verbal communication in detail.

Rationale

It is a complex skill that requires a creative process from the speaker in formulating what he/she says, requiring comprehensibility, accuracy, appropriateness and fluency in the process. The students lacked fluency, limited vocabulary, ungrammatical sentences, mispronunciation and could not express the content. The students were also grumbling, not active and creative, did not have the courage to express their idea, became bored in teaching the learning process, and they carried out their own activity within the classroom while teaching the learning process.

As a result, the researcher proposes YouTube video as a media in classroom action research, which is used to improve students' speaking skills and improve the classroom situation. Secondly, as teenagers, students always tell their friends what they feel or see. YouTube will be a medium used by the students to tell their friends based on the video.

Students can watch the interesting videos and tell their friends about the videos they are watching. The students are not fluent, limited vocabulary, make sentences ungrammatical, poor pronunciation, and do not know the content they are talking about. By using YouTube videos, the students will learn about real life which is different with the book they are reading.

The classroom situation also has some problems, such as students complaining when asked to practice, not active and creative, not paying attention, not taking courage, and the teaching learning process feels boring. The use of YouTube videos will solve the problems because they have some interesting videos. Therefore, the students will be active and creative, be attentive, have the courage to practice, teach the learning process entertainingly and not complain.

From the elaboration of the above researcher's arguments, the researcher can reason from this research that this research is worth doing or researching because YouTube itself can improve and give effect to students' speaking skills. This improvement can be in the form of students' accuracy in speaking, students' fluency in speaking practice, especially in terms of self-presentation. YouTube itself also increases the interaction of communication with other people because students will involve other people in the process of practicing their self-presentation.
