Background

The use of videos for teaching writing procedure text can make students interested in the teaching and learning process. To solve the problem, the author chooses the title "Teaching writing procedure text using video on YouTube".

Research Question

To make learning writing procedure text easier for students to learn, the teacher can use video to help students create their knowledge in written procedure text form based on the video. Finally, based on the author experiment and observation, the author chooses the third semester English Education Department of Bosowa University to conduct the research.

We very rarely hear a disembodied voice in real life, but as teachers we constantly ask our students to work with recorded conversations of people they never see. The setting, action, emotions, gestures, etc. that our students can observe in a video clip provide an important visual stimulus for language production and practice.

Some Pertinent Ideas 1. Review on Writing

Text

According to Pardiyono (2012: 2), text is a form of communication expression in the form of writing, greeting, images or symbols, created with the aim of conveying certain messages to others. Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary states that "Text is the main written or printed part of a book page, as opposed to notes". In other references it also states on the same point that “Text is a discourse or composition on which a note or comment is written; the original words of an author, as distinguished from a paraphrase, annotation or commentary.” And Longman Dictionary of Applied Linguistics stated that “Text/text/ is a piece of spoken or written language.

According to the explanation above, the researcher concluded that text is a part that has composition on which a note is written, also that it has structure and function. The types or characteristics of a text are very important for any work of summarizing it. Media text such as film, videos, television programs and CDs can also fall into this category.

The most important text types in this categorization are; retelling, response, explanation, discussion, information report, outline and procedure.

Procedure Text

In particular, the social function of procedural text was to tell someone how to do or make something and how to operate something. The use of adverbs to express details of time and place, manner, etc., for example: 'for five minutes', '2 centimeters from the top', 'carefully'.

Video

The various media adopted by the teachers can motivate the students to learn and make them feel comfortable during the teaching-learning process in the classroom. Because the video consists of action, students can learn about body language based on the action of the video. When teaching the writing process, teachers are free to choose the appropriate techniques for using video.

In the freeze frame, the teacher presses pause so that the video freezes on the screen. In the writing activity, YouTube video can be used to build students' creativity to compose or summarize the sequence. YouTube video is used to teach learning as a means to convey the learning materials to achieve the objectives more easily.

YouTube videos in teaching writing skills make the content easier for students to understand, and most contain a wealth of cultural material that can be tapped into with little preparation.

Conceptual Framework

Hypothesis

H1: The use of YouTube video in the teaching process of text writing in the English Education Department of Bosowa University in the third semester is not effective. Based on the results of the research, the hypothesis can be formulated as follows: the use of YouTube video is effective in teaching text writing in the English Education Department of Bosowa University in the third semester.

Rationale

The YouTube video also helped students develop their writing skills by stimulating students through regular visual elements, such as: (1) using the right words (choice of words) in each situation in the purposes and functions of different; (2) the story is well organized and clear to organize thought, argument, and logic well; (3) the speakers were fluent in the relevant language structures; (4) applying correct grammatical sentences to chronological events; (5) speakers produced correct word spelling and punctuation. It gave him imagination for video content that related to the materials. Students are watching the video while paying attention to the scene and know what the video contained.

Therefore, they can watch it and hear the language of video so that they can learn and then write down based on what they saw and heard about the video in the newspaper. This chapter explained, research design of the place of the research, the time of the research, population and sample, data collection technique and technique to analyze data.

Research Variable and Operational Definition

The use of video was one of the instructional media in the teaching and learning process to capture students' attention and convey information. Writing skills are productive skills in speaking, writing simple sentences, messages and announcements and writing text in the forms of narrative, procedural and descriptive, and writing simple messages and personal letters. It can also tell students how to do or make something and how to operate something.

Then the author asked the students to write down their own ideas based on the material. The author showed the video on how to make a cheese sandwich to students and they have to watch carefully to prepare before the teacher will ask them to write down the steps to make a sandwich.

Technique of Analyzing Data

The grammar segment was the segment in measuring students' ability to write essays that dealt with students' ability to use grammatical form. Vocabulary is a segment that should be measured by students' ability to use or choose the appropriate words to make a good paragraph. This segment will analyze students' ability to use the graphic convention of the language in writing, for example, using punctuation, capitalization and handwriting.

The form segment is to measure the students' ability in the organization of a piece of writing, for example in procedural text, are there purpose, materials and steps. And in this research, the researcher used four segments in the assessment of the students' writing ability; they were Grammar, Vocabulary, Organization and Mechanics. And to assess the students' work in writing procedural text, the research used the scale system to measure the writing test.

The research findings include the description of the result of the data collected by the test.

Findings

The table shows that the total score for all students based on the pre-test was 1,395. Based on Table 2 above in the post-test, all students were classified as very good. The table above shows that the classification of the students based on the retesting experimental class is 1,788.

Based on this result, we can conclude that the writing skill of the students in the pre-test was good. Based on the above table 4, it can be seen that all the students got a very good classification. Thus, it can be concluded that the writing skill of the students in the English Education Department in the third semester of Bosowa University has improved.

After calculating the students' posttest score as the final result in the independent sample formula, the writer found that the pretest value was 69.75 and the posttest value was 89.4.

Discussions

In other words, the data indicated that the students' performance in teaching the writing procedure using English video on YouTube could make a significantly greater contribution to the students' writing performance. Thus, the application of English video on YouTube in writing materials could improve students' skills. Like other audiovisual media, videos emphasize the importance of the subject matter rather than the process development of the material.

Video availability, it is the teacher's job to monitor the availability of videos, because some videos are only available for a certain period of time, and the teacher must pay attention to the date of the video to ensure that the data in the video is not out of date. After calculating the students' posttest scores as the final score, the writer found that the pretest value was 69.75 and the posttest value was 89.4. After calculating the student's posttest score as the final score into the independent sample t-test formula, the writer found that the t-test value was 12.8 and the t-table value was 2.086.

In other words, the data indicated that students' performance in teaching writing procedure text through the use of English video on YouTube could make a significantly greater contribution to students' writing.

The researcher expects the teacher and teacher candidate to be able to carry out action research in the classroom on their own, so there will be many techniques and strategies used in teaching. Cartoon as a teaching medium in writing descriptive text in seventh grade students Us SMPN 35 Makassar.
