Background
These skills are presented as integrated as possible, but the emphasis is on reading skills. Other elements of language such as vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and spelling can be taught to support the development of these four language skills, not because mastery of the elements of language itself and reading comprehension skills play an important role in the development of reading skills. The result of the students' reading and comprehension test during the initial test is very poor. According to Admin, the average reading speed of English as a foreign language students is 120-150 words per minute before the exercise, while the comprehension ability only reaches 70% to 80%. The actual situation in this field, according to the number of English teachers who complained about their poor ability to read and understand English text. The number of four hours per week is not sufficient for students to develop effective reading skills by mastering the four skills in a limited time, for which students must be equipped with techniques for reading texts of various described topics.
Based on the above description, a serious treatment is needed, therefore the authors conduct research on "the study of the correlation between the reading habit and the achievements of the second grade students of SMPN 8 Makassar" Considering that the time allocation of these subjects is very limited, so students can become effective and efficient readers.
Research Question
So, in this the researcher wants to know if this theory will be suitable for the second degree students of SMPN 8 Makassar in the academic year of 2018/2019.
Objective of the Research
Theoretically, the researcher hopes that the result of this writing can support the people to use media as an alternative way to learn to read. This investigation will practically prove to other people, especially the teacher and the students that reading performance is related to our reading ability. It can therefore be chosen as one of the methods that can help them improve their reading ability.
Scope of the Research
In this chapter, the researcher discusses about previous related theories, which consists of two parts, namely some the correlation study between reading habits and students' achievement of second grade of SMPN 8 Makassar.
Previous Related Findings
From the above explanation, reading habit can be concluded as a regular tendency towards an attitude or behavior that is acquired through frequent repetition in responding to a written message and obtaining information, which requires skills to understand the meaning of the text. Easily accessible reading materials are one of the important factors in developing students' reading habits. Adults should set a good example by reading any book or magazine at home to support students' readiness to read.
From all the above statements it can be concluded that reading habit is a regular tendency of attitude or behavior acquired through frequent repetition of reading done by a person.

 - Goals and Techniques for Teaching Reading

In terms of acquiring these reading habits; they have to practice these habits. Weber & Roeber (2012) give the definition of Reading is the process of constructing meaning through the dynamic interaction between:. Based on the definition above, the author concludes that the definition of reading is an interactive process of getting information and ideas from the author with the writing text.
Reading aloud is a type of reading where the reader verbalizes each word in the text. The purpose of reading aloud is to improve the student's ability to pronounce words, emphasize words, and have good intonation for each sentence in a passage. The purpose of individual reading is to check pronunciation. Individual reading promotes a student's ability to read, and in addition, individual reading helps a teacher identify which of her students are struggling with reading.
The speed reading should run the lace comprehension. however, the role of reading speed depends on the type of reading material. Bowen says that to achieve this goal, instructor focuses on the reading process rather than on its product. They develop students' awareness of reading strategies by asking students to think and talk about how they read in their native language.
They allow students to practice the full repertoire of reading strategies using authentic reading tasks. They encourage students to read to learn and have an authentic reading purpose by giving students some choice of reading material.
Student Achievement
Where the writer sends his idea in the writer's symbols and then the reader catches the idea. A reader understands by actively internally constructing meaning from interacting with the material they are reading. Students are successful when they acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will prepare them for a happy and successful life.
Basic skills in language arts are critical, especially for elementary school students, but are not sufficient. They form a building block, a starting point for the transition to other performance dimensions of a higher order. Students who achieve are willing to live a life where they are satisfied and filled with a sense of well-being.
The knowledge, skills and attitudes required for these dimensions of performance are wide and varied. Beyond the universal dimensions of achievement described above, many elements of achievement vary by student and family. Achievement ID improvement (or . ''growth'') in what students know and are able to do relative to.
Students need to be supported and nurtured in areas where they are struggling, and encouraged to achieve mastery in areas where they are strong. As this discussion of student performance makes clear, the standards for assessing performance also need to be reexamined and broadened.

Research Design
In this chapter, the researcher discussed the research design, variable and operational definition, population and sample, research instrument, data collection procedure and data analysis technique.
Variable and Operational Definition 1. Variable

Instrument of the Research
Procedure of Collecting Data
Questionnaire is a list of questions asked to others who were willing to answer (respondents) as the research request. The list of questions that the student chose one of the choices that their habit of reading was to give by result, check the chosen answer. The researcher Brown in Nurfuah defines testing as a method of measuring a person's ability, knowledge or performance in a given domain.
In this study, the researcher administered the test by reading the following text and answering the question.
Technique of Data Analysis
In determining the students' scores, the researcher determines the score of each statement in the questionnaire. Sugiono said score of questionnaire is used to measure attitude, opinion, people's or groups' perception about social phenomenon.
Finding
Based on the calculation result of the reading habit scale, the total score of the questionnaire test is 1035, the highest score is 42 and the lowest score is 25. a) Data description. From the calculation above, it is thus suggested that reading habits can be classified into the category (rendah). After including the data taken from the reading test, Table 4.14 describes the distribution of student questionnaire test scores (X) and student reading test scores (Y).
From the calculation of the average results above, it turned out that the average grades of the reading habit (34.5) are higher than the average result of the reading test (32.8). By applying the r-person formula in analyzing the correlation between reading habit and student achievement in the second grade students of SMPN 8 Makassar (see appendix 5), it was found that rxy = 0.1795. So the correlation is negative, it means that the habit of reading greatly affects the achievement of students.
Student reading habit score and student achievement description of data collected through questionnaire and test as expository reading and the previous section showed that reading habit was very low influenced by students reading habit. It was supported by the percentage of the frequency of the reading habit of the students' results and achievements of the 10-number test questionnaire and the reading test of 20 reading components. This is because no one student has a stronger habit of reading and student achievement.
Based on the result of mean score analysis, it was found that students score in both reading habits and student performance is moderate. From the result of mean score analysis, it was shown that the mean score of reading habits (34.5) was much higher than the mean score of student achievement (32.8).
Conclusion
Suggestion
Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kebiasaan siswa membaca buku berbahasa Inggris dan kinerja belajar bahasa Inggris mereka. Saya suka membaca buku berbahasa Inggris karena dapat membantu saya berbicara bahasa Inggris dengan baik. Jadi Ah Tim memimpin jalan dan wanita muda itu menggendong bayinya di belakang.
The young woman shouted to the wolves, “Please eat my own son.” Then she put her son on the ground before the wolves and took her nephew with her. Wulan: we will never make the flight on time. Jhon: Not at the speed you're driving. What would the Jhon advise the Wulan to do?
