Judul Skripsi: Effectiveness of Board Competition Method to Improve Students' Vocabulary Mastery (A Pre-Experimental Study on Grade Eight Students of SMP Jaya Negara, Makassar). This thesis aims to find out whether the Board Competition Method is effective in improving students' vocabulary mastery in Grade VIII A of SMP Jaya Negara, in terms of nouns and verbs. The main score of the students before the exam is 40 and it has improved to 54.25 after applying the Board Competition method.

The researcher wants to help students find out the treatment to improve students' vocabulary mastery.
Scope of the Study
First, the research has been arranged by Kusumawati (2017) in her dissertation titled ‘Board Race to Boost Students’. Vocabulary Mastery,” she found that using the Board Race method can encourage students to master vocabulary, so that students can understand the meaning of English words with this method. Another researcher Sariayati (2013) found in her dissertation entitled “The effectiveness of TPR (Total Physical Response) Method in English Vocabulary Mastery of Elementary School Children” that this method was effective in the vocabulary mastery of elementary school children because Total Physical Response The method had a large effect on improving the vocabulary mastery of the students.
The outcomes of the study can be useful in the design of materials for the EFL learners in the Algerian context. The differences from the previous research used used quasi-experimental design and another to improve students' vocabulary mastery, but the technique to collect data is the same as all the previous research. The researcher used the pre-test and post-test to know the vocabulary mastery before and after the treatment by the researcher, and finally the researcher will conclude that vocabulary mastery can affect all the four language skills.

Have the students come and stand behind you at the front of the class at the blackboard. When you ask a question, throw the markers to the other end of the classroom. They are considered to belong more to the grammar of the language than to the vocabulary itself.
Every student has a problem in vocabulary mastery, so this research will examine the effectiveness of the Bordi Race method to improve students' vocabulary mastery. This is why the researcher tries to use the Board Competition method to improve students' vocabulary especially in verbs and nouns. The researcher used the pre-experimental design because there is a relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variable to find the treatment outcome.
Instruments of the Research
The population of this study was the eighth student of SMP Jaya Negara, Makassar in academic year 2019/2020.
Procedure of Data Collection
In this research the researcher took a sample of one class VIII A consisting of 20 students. Before the treatment, the researcher administered a pretest to the students to measure the students' basic vocabulary mastery. The post test was done using the Board Race method used in the class. It is conducted with a multiple choice and fill in the blank test by spending 30 minutes, which is the same as the pretest.

- Hypothesis Testing
The table shows that the category, frequency and percentage of students' vocabulary are different between pre-test and post-test. After applying the Board Race method, the students' scores were improved, that is, the post-test was higher than the pre-test. The result shows that the students' scores in the pre-test were 40% categorized as very poor, while in the post-test there were only 5% of students in very poor categories.
Therefore, it can be summarized that the vocabulary of students in terms of verbs has improved to 26.3%. The table shows that the category, frequency and percentage of students' vocabulary in term verbs are different between the pre-test and the post-test. It was common that the Board Race method was effective in improving students' vocabulary in the term verb.

Based on data above shows that the result of students' pre-test is 32 while students' vocabulary in post-test is 51 after applied Board Race method. Therefore, it can be summarized that students' vocabulary in terms of nouns improved 59.3% from the pre-test to the post-test.

Table 4.6 shows that the category, frequency and percentage of students' vocabulary in noun terms are different between the pre-test and the post-test. After applying the Board Competition method, the students' score had improved where the pre-test was higher than the post-test.
It means that the score and percentage of students in the post-test was better and higher than the pre-test.
Discussion
The table above 4.7 shows that the t-test value was greater in total (5.61>1.729) and in verb terms than the t-table (5.85>1.729). This means that there is a difference between the vocabulary of the students in terms of verb before and after using the Board Race method. The table also shows that the t-test value in noun terms was greater than the t-table (4.37>1.729). It was improved, meaning there is a significant difference between the students' vocabulary in terms of noun before and after Board Race applied. Therefore, you could say that using the Board Race method was effective in improving the vocabulary mastery of students at SMP Jaya Negara, Makassar.
Using the Board Race method may meet their need to remember the vocabulary as students had found repeated vocabulary and searched for unfamiliar words while reading, speaking, writing and listening. Therefore, you could say that the vocabulary of the students increases after applying the Board Race method. It shows that students' vocabulary has improved better in terms of verbs after applying the Board Race method, which has become 26.3%.
This means that the competence of vocabulary in terms of verbs was increased before using the Board Race method. The researcher found, before they applied the treatment, that the students' average scores in the pre-test were classified as poor, while the students' scores in the post-test after the treatments were given were classified as fairly good. This means that the competence students' vocabulary in terms of nouns improves more before using Board Race.
Other supported researchers like Kusumawati (2017) in her thesis titled “Board Competition to Increase Students' Vocabulary Mastery” she found that using the Board Competition method can boost students' vocabulary mastery, in so that in this method students are facilitated in understanding the meaning of words in English. Sara (2017) in her thesis entitled "Improving students' vocabulary through board racing language game", she found that by adopting board racing games, the teacher can create a pleasant atmosphere for students so that they can put their minds at ease and practice the target language effectively. . And the final result shows that the students' vocabulary mastery in terms of the verb score was (5.85>1.729) and the students' vocabulary in the noun term was.
This means that the Board Race method was effective to improve students' vocabulary mastery in terms of nouns and verbs in Class VIII A of SMP Jaya Negara, Makassar.

Students should maximize their ability in learning English and improve their vocabulary through the Board Competition method. The other researcher can look for another media to learn English vocabulary and find out whether it is effective or not. Productive vocabulary mastery and speaking skills for ten MA NW Pancor students in the school year 2011/2012.
