In addition, the teacher interview was also able to answer the researcher's problem statement regarding the strategies the teacher used. The researcher did the research for the fourth time, starting from February 21 to March 4, 2023. The researcher took the English class because it was in line with the university majors.
The researcher conducted interviews with the teacher and students, with the aim of obtaining more information. Documentation is a group of documents, interview transcripts, field notes, and observations received by the researcher. To answer the research questions, the researcher described and examined the data summarized and presented in this study.
The researcher made the classroom observation stated from the beginning of the lesson until the end of the lesson. The researcher asked some questions about the implementation that the researcher did not find during the observation. March 4, 2023, was the last meeting and the last research the researcher did.
General Data
The teacher stopped the warm-up and continued the lesson, in the middle of the lesson being taught. The teacher sometimes asked more vocabulary related to new vocabulary they have acquired and asked the students about the meaning, by doing that the teacher could track the students' vocabulary both in the academic context and in the non-academic context. From the observation, the teacher always showed the Let's Read application for vocabulary enrichment through short story in every meeting of English lesson.
However, one story could be used in two sessions hoping that students would be able to get the vocabulary into their memories over a long period of time.
Data Description
The teacher played Let's Read short story e-book app on the projector screen and students started paying attention to the screen. There were several options that the teacher could apply during the application of Let's Read Application. The students were allowed to open their dictionaries or ask the teacher the meaning.
Although the teacher chose a level for each story the students read, he was also mindful of the students' ability level. The fact that the teacher also focused on the students' abilities was also proof that he only used it as a warm-up. They were asked to have a special notebook to list the vocabulary from the story given by the teacher.
The students could also ask the teacher about the meaning if they did not know. In the third research meeting, the researcher interviewed the teacher to ask several questions related to the strategies the teacher used to help students enrich their vocabulary by reading short stories in the Let's Read Application. The second strategy used by the teacher was an aspect of teaching to help students enrich their vocabulary.
Discussion
The teacher chose a story and gave the students time to write the difficult words. The teacher maximized all the features well from the language option to the short story level. And in this part the teacher chose the middle level among the 5 that were available in the app.
The teacher asked the students to unfold the story and write a new list of words while reading a short story for 20 minutes. Students learned the meaning of the vocabulary from the teacher's explanation while using the Let's Read app. While implementing this application, the teacher asked the students to sort the word according to the classes.80.
All aspects consistent with Harmer's theory were implemented by the teacher when teaching vocabulary to foreign students.81. From the interview result, the researcher concluded that the vocabulary teaching technique the teacher used was a demonstration because the. There were two media that the teacher used during the implementation of the Let's Read application to help students enrich vocabulary using short stories.
Conclusions
The first strategy is word sorting, in this part the teacher expects students to be able to sort new vocabulary according to its group, which will help them learn grammar, in addition to enriching their vocabulary. The teacher pays attention to the aspect of teaching vocabulary, which will allow students to easily enrich their vocabulary by reading a short story from the Let's Read application. The third strategy is to use the demonstration technique, the right and proper technique will help students to add their vocabulary knowledge easily.
The technique the teacher uses is demonstration technique; the demonstration technique used by the teacher during implementation does not directly demonstrate the meaning of the vocabulary. The teacher uses characters in the story to demonstrate the meaning of the new vocabulary. The last strategy is to use projected and audio media in vocabulary learning, following proper technique and paying attention to the aspects of vocabulary learning.
The teacher also uses media as a strategy, the teacher uses projected media and audio media to help students enrich their vocabulary.
