What are the objectives of teaching vocabulary through crosswords to eighth grade students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji. How is the procedure of learning the crossword vocabulary to the eighth grade students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji. How is the evaluation of vocabulary teaching through crosswords to the eighth grade students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji.

To describe the process of teaching vocabulary with the help of a crossword to the eighth grade students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji. To find out the evaluation of vocabulary teaching through crossword in eighth grade students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji.

Based on the above explanation and some previous studies, the researcher plans to conduct a study entitled “The Implementation of Educational Vocabulary through Crossword Puzzles among Grade Eight Students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji in the Academic Year.

Research Questions

The researcher also found some previous studies which were related to this study conducted by Elysa Putri Mahanani, a thesis 2019 by IAIN Jember under the title "The Influence of Crossword Puzzle to Increase Students Vocabulary of XI Social Class at SMAN 4 Jember Academic Year 2018/2019 ”.What is material used to teach vocabulary through crosswords in eighth grade students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji.

Research Objectives

Research Significance

It is expected that the result of this study will provide the researcher with more knowledge and experience when conducting research on the implementation of crossword puzzles in vocabulary education. It is expected that the result of the study will be useful to students of the English department in learning English. This research can be used as a reference or as reading material to gain more knowledge about the implementation of crossword puzzles in vocabulary education.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Previous Research

The result of this research showed that teaching English vocabulary through a crossword game is effective in improving students' vocabulary. The thesis was written by Suci Kurnia Sari, 2016, "Effectiveness of Crossword Puzzle Game for Students' Vocabulary Mastery (Experimental Study in Second Grade SMP Puspita Bangsa Ciputat)". The result of this study showed that the use of crossword puzzle game was effective in students' vocabulary mastery in the second grade of SMP Puspita Bangsa Ciputat.

The result of this research showed that the use of crossword puzzle game is effective in students' vocabulary mastery in the second grade of SMP Puspita Bangsa Ciputat. Description of the Research Object

SMP Negeri 02 Rambipuji was established in 1983, it is located in Jl. Widuri No.1 Pecoro, Rambipuji, Jember. Consistent in providing educational services is one of the keys for this school to be accepted by the people.

Findings

The teacher gave us the question of present tense sentences in the crossword puzzle game. Then the teacher asked the students to put their dictionary on their side before playing the game. Because the teacher explained the present tense material before students started playing the game.

Before activity, the teacher opened the lesson by Salam and asked one of the students to lead the prayer. While waiting for three students, the teacher illustrated vocabulary learning through crossword puzzles. Then the students mentioned some verbs and the teacher asked them to make a sentence using these verbs.

While the students were writing, the teacher explained how to play the crossword puzzle. In addition, the teacher also used oral assessment by asking students to explain their work in the puzzle squares. Moreover, during the last activity, the teacher asked us some questions and asked us to complete the given material.

From the above interviews that the teacher helped the students when they were confused to finish the game. At the end of the teaching-learning process, the teacher asked the questions and asked the students to finish the learned material. Based on the observation in the classroom, the teacher provided the motivation when he went around the class to check the students' work.

The main activity explained the ways to play the crossword to the teacher and then asked them to make and answer the game.

CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGETIONS

Conclusions

Based on the result of qualitative research involving observation techniques, interviews and document review conducted at SMPN 02 Rambipuji on the implementation of vocabulary teaching through crossword puzzles among eighth grade students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji, the conclusions were presented as follows; The objectives of teaching vocabulary through crossword puzzles to eighth grade students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji are as follows: First, it built up students. Second, it gave students an opportunity to master their vocabulary, as if they could practice and repeat the sentence pattern and vocabulary.

Third, it helped students more easily understand and remember the vocabulary in the material they learned. The material in teaching vocabulary through crosswords to eighth grade students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji talked about the first form of the verb. The teacher used a key sentence completion taken from Google and the book "When English Rings a Bell".

It consisted of three steps namely, Pre-activity, the teacher set up the preparation of teaching and explained the material. While activity the teacher told about the crossword that would be used to learn the first form of a verb. The evaluation of the teaching of vocabulary through crosswords to the eighth grade students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji was the teacher assessed the students with formative assessments that gave feedback and correction to the students and asked the students to write down the material learned to trade.

Suggestions

Alhamdulillah, all praises be to Allah, Lord of the world, the most gracious and the most merciful, who blesses and guides the writer until he completes this thesis entitled “The Implementation of Teaching Vocabulary Through Crosswords at the Eighth Grade students of SMPN 02 Rambipuji”.
