Observe therefore that love of God does not begin in the heart from any disinterested admiration of the nature of God. Remember, wherever there is love for God in the soul, it is an argument that God loves that soul.

TRAVAILING FOR SOULS

SERMON NO. 1009

Oh, may God give us this first sign of the trial in the grave ones and twos. If there is no heart desire in the church, and no conversions, where is the trial of the church?

THE ONE THING NEEDFUL

SERMON NO. 1015

The text claims that sitting at the feet of Jesus is the first and only necessity. For the poor in spirit it is not only simple but also wonderful to sit at the feet of Jesus.

PLEADING

SERMON NO. 1018

We pray for a demonstration of the Holy Spirit's power in this church, and to plead successfully in this matter, it is necessary that we should unanimously make the confession of our text, "I am poor and needy." We must realize that we are powerless in this business. On this subject I would remark that it is the custom of faith to use pleas when she prays.

THE THRONE OF GRACE

SERMON NO. 1024

Our text speaks of ONE THRONE: - "The throne of grace." God must be regarded in prayer as our Father; it is the aspect that is dearest to us;. Oh, shame on us if we are unbelieving before the throne of the King of heaven and earth. And, blessed be God, we shall not this morning speak of the throne of ultimate justice.

Forget it; You have not come to the throne of righteousness, otherwise God would reject it if God saw the error in the prayer. But it is not a throne of righteousness, I say again, and here is the hope for our lame, crippled people. Moreover, inasmuch as it is a throne of grace, the faults of the tempter himself will not hinder the success of his prayer.

If it is a throne of grace, then the supplicant's wishes will be interpreted.

THE JOY OF THE LORD, THE STRENGTH OF HIS PEOPLE

SERMON NO. 1027

Sorrow for sin is the joy of the Beautiful House, where the guests are full of the "Joy of God". THERE IS JOY OF DIVINE ORIGIN - "The Joy of God." Starting from God as its source, it will necessarily be of a very elevated character. This is the "joy of the Lord," fellowship with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Another form of "the joy of the Lord" will visit us almost every day in honor of being able to serve him. Again, "the joy of the Lord" within us is always the sign and symbol of strong spiritual life. He who goes into the shadow and loses the joy of the Lord becomes weak at the same time.

Thus the joy of the Lord becomes our strength, for it is an indication of his rise or fall.

SAVING FAITH

SERMON NO. 1162

Yet Jesus did not say to her: "Your love has saved you." Love is a golden apple from the tree of which faith is the root, and the Savior took care not to ascribe to the fruit that belongs only to the root. In the case of the blind man to whom my second text refers — this man was conspicuous for his seriousness; he cried out and cried aloud: Son of David, have mercy on me. He was conspicuous for his disinterestedness, for those who would have silenced him rebuked him in vain; he cried so much more,. Stretched out, it grasps the salvation of Christ, and so we are saved by faith.

In the cases of the repentant woman and the blind beggar, their faith was established in Jesus alone. If your faith is never tested, it is not born of the race of the church-militant. There is something very beautiful in the golden silence of the woman, which was richer than her silver speech would have been.

Of the two I think I find more eloquence in the tears that flow, and unbraided hair that wipes the Saviour's feet, than in the cry, "Son of David, have mercy on me." Yet both forms of expression were equally good, silence best in the woman with her tears, and speech best in the man with his.

AN EARNEST WARNING ABOUT LUKEWARMNESS

SERMON NO. 1185

They were content to have all things done decently and in order, but force and zeal they considered vulgar. There are certain amusements that a Christian must of course give up, but we'd rather walk the line, because why should we be miserable. We must not be so greedy that we are called greedy, but we will give as little as.

If, moreover, we have become rather dull of eye, and no longer look up to God and see His face, and have no clear vision of the glory to come. It is a privilege to be desired, but beware: the man so honored occupies a position of great delicacy. He is very jealous of those he has chosen to lean on his bosom and be his trusted friends.

Very sad, but sometimes that rod does not fall on that part of the church that does injustice.

SERMON NO. 1191

First, here is the FACT - "Christ died for the ungodly." A more startling and at the same time gratifying truth has never been heard by the human ear. But the crux of the text comes in here, that "Christ died for the ungodly"; not for the righteous, not for the reverent and godly, but for the ungodly. I don't understand how you could write "Christ died for the good." For what good purpose.

Yes, say and let earth and heaven resound, Christ died for the unrighteous. If Christ died for the ungodly, this fact leaves the unfaithful no excuse unless they come to him and believe in him for salvation. If you have no good feelings, thoughts, hopes, and emotions, you are ungodly and "Christ died for the ungodly." Believe in him and you will be saved from that infidelity.

CHRIST DIED FOR THE UNHOLY” is the best message that even angels could bring to people.

CHRIST THE END OF THE LAW

SERMON NO. 1325

This is the purpose of the law: it empties so that grace can fill, and wounds that grace can heal. If anyone stopped before him, they missed the intent and design of the law. Let us then admire here that the Lord Jesus Christ is the end of the law as far as punishment is concerned.

And now, thirdly, he is the end of the law in the sense that he is its termination. Ah then, Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to you, and so are you. He is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes, and therefore to the poor harlot who believes, to the drunkard who has been standing there for years.

He is the end of the law to righteousness for everyone who believes, whether he is of Little Faith or Big Heart.

PRAYER PERFUMED WITH PRAISE

SERMON NO. 1469

What if we are greatly afflicted, but it is by the Lord's mercy that we are not consumed. Yes, many of the mercies that you possess today and that you rejoice in are answers to prayer. We are not so bad as to make our songs dependent on the weather or on the fullness of the olive press and wine fat.

If we do not have the fruit of the field, let us at least give him the fruit of our lips. Prayer is the rustling of the wings of angels who bring us blessings. I do not mean in the case of the sinner's prayer when he seeks mercy, but in the ordinary prayers of the pious.

He who has lost the light of God's countenance has also lost much of the prevalence of his prayers.

CONSTANT, INSTANT, EXPECTANT

SERMON NO. 1480

May the Holy Spirit work in you this comprehensive zeal, this energy of the whole man. I answer first, let us study very carefully the value of the mercy which we seek at the hand of God. Praise, however, is the most important characteristic of the future state, just as prayer is a characteristic of the present.

Christian, and the unity, life and spirituality of the church are best seen in prayer. Why, beloved, the promise of salvation is given to him who calls on the name of God. Continue in prayer because the continuity of our moment in prayer is proof of the reality of our commitment.

Continue immediately in prayer, it will be the proof whether your prayer is a lamp of God or a light that dies of your own kindling.

CHEER UP, MY COMRADES!

SERMON NO. 1513

And, brethren, you have no reason to envy, though you may admire to your heart's content all who are diligent and successful in the service of Christ. Let me remind you of a law in the Kingdom of Heaven with which you are all familiar - "He who receives a prophet in a prophet's name shall receive a prophet's reward." Truly, it is an excellent deal to be the servant of the Lord. A man may preach admirably, and he may work miracles in the church, and yet not himself be a partaker of the saving grace.

They see how sweetly you submit to the divine will, how patiently you endure painful operations, how the Lord gives you songs in the night. I cannot serve God,” if you cannot teach in school or preach from the pulpit, if you cannot sit on a committee or speak on a platform: as if these are the only acts of service you can do. Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father through Him.' Let therefore the stream of your common life as it flows forth, obscure, unnoticed, be holy and.

Was it not in the garden of Gethsemane, when he was bowed down in sorrow?
