INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION

Background

According to some of the benefits obtained, the use of technology is said to increase learning outcomes and student motivation. Research on mobile learning has been conducted worldwide, but only a few studies have addressed the use of QR codes in education8. QR Code is one of the programs that can be used in teaching with an android or smartphone.

QR codes in education results of the study revealed that students were eager and motivated to use QR codes9. Current studies show increasing acceptance of the use of mobile technologies in teaching and learning. 10. Regarding the background of the above study, previous researchers generally research QR code in education.

Research Questions

The students of SMK DDI Parepare are having trouble learning English and the teacher used a quick response (QR) code as a solution. A researcher interested in conducting a research titled “Teacher and Learner Perceptions of Using a Quick Response (QR) Code Program in Teaching and Learning English as a Foreign Language.

Objective of the Research

Significant of the Research

It is one of the alternative methods for students to teach by using a mobile device in the EFL classroom. This research is also useful for teachers or lecturers. With this study, teachers will know students' perception towards the QR code program used in the EFL classrooms. Students are more enjoyable and comfortable in learning and performing their tasks related to the QR Code program used through mobile device in EFL classroom.

The result of the study will be to increase their interest and knowledge in learning English when using this program. For those interested in this study; will be information on how to use the QR Code program in teaching and learning. For other researchers, it will be a reference for the educational field, especially the use of this method in teaching and learning.

The QR code can be integrated with a smartphone, which can be a very effective teaching aid. To examine the use of QR code in the classroom to improve motivation, communication, collaboration and critical thinking. 2017.

The research into QR codes in education can be placed in the context of mobile learning. A QR code consists of black modules (square dots) arranged in a square grid on a white background, which can be read by an imaging device (such as a camera).23. In this sense, QR codes act as a valuable tool for working paperless in the classroom.

Below are details on how QR codes can be used to teach reading and listening. QR codes are accompanied by several questions to help students find what to look for on web pages.

Conceptual Framework

  • Research Design
    • Research Paradigm
    • Subject of the Research
    • Time and Location of the Research
    • Data Collection Technique
    • Data Analysis Technique

In determining the conceptual framework, the researcher thinks based on the Quick Response (QR) Code program used in the teaching process, especially in English as a foreign language, SMKS DDI introduces the QR Code program in school and all teachers apply it when teaching in the classroom. In this chapter, the researcher presents some points related to this study including the research design, the topic of the study, the time and location of the study, the technique of data collection and the technique of data analysis. Sugiyono stated that research method is the scientific method, the scientific way of obtaining the data for the purpose and usefulness of something.54 To obtain the data, the researcher used two data collection techniques: observation and interview.

In this observation, the first subject of the observation was teacher activities in the class when the teachers used the QR Code program in teaching EFL. In this study, the researcher observed the teaching and learning process when teachers and students used the QR Code program in the EFL classroom. In this case, the determination of the sample, the researchers first choose the twelfth grade teacher, because the researcher feels incomplete of the data provided, the researchers look for other people who are seen as more knowledgeable and can supplement the data provided by the principal. In this case all English teachers and all students' class representatives.

In this research, the researcher analyzed the collected data using several steps of data reduction, data display and data completion/verification. Data reduction was done during the research activities if the data were important did not support the data needed by the researcher. When the data has been analyzed, the researcher began to describe the findings and the data presented descriptively.

The description that the researcher made based on the data collected with the literature review. After the process of collecting and analyzing the data, the researcher tried to find out and get the conclusion or verification from the result based on the data taken by the researcher from the field. The data sources are taken from the conclusion of teacher's way of using QR code program in teaching and learning of EFL Classroom.

To find out the result of the research, the researcher interviews four teachers and four students, it is also seen from the observation made by the writers from the first meeting to the end.

Findings

  • Teachers Perception in Using QR Code Program in Teaching and Learning OF EFL Classroom
  • Students’ Perception using QR Code Program in Learning of EFL Classroom

According to the interview data, the QR Code program does not take much time in the task presentations. And for essays, it's usually easier because the exact answer essay model is different, so there's usually no need to include an answer key, then the teacher makes a code." The QR code in doing the assessment is very easy for teachers to work on to assess students, and the teacher's job is to direct, supervise and guide students in its use so that it can support student achievement.

In my opinion, it is easy because the material is scanned directly through the mobile phone, then we can find the material we need to study...”. In my opinion, it is easier to access subjects because we only scan and then the material to be studied appears without having to search again.”. I think it's easier because we just scan the code and then the material appears without typing a long link.

Based on the interview data, the QR code program can be used as a new motivation for students in learning. Very motivated because it is very simple and makes it easy for us, and the material model is interesting....”. We can open and study all the material, and then the material is also interesting, there are videos, photos and others....".

Meanwhile, printed books are usually a bit difficult because we are not directly on the material that the teacher will explain…”. Using a QR code makes it easier to immediately find the material we want to study, whereas with a printed book it is usually difficult to find the material. If using a QR code is easier, we can immediately find the material to study, while using a printed book is usually more difficult because the book is usually thick and it is usually difficult to find the material we are studying.”

In my opinion, it is easier to use a QR code to perform a task because it is easier to perform and finish it on a mobile phone…”.

Discussion

  • Teachers’ perception in using QR Code program in teaching of EFL
  • Students Perception in using QR Code program in Learning a. Simplicity

Taking time is one of the results of using the QR code program in EFL learning. The QR code program used in teaching, assigning assignments and giving tests to students does not take much time. Presentations of material using QR code in implement make it easier for teacher in teaching.

Through the QR Code program, it makes it easier for teachers to provide students with evaluation results. The use of QR code is better because it provided the best model materials such as videos, images, text. QR Code program in the present material, tasks and assessments saves time in teaching.

Teachers' perception of the QR code program is the convenience of accessing the device included in this research. Referring to the found data analysis of the interview results, the QR code program in learning based on the perception of students is simple. This proved that the QR Code program can make students active and focused on EFL learning in the classroom.

In this research, it was found that the curiosity and challenge students felt while using QR code in EFL learning. In addition, the use of the QR code program in the assessment of learning outcomes can create an active learning environment and great fun.70. Based on the results of the data, they found that by using the QR code in the classroom, the students became more responsible for the tasks given by the teacher.

This proves that the impact of using QR code makes students focus their attention on learning.

Conclusions

For students' perception, the researcher found that these are students: QR code means simplicity in using this program and quick in obtaining material information. Because this program is so simple, students focus more on learning foreign languages in English in the classroom. Finally, this study includes many theories, so the author can conclude that teachers' and students' perceptions of using the QR Code program are similar to the three elements; the views, knowledge and action.

Where here, according to the respondent's opinion, that the use of this quick answer coding program makes it easier in the learning process of English in the class, from a knowledge perspective, that when they are introduced to this program, they really understand and believe that this program is very easy for teachers and students. The last is action; respondents, when using it in class, do not experience difficulties and feel comfortable using it.
