First, this research is arranged by Fadhilah Santri titled "Effectiveness of Memrise Application to Improve Students' Vocabulary Mastery in Second Class of MA DDI Kanang". The previous study aimed to determine students' perceptions of using the Memrise application in vocabulary learning, while the current research aims to find out the effectiveness of using the Memrise application to improve students' pronunciation. The third, was conducted by Putri Annisa Zulhatiar titled "Effect of Using Memrise App as Digital Media Skill for Students".

For the difference, the previous study aimed to improve students' understanding and knowledge through the use of Memrise application, while the current research aims to find out the effectiveness of using Memrise application to improve students' pronunciation. The fourth was conducted by Nirwana entitled "The Use Memrise Application to Improve Students' Listening Skills". The fifth was conducted by Dela Triana titled "The Effectiveness of Using Memrise Application Toward the Students' Phrasal Verbs Mastering of the First Grade at SMAN 1 Gondang Tulungagung".

This research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using the Memrise application on students' phrasal verb mastery. The two studies also examined the effectiveness of using the Memrise application for students to learn English.

During the second meeting, the researcher explained the learning mechanism that would be performed using the Memrise application as the learning medium. Students were then asked to read the words displayed by the researcher according to the pronunciation they had learned in the Memrise application. Thus, the researcher took twenty items that were declared valid as pre-test assessment instruments in the experimental class and the control class.

Thus, the researcher took 20 items that were declared valid as post-test assessment instruments in the experimental and control classes. In the experimental class, the researcher used the Memrise application, which contained material related to text narration. In the second session, the researcher conducted the first treatment using the Memrise application as a pronunciation learning medium.

The researcher asked students to open one of the materials in the Memrise application, namely 'Last Vacation'. Second, the researcher found that using the Memrise application in learning can increase students' interest in learning pronunciation.

Research Design

After the treatment, the experimental and treatment groups will perform a post-test to determine the effectiveness of using the Memrise application in improving the students' pronunciation. O1 : pretest of the experimental group O2 : posttest of the experimental group O3 : pretest of the control group O4 : posttest of the control group X : treatment.

Research Setting

According to Cohen et al., the quasi-experimental design used in educational research can be present as follows:32. In the third meeting, the schedule was the same as in the second meeting, the researcher also used the Memrise application as teaching media. The researcher selected the cases included in the sample based on the teacher's assessment of the skill mastered.

In this research, the researcher used IBM SPSS version 25 to calculate the validity of the data. In this research, the researcher used 28 grade VIII C students to test the content validity of the pre-test and post-test. Based on the results of the validity analysis, the researcher can use a valid item test as a post-test instrument.

Therefore, the researcher chose to apply the treatment using Memrise application as a teaching media to improve students' pronunciation. Students are not treated using the Memrise app as in the experimental classroom.

Research Variables and Operational Definition

According to Creswell, the independent variable is an attribute or characteristic that influences the results of the dependent variable, and the dependent variable is an attribute or characteristic that is influenced by the independent variable.37 The independent variable in this study is Memrise Application, while the dependent variable is students'.

Technique and Instrument of Data Collection

The researcher used documentation for the object study, such as student name lists, voice recordings, photographs, and students' pre- and post-test scores. In this study, the researcher used the SPSS 25 version to measure the item reliability of the test. In this chapter, the researcher aims to investigate the effectiveness of using the Memrise application for learning pronunciation by conducting a pre- and post-test on students of class VIII of MT's Ma'arif Al-Ishlah Bungkal.

The researcher and the students reviewed the material that we studied together at the previous meeting. The students were asked to study the material 'Last Vacation' in the Memrise application at a certain time. The assessment took place according to the rubric of the researcher's assessment.

The students in the control class also took the same pretest as the experimental class. The posttest in the control class is the same as the posttest in the experimental class.

Validity and Reliability

Technique of Data Analysis

In the Explore window, there is a Dependent List column, move the variable you want to test to that column. e. Click Plots in the Explore window and check the Normality plot with tests. f.. Click Continue and then click OK. Enter the data in the Variable View and Data View Fill it carefully to get accurate results.

In the Factor column, enter the variable that differentiates the groups. f.. Click Options, then check Homogeneity of variance test g. To analyze the data, the researcher used an independent sample t-test using SPSS version 25 for Windows. The independent sample t-test was a test used to test the comparison of the means of two independent groups of samples.50.

49 Nuryadi et al., Dasar-Dasar Statistik Penelitian, 1st ed. 2) Next, open the Variable View data editor page and then edit the data. There is no significant difference in students' pronunciation between those who were taught in the Memrise application and those who were not taught in the Memrise application.

Statistical Description

The researcher also gave the opportunity for the students to ask questions if there was material they did not understand. The pre-test in the form of a pronunciation test included a collection of words and sentences. The test is assessed according to the pronunciation assessment rubric prepared by the researcher.

First, the researcher provides the lesson according to the material in the student's text, in chapter 4 for the recount text. All students took a test to measure their pronunciation ability by reading the list of words and sentences provided by the researcher. In the second meeting, the researcher applied the conventional teaching that depended on the material 'When I was a child' in chapter 4 in the students' texts.

The researcher explained the learning material starting from the definition, text structure and linguistic elements. The researcher and the students reviewed the material that had been studied together in the previous meeting.

Inferential Statistics

From the table above it can be seen that the scores achieved by students in pre-test varied. Based on the results of the normality test, it is known that the p-value in experimental class was higher than α (0.085>0.05), so it can be concluded that the data of experimental class was normal. Then, table above also showed that the p-value in control class was higher than α (0.200>0.05), it means that the data of control class was normal.

Homogeneity is the similarity of variance between groups to be compared, so that the researcher will be dealing with groups in the same condition from the start. Bahak Udin, if ttest > ttable it means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Whereas, if ttest < ttable it means that the null hypothesis (H0) is accepted and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is rejected.55.

Therefore, it means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in students' pronunciation ability between students taught with Memrise and those taught by themselves.

Discussion

After the treatment using the Memrise application, the students' scores on the post-test increased from before. This shows that using the Memrise application can improve students' pronunciation skills as Emma said that the Memrise application demonstrates pronunciation for students.56 The Memrise application provides features that support pronunciation learning, such as audio and video performance by native speakers. As Fadilah said, the Memrise application helps teachers teach in a more interesting way, due to the use of flash cards and memory techniques.57 This is proven by the students' responses when using the Memrise application in the classroom, the students seemed enthusiastic and serious.

In this research, it was also found that using the Memrise application as a media for learning pronunciation was very effective. This application is designed so that beginner, intermediate and even advanced level students can use it.59 In the experimental class, students did not experience any problems accessing the Memrise application. In the experimental class, the use of this application is also not required individually, students who do not carry mobile phones can join with other friends and learn pronunciation together.

Memrise has many features that students can use.60 In the experimental class, students admitted that using the Memrise application was quite fun. Finally, based on the discussion above, the researcher concluded that the use of Memrise application was effective in improving the pronunciation skills of Grade VIII students at MTs Ma'arif Al-Ishlah Bungkal and increasing students' motivation to learn English.

Conclusion

Recommendation

But learning media can be improved again to make the learning process easier for teachers and students. For the readers, we hope that they will find this research useful and use it as a reference or resource for the development of effective technological learning media that are used to improve students' pronunciation in the classroom.
