Objective of the Research

Significance of the Research

The findings of this research can hopefully be used to help students, especially the students of MAS Al – Iman Ponorogo, to overcome their difficulties in writing English. The researcher hopes to make a contribution to readers, especially students and teacher of MAS Al – Iman Ponorogo himself to be input in the practice and learning process, especially to the students' problems in writing English at second grade in MAS To know Al – Iman Ponorogo.

The Scope of the Research

Teaching and Learning English as a Foreign Language

In Indonesia, English is a foreign language that is not used for daily communication, but in formal situations, conferences or even business activities involving countries in the world. Therefore, Indonesian learners need at least a stimulus to support the use of a foreign language in their environment.

Writing

Teaching method and environment are the first factors that affect students' writing difficulties. It can be concluded that there are three solutions to writing problems that students face.

Analytical Exposition Text

Analytical Expository Text Writing Ability of Students in the English Department of Universitas Negeri Padaing. The general text structures of an analytical presentation consist of a thesis, an argument, and a recapitulation or conclusion. Meanwhile, students need to know their ability to write analytical presentation text category.

The result of this research will be able to inform lecturers about students' difficulties in writing analytical exposition text.

Theoretical Famework

Urquhart and Mclver state that writing is a recursive process, meaning students must revise throughout the process. It means that writing is a complex process and it seems reasonable to expect that writing teaching is also complex. In line with the opinion of Kosasih, who states that exposition texts consist of paragraphs that describe certain knowledge or information.45 The text describes or explains a thing or object as clearly as possible.

Based on the above description, the writer concludes that exposition text is a text or essay that describes knowledge or information that contains facts that can clarify the information.

Research Method

In accordance with the issue, the researcher believes that descriptive qualitative research is the most appropriate research method that the researcher will implement. The purpose of descriptive qualitative research is the precise description of individual studies in everyday terms, events experienced by individuals or groups of people. This research produced descriptive information in the form of written words and the nature of the individual could be analyzed.

Gay found that descriptive research involves collecting data to test hypotheses or answer questions regarding the current status of the subject under study.47 A qualitative study defines and reports on how things are.

Researcher’s Role

The researcher would like to describe, analyze, and find a more credible data source the An Analysis of Students Difficulties in Writing Analytical Exposition Text at Second Grade by MAS Al – Iman Ponorogo.

Research Setting

Participants in this study are XI IPA II students at MAS Al – Iman Ponorogo academic year 2022/2023. Secondary data is obtained from observation and from books or reference documents and photographs that are relevant to this research. In this research the secondary data were books, journals and previous studies dealing with students' difficulties in writing analytical expository text.

In addition, geographical location, organizational structure, status of teachers and students were included as secondary data obtained from documentation.

Data Collection Techniques

The observation technique used to collect data is honest observation, i.e. the researcher makes direct observations clearly on data sources.59 Honest observation carried out in teaching and learning activities in the classroom to understand the role of teachers in the development of observe the learning of English in the classroom. , especially when learning to write texts in English in the learning process, look at the attitudes and reactions of students in learning, class conditions, the culture built by the teacher, and student activities in the class and etc. Through direct observation in the learning process of English in the classroom, researchers are expected to get complete information as required in this study. Documentation is a supplement to using observation and interview methods in qualitative research.60 Documentation is expected to support and strengthen data previously generated by researchers in data collection techniques.

Written documentation in the form of training in administration teachers includes curriculum, learning implementation plans (RPP), data relating to school administration and conditions.

Data Analysis Technique

The curriculum and RPP documents become the main documentation because through this documentation can witness the development of the text of the analytical exhibition, which is done by entering the results of the students' writing that is to support the research. The data collected in this area is summarized, selected articles the main thing (focused on important things) so that they can be analyzed immediately. Researchers select relevant and meaningful data to present by selecting basic data focusing on students' difficulties in writing analytical texts of the subject and what solutions can be applied to overcome the problem of students' writing difficulties in writing analytical exhibition texts at MAS Al-Iman. Ponorogo.

In this study, a general descriptive description was used and relatively thorough about students' problems with writing analytical expository texts and how solutions can be applied in MAS Al - Iman Ponorogo.

Checking Validity of Findings

Conclusions will be drawn from all data collected by researchers and then rechecked with subsequent data until researchers can find data that really fits the problem developed in research to draw final conclusions. Triangulation is the process of corroborating evidence from different individuals (e.g., principal and a student), types of data (e.g., observations and interviews), or data collection methods (e.g., documents and interviews) into descriptions and themes in qualitative research.68. In this part of checking validity, the researcher used one of four types of triangulation, called methodological triangulation.

The method involves interviewing the students and the teacher by asking various questions related to students' difficulties in writing analytical exposition texts, observation of students' attitudes in writing analytical exposition texts during the English learning process and also about school documents, photos during class activities, videos describing class activities, and researcher's field notes to obtain more valid data for this study.

Research Stage

The field activity phase, this phase includes data collection related to the research focus which is about students' difficulties in writing analytical expository text at MAS Al – Iman Ponorogo. Together with several ustad and ustadzah, I founded the al-iman Islamic boarding school in Gandu and Mlarak Ponorogo with a total of 70 students. the basic capital for the establishment of this Islamic boarding school is the education of KH. The total number of students in MAS Al – Iman Ponorogo in the academic year 2022/2023 is 317 female students.

This shows how important infrastructure as support in educational institutions. The information about infrastructure of MAS Al – Iman Ponorogo is attached.75.

Spesific Data

The Factor That Caused Students Difficulties in Writing Analytical Exposition Text at MAS Al – Iman Ponorogo

Grammar arrangement is one of the factors in the difficulty of writing analytical expository text. She said that preparing grammar is the most difficult factor in writing analytical expository text. The condition of the classroom without a fan may be a factor in students' difficulties in writing analytical expository text.94.

Increased vocabulary is indeed one of the important factors so that students do not have difficulty writing analytical expository text. 96. After the correction, students can understand where they still go wrong in writing analytical expository text. From some of the data exposure above, it is proven that the teacher's teaching techniques also affect the students' difficulty in writing analytical expository text.

Based on some of the above data, the researcher concluded that the teaching technique or the character of the teacher also had an influence on the students' difficulties in writing analytical expository text.

Discussion

The Analysis of Student Difficulties in Writing Analytical Exposition Text in MAS Al – Iman Ponorogo

Another factor that becomes a problem for students in writing analytical expository text is grammatical errors and the correct use of grammar. Students also said that the factor in the difficulty in developing ideas here was due to a lack of knowledge about proper vocabulary in writing analytical expository text.108. In cognitive problems, there were several problems faced by the EFL students in writing analytical expository text.

Students had problems writing analytical expository text as they had problems determining the topic and developing ideas in paragraphs.109.

The Alternative Solutions for The Students Difficulties in Writing Analytical Exposition Text

In addition, solving students' difficulties in writing analytical exposition is the factor of difficulty in developing ideas or confusion when they want to start and finish sentences. The teacher's teaching method is one of the factors that causes students difficulty in writing analytical texts, because the lesson is very monotonous and the voice is not very loud, so that in the end the students feel sleepy. The eleventh grade students at MAS Al-Iman Ponorogo had done a lot of practice using grammar so that grammar mistakes do not occur, get used to reading standard languages ​​such as books and news so that students have standard knowledge of the language.

Has no difficulty in gathering vocabulary in writing analytical expository texts, using fun teaching methods so that the students are not bored and inserting some fun games or ice breakers so that the students get excited again.
