Suffolk Nov the 14th 1862 I now sit down to write to you to let you kno that I am well and hope that these few lines will finde you well I told you in my other letter about the sno storm on 7 or last friday Satureday Night it frose very hard Sunday was clear and coald ever cince it has been warm and pleasant: the Woods here are as green as they are in Allegany in the forepart of September all kindes of shrubrey is as green as a leek the rodes are dry and the weather Calm and pleasant this is a very level country with a loos sandy

soil and you may travail miles to finde a stone and you can not finde one big enough to thro at a Bird but you will finde a Considerable Swamp and the water that runs from the [2]

Swamps looks like tar and the water in all the streams is as black as dy there is springs here is clear and prety good water we get water from springs and wells to drink and Cook with there is a great many kindes of timber here that I never saw before and I do not kno the names of but a very few kindes that grows here the is the gum tree Sedar pitch pine Hickry Persimons tree and one in a while a beach there is considerable Fruit here but the apples are as hard as flints or something near it I

have not seen and apple that was fit to eat since I have been here when we first come here we got Plums and nice tame grapes so no more about that we have not been in battle yet but I do not kno how soon we may e the Ward Beoys are all well [3]

I was glad to hear that Francis is such a good beoy and I want him to keep on being good and I will reward him for it I would like to see all of my little ones and all the rest of my friends but we shall have to wate for the war to close I want to hear from you
