Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong Province in China, which is often better known as the region of the Cantonese dialect. The only memories I had were of the hot summers, the busy streets and the arm-length fat rat on the street corner. The location of my high school in old Guangzhou allowed me to witness another side, the opposite of my part, which was old and historic, affected by the city's rapid modernization in the nearby district.

The 'old western house', traditional market and narrow alley, which appeared in 1980s Hong Kong films, can all be found here. It made me aware of the integral importance of Guangzhou, which was always right in front of me. My point of view is not only that of the chic metropolis resulting from rapid economic development, but also of the more hidden or abandoned parts that I found new and explorable.

I've always known that it's common to think of the city center as messy because of the traffic that comes from people arriving from all over China to do business and visit. So the shifts in my perspective, while my location was changing, gave me more curiosity about urban changes on culture and people's lives.

TRANSMUTE LANDSCAPE

Nowadays, I have noticed a new truth in that it is easier to see the city as the real landscape, especially if the person was born in the city from the time after the development of the economy. From the perspective of a tourist, like how I objectively looked at Mexico City, the entire landscape is man-made, even the historical landscape. Not like the traditional landscape, which has a wide grass field, plants, small towns and animals, but rather the high, tall modern buildings in Guangzhou that are the main character of the landscape.

A high demand for these homes was created due to the population growth caused by the growth of the Guangzhou economy. They can be found everywhere: rare places or special corners of the city, the place next to a primary school, even in the center of the city. But it's part of Guangzhou culture, and even a big part of Guangzhou art, these urban villages are everywhere in Guangzhou and that's what holds this city together.

This photo is taken from the center of the city, which is perhaps one of the most "invisible", and typical urban villages gathered with the temporary housing there. Even if the buildings that are removed do not seem like the core culture, they are part of the city's document. 4 The scary police officer next to the highway. stands for the potential energy of the situation.

If a place has traces of human existence, then there is the culture, the energy of the place. The buildings are built by people, the roads are walked by people and people, all of them are the meaning of the energy that becomes the real meaning of the city. Not only the architectural structure of the city or the composition in a single frame of the camera is the attachment to the city. car, dust in the air and people running by is the whole city.

It is regardless of the environment, erecting buildings for the basic essence of life for the people. In the middle of the event that took place, I knew that coincidence is one of the most inseparable features closely associated with me in my future works of art. I am used to keeping the 'residue' as evidence of the process, or even of the further experimental work.

It's hard to say when it can be used, but the unknown timing is part of the process. Another way to work is to apply dye sublimation coatings to the paper unevenly before transferring images in the heat press and then either screen printing or heating multiple layers on top of the prints are ways that I have tried.

COLLAGE

The idea of an actual spin on the Mexico City scene didn't last long. So instead of paper, I used semi-transparent fabric as a layer to recreate the Pass Through piece. Also apparently, layer upon layer of cityscapes have been piled into the Mexico City collage. Each layer of the landscape image resembles one-story buildings stacked on a hill in Mexico City.

There are many cloudy days in Guangzhou, which become the background of the gray buildings in the center of Guangzhou. Everyone's understanding of the color of the city is different, but bringing color into the city is a way to provide other interpretations of the city. By extracting the impression of the city, it is easy to break the rectangular shape of the cold buildings that bring to the city.

Is the color just surface color, or is it the true tone of the city. Although it is the monotone color just like the stereotype from people when they see these city views, it cannot be the factual in the scene. Also, the digitized color of other parts of the image, which is more sharp, crisp, combined with the bright city and the dark sky, gives an unusual sense of the atmosphere.

When people see only one side of the city, the city is stamped on exactly this one meaning. For example, the duotone and tritone in each print limit the connotation of the cityscape. The collapse of the old city is what I want to include in the new city site.

On the other hand, I extract some highlight color from the cityscape, or just break down the color from the cityscape and reconstruct them together so that the tone of the city can be completely changed. The city's discharge does not change, but the change of color can convey other meanings, but not only limited to the feelings of the city. The meaning may be the change of the economy or the development of industrialization or simply the passage of time.

I don't have any special reason to choose the color that corresponds to my aesthetics, my understanding of a part of the cityscape. Sometimes the color may not be the coolest, but the color is most consistent with the corner of the city from my perspective.
