This specimen puzzled us much, on account
of the peculiar origin of thebranches
of themedia from
the arculus,a
conditionnot found
in the allied species or genera.There
are genera, as Planseschna(fig. 2, h, c), in
which
the origin isbelow
the middle,but
these are otherwise quite different; as this charactershows no
evidence ofbeing abnormal
inany way, we can only regard
thewing
as repre- senting anew
species.I consulted
Mr. E. B. Williamson on some
ofthe characters of tliisspecies,
and he was
sokind
as toloan me

fine series ofphoto-
graphs
of variousAeshnine
genera.Using
