FOREWORDS

Higher education is one of the most developed innovative and responsive reference organizations in the development of science and technology.

Adaptation to the development of science and technology takes a very important role. If we do not want to be backed up by technological progress, human resource competencies must also changed. The way the organization works must also adjusted.

Higher education must become an innovative-disruptive motor that can change the mindset, the workings of organizations, productivity, discipline, innovation, progressive, open to change, and aggressive in making breakthroughs. One way is to create a curriculum and learning methods that are flexible and contextual. Higher education must be able to become a channel of thoughts through research and various innovations.

New ways must be developed. The desire of students and lecturers to innovate must be grown. Agenda for change always adjusts the times and equipping students with various skills must be considered so that they are able to survive. The briefing included mastery of data and technology, humanities knowledge, leadership skills, and entrepreneurship. In addition, the world of education and the world of industry must work together to develop the industrial transformation strategy. One of them is to consider the development of the employment sector because industrial transformation will succeed with competent workforce.

Departing from this background, we as academics at the Universitas Negeri Jakarta held an international seminar because we realized the importance of Higher Education as a formal educational institution that is expected to produce competent human resources who are ready to face the growing business and industry along with technological advancements.

To discuss these issues, we facilitate experts, academics, and practitioners to inform scientific ideas related to these issues in the event of an International Conference on Education, Language, and Society (ICELS) with the theme "Reinforcing Education, Language, and Socio-culture through Creating Qualified Human Resources in the Industrial Revolution 4.0" which was held on August 6, 2019 at the Language Education of Postgraduate school, Universitas Negeri Jakarta.

We document all the ideas put forward in this conference in the form of this anthology as the internal publication. Meanwhile, we will publish a complete collection of papers in the International Proceedings at SciTepress

MODEL OF ARABIC SYNTAX TEACHING MATERIALS WITH AN ONLINE GAMES BASED:

AN ETHNOLINGUISTICS APPROACHE

Aceng Rahmat

State University of Jakarta [email protected]

ABSTRACT

This study aims to develop models of Arabic syntax teaching material with Ethnolinguistics Approaches in an online-games based. The method used in the development of this model of teaching materials was the procedural model proposed by Borg & Gall. Procedural model is a descriptive model that describes the flow or the procedural steps to be followed to produce teaching materials. The stages in the procedural model include: (1) research and gathering initial information, (2) planning, (3) development of initial product format, (4) the initial trial, (5) revision of the product, (6) field trials, (7) revision of the product, (8) field test, (9) the revision of the final product, and (10) the dissemination and implementation. The model was tested in Jakarta State University. Test results show that t-observed is 12.23 and the t-table at 0.05 significance level is 1.70. The t-observed is greater than the t-table. This means that there is a significant difference between the learning achievements before and after the use of Arabic language teaching materials with Ethnolinguistics Approaches in an online-games based. In conclusion, these materials can improve student learning outcomes and effective to use in learning the Arabic language with Ethnolinguistics Approaches in an online- games based.

ABSTRACT

Translation process requires the right translation strategy. Students who are not able to choose a good strategy will produce less quality of translation results.

This research explores translation strategies applied by students when translating English narrative texts into Bahasa Indonesia. 25 students of the English language education program who participated in translation course were asked to translate English narrative texts into Bahasa Indonesia. Five articles of the translation results were selected as data to be analyzed. The data showed that literal translation strategies are still dominated. However, most of the texts were translated well. Grammatical errors only occur in noun phrases and adjectives where the grammatical pattern still applied the pattern of Bahasa Indonesia.

ABSTRACT

This paper is based on a study which investigated syntactic deviations occurred in seven novels published in 2000s. The study was aimed at revealing the types of syntactic deviations. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The data were gathered by using descriptive method and qualitative approach. The study results showed that the syntactic deviations made by the authors of the novels took the form of omission, addition, miss-formations, and miss- ordering. The omissions covered the absence of syntactic functions and grammatical words (prepositions and conjunctions). The additions include addition of certain words to the available phrases which caused disorder in the phrasal structure. The miss-formations involved presence of different forms of verb functioning as predicate. The miss-orderings was visible as the cutting of some complete sentences into two incomplete sentences or dependent clauses.

The study results also showed that the syntactical deviations did not fall into the serious ones so that they might not cause the readers‟ misunderstanding of the novels. Many deviations indicate the grammar of casual or daily language.

Rather, the syntactic deviations contribute to the writers‟ creation of stronger expressive and aesthetic language. The deviations also maintain better readability and naturalness of the writers‟ language.

Keywords: syntactic deviations, omission, addition, miss-formations, miss- ordering.

Speech data was taken from two teachers in an academic class who act as the main teacher and accompanying teacher during the learning process. They teach students with autism with different levels of age, different classes, and different types of autism in academic classes that produce unique patterns of communication, especially if it is associated with Javanese culture that binds the identity of the teachers for students with autism. ABSTRACT

Indonesian language textbooks have important functions for teachers and students. For teachers the textbook is the main teaching material in the class.

For students the textbook is an important teaching material for understanding the subject matter delivered by the teacher. With this important function the choice of words contained in the textbook must be in accordance with the student's grade level so that the vocabulary that has been learned can support the understanding of the material at the next level. At the moment there is no grading in the vocabulary in the textbook, specifically the grade in words that have been formed from several affixes or referred to as combined affixed vocabulary. The formation and use of vocabulary is more complex when compared to words that only have prefixes, suffixes, or confixes. The focus of this study will be to discuss combined affixed vocabulary with more than two affixes. The corpus of this study is class VII Indonesian textbooks, class VIII, and class IX. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach and content analysis method. The data used are Class VII Indonesian Language Textbooks, class VIII, and class IX which are textbooks referring to the 2013 Curriculum. The study was conducted in DKI Jakarta, Indonesia. The results showed that there were 12 patterns of words that had more than two affixes, namely [di-(per-(D-kan))], [di-(per-D-i)], [(di-(ber-D)-kan))-lah], [(di-(per-D- kan))-nya], [mem-((per-D)-i)], [mem-(per-D-i)-nya], [mem-(per-(D-kan))], [(pe-(ber-D)-an], [pe-(per-D))-an], [(per-(ber-D)-an)-nya], [ke-(ber-D)-an], and [ke-(ter-D)-an]. Some of them are accompanied by clitics. This study reveals the frequency of the twelve patterns at each level. Based on the frequency, a special gap can be proposed for the pattern of combined affixed vocabulary.

ABSTRACT

Teaching English communicatively is highly required, especially in order to increase speaking skill. However, communicative approach itself is not sufficient if students cannot maximize their learning through cooperative approach. Therefore, in teaching speaking, the lecturer may apply combined techniques from the two approaches. Think-pair-share (TPS) and Role-play (RP) were two tehniques implemented to teach speaking skill at STIBA IEC Jakarta. Based on the previous classroom observation, the students practiced speaking through RP and had to prepare their script through TPS. RP technique was able to run smoothly when the students did implement communicative approach through TPS properly. However, the techniques needed improvement and adaptation to suit the students‟ needs. The action research made use of qualitative method and quantitative method to see the implementation of the techniques and to analyze the students‟ progress. At the end of the research, the results indicated that the students scores improved significantly and they were much better than the previous semester. It can be concluded that RP and TPS are combined techniques that can increase English speaking skill, provided that the techniques are applied properly.
