If you enter your number inside; i'm sure your great grandma betty can find you, call you and give you a cookie recipe, but telemarketers will also call and try to sell you new vinyl siding.
People don't understand that they or anyone anywhere posting information about someone on a website, chat board, newsgroup, etc. is a potential target for spammers to collect and use. For example, I searched for an email address down here on the web using a couple of common search engines. This is a person who thought they didn't put their email address anywhere but with us…
We have absolutely no way to stop spammers from collecting an address on another site and spamming someone. That would be the equivalent of me walking into the post office and saying "give me all the mail that Billy down the street sent Tommy across town, because Billy wants me to stop all of Tommy's mail."
