Concept of Reading Comprehension

  • Nature of Reading Comprehension
  • Process of Reading Comprehension
  • The Assesment of Reading Comprehension

Reading is the name given to a set of actions that are primarily cognitive: lexical processing, spelling and phonology mapping, sentence parsing, conceptual integration, etc. Today we know much more about both than we did ten years ago, but it remains unclear if and how they can be connected to perceptual operations.4 It means that reading is the way of sifting through a collection of lexical items and extracting meaning from them. Reading is a perceptual development, because not only the search for symbols and meaning, but also reading as a lexical process, the gradation between litho and utterance, defining judgment and conceptual assimilation.

Writing is the tool we use to record data, improve memory, and express our feelings and thoughts. Reading comprehension is the process of constructing meaning through contact and participation in written language, oral communication and/or visual input. Three components are involved in understanding: the active understanding process; the understander's capacity, knowledge base and motivation; and the difficulty and aspects of the text being read, listened to or watched.

The process of understanding requires many simultaneous processes: decoding or moving from sounds and letters to meaning;. Based on the above indicator, the preparation process for the reading comprehension test must take into account the completeness of the reading comprehension indicators.

Concept of Predicting Activity and Confirming Activity

  • Purpose of Predicting Activity and Confirming Activity
  • Advantages and Disadvantages of Predicting Activity and

Objectives of Predicting Activity and Confirming Activity (PACA) PACA has some objectives as follows:12 PACA has some objectives as follows:12. This means that using the PACA strategy, students can interpret and understand a reading text by using the advantages described above, namely that students can find initial knowledge, and afterwards students can make predictions based on the initial knowledge provided by the teacher to build by combining prior knowledge. Procedure for Activity Prediction and Activity Confirmation (PACA) The procedure for PACA in reading instruction:15.

The teacher asks a general question relevant to the topic of reading and provides initial details. The teacher divides the students into groups and provides a glossary for phrases related to the topic of reading. Based on the word list, the teacher asks the students to determine the general content of the reading text.

The teacher documents these predictions (on an overhead or the board) and allows the students to clarify which terms have elicited their predictions. New information is provided by the teacher: this can be through photographs, a video, a story or an essay.
