INTRODUCTION

One of the subjects that have an important role in human life and the development of science and technology (IPTEK) is Mathematics. According to Artikasari & Saefudin (2017), one of the important roles given to mathematics at the educational level is being able to organize students to deal with problems, especially problems that involve a lot of mathematics.

According to Mutmainah et al. (2019) able to train to think logically, analytically, systematically, critically, and creatively, if we study mathematics, so that we have the ability to solve a problem in the field of mathematics and outside mathematics. Based on the explanation above, mathematics is a science that has a very important role for human life and the development of science and technology, and mathematics can train logical, analytical, systematic, critical and creative thinking.

Given the importance of the role of learning mathematics, the process of learning activities is very influential on the success to be achieved by students. Being creative and innovative in presenting learning material is one of the abilities that must be possessed by teachers, so it is hoped that students can like and enjoy mathematics as learning (Rahmi, 2015). This is intended to make visualization and understanding of the material easier from the teacher to the students.

(2)

The more advanced technological developments, teachers are required to be able to innovate in implementing learning media that can adapt to the times (Firman & Rahman, 2020).

In Indonesia the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is growing very rapidly. In accordance with technological developments, the use of technology in the world of education is now very much needed in the learning process (Fitri et al., 2021).

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can also facilitate the implementation of learning as desired by PP No. 32 of 2013 article 19 paragraph (1) that learning activities in educational units are held interactively, inspiring, fun, challenging, and motivating students (Yektyastuti & Ikhsan, 2016). Technology can help teachers as learning facilitators to convey material that cannot be done directly (Alfensianita et al., 2022).

One form of very rapid technological progress in Indonesia is the use of smartphones which are familiar to our eyes. Moreover, smartphones have now become a very important need even in the world of education, this has enormous impacts and benefits for human life, thus, teachers play an important role in creating learning media by utilizing smartphone technology to support students in learning activities.

Learning media is anything that can be used to convey messages (learning materials), so that it can stimulate attention, interest, thoughts and feelings of students in learning activities to achieve certain learning goals (Jennah, 2009). The use of instructional media can help students and teachers with limitations in conveying and receiving information, but it also helps with limited learning time. According to Jennah (2009), the benefits of learning media are that they can clarify the presentation of messages and information, increase and direct attention, overcome the limitations of the senses of space and time and provide opportunities for experience. One form of learning media that can be developed by teachers is e-Modules.

Digital media that is capable of being effective and efficient which has audio, images, and video with the aim of being able to help students solve problems with solutions they find themselves is called e-Modules (Fadilah et al., 2021). Using e-Modules can improve students' psychomotor abilities (Fitri et al., 2021). According to (Delita et al., 2022; Fachrunisa et al., 2022; Kuncoro & Arigiyati, 2020), characteristics of e-Modules as follows: (1) Instructional cells (able to teach themselves for students and not depend on other parties); (2) Self Contained (the entire content of the material in one subject being studied is contained in the module for one);

(3) Stand Alone (the module used is not related to other media); (4) Adaptive (the module must be highly adaptive to advances in science and technology); (5) User Friendly (the module should be friendly and easy to use for its users); (6) Consistency (must be the same, balanced, and consistent in the use of spaces, layout settings between one and the other.

Based on some of the opinions presented above, the learning media in the form of e- Modules can overcome the learning problems experienced by students. This is in accordance with the observations found by researchers, namely finding obstacles in learning such as limited learning time, limited media and teaching materials, and there are still many students who do not bring teaching materials in learning activities.

Based on the problems above, one solution that can be done is to develop Android-based e-Modules using Sigil software. According to Fitriyani et al. (2022), modules presented in digital form consisting of writing, images, animated videos, video tutorials, games and competency tests which aim to make students more interactive in learning are called Sigil Software.

Sigilsis an open source Epub (electric publication) software editor which is one of the digital formats which is a standardized format introduced in 2011 by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF). Software that replaces open e-books that have assignments in open book format is called Epub. Epub can be accessed from files of type css, xml, xhtml, html which are combined into one file with the extension .epub (Mutmainah et al., 2019).

According to Hastin (2020), there are several features in the sigil, namely:

1. FullUTF-16 and Epub 2 special support.

2. Multiple reviews: book, code and view preview.

3. What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) in the book view.

(3)

4. Multi-level titles on generator table of contents.

5. Full metadata editor support.

6. Spell check by default and use dictionary configuration.

7. Full regular expression (PCRE) support for search and replace.

8. Supports import of epub and html files, images, and style sheets.

9. Unified API for external html and graphic editors.

10. Epub flightcrew integration for validator compliance epub.

Based on the characteristics of the e-Module above, basically the writing structure, format, characteristics and contents are the same as the printed module. However, there are still differences between print modules and digital modules which can be seen in Table 1.

Based on research that has been conducted by Rima and Hardyanto (2019) who say that digital modules using Sigil software are feasible because they are easy to use, easy to access anytime and anywhere both online and offline, and contain content that is complemented by animation, audio and video so that it can attract the attention of students and is able to help students to study independently.

METHOD

This research was conducted at SMP N 24 Padang which focused on data presentation material with the aim of developing an e-Module based on sigil software for class VII students on data presentation material. This type of research is research and development (R&D).

Research and development methods can be interpreted as a scientific way to research, design, produce and test the validity of the products that have been produced (Sugiyono, 2015). The research model used is the research model proposed by Plomp which consists of 3 stages, namely: preliminary research, prototyping phase, and assessment phase (Plomp & Nieveen, 2013).

Preliminary Research is a stage that emphasizes content validity, this can be seen from the literature study and problem analysis. The Prototyping Phase is the second stage, at this stage focusing on consistency and practicality, then prioritizing practicality and gradually moving towards efficiency. This stage can be seen from the prototype development which was tested and revised based on formative evaluation. The last stage, namely the Assessment Phase, at this stage of development looks at the practicality and effectiveness of products that have been tested before, while the aim is to assess whether the use of e-Modules can be used and tested practically and users are willing to apply them. Based on the description of the research stages proposed by Plomp.

The instruments used in this study were interview guidelines used during the initial investigation, self-evaluation guidelines, and validation sheets by material experts and media

(4)

experts. The material validation sheet contains aspects that will be assessed in terms of content feasibility, presentation feasibility, and language feasibility. The media validation sheet contains aspects in terms of appearance, ease of use, and language feasibility. The level of validity of the developed e-Module is interpreted with several criteria which can be seen in Table 2.

Table 2. e-Module Validation Criteria Percentage (%) Category

0 ≤ 𝑁𝑉 ≤ 20 Invalid

20 ≤ 𝑁𝑉 ≤ 40 Invalid

40 < 𝑁𝑉 ≤ 60 Valid Enough

60 < 𝑁𝑉 ≤ 80 Valid

80 < 𝑁𝑉 ≤ 100 Very Valid RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Preliminary Research Results Data

At this stage, an initial investigation is carried out to determine the needs in the implementation of learning. The initial investigative stage includes syllabus analysis which is carried out to see the suitability of the material being taught with the curriculum used. Analysis of printed books and LKS which aims to see the contents of the book, how it is presented and the suitability of the material. Interview students to find out the obstacles and obstacles experienced by students in learning. This analysis activity was carried out through observation activities at SMP N 24 Padang which at that time was still in the new normal period and learning was carried out using blended learning.

Prototyping Phase Result Data

At this stage the researcher makes a prototype of the module that will be camped development which consists of the front page or cover of the module, introductory page which contains a brief description of the material supplemented by audio and video, KI, KD, GPA, instructions for using the module, and a concept map. In the core section there is an explanation of the material presented in the form of text, audio and video, besides that there are examples of questions and practice questions. In the closing section there is a glossary, answer key, and bibliography.

Before Revision After Revision

Figure 1. Stage 1 Self-Evaluation Results

After the researcher made the prototype, the results of observations during the making of the prototype carried out a self-evaluation of the product that had been made, then it was analyzed and revised by the researcher. The aspects that are assessed in the self-evaluation stage are content feasibility, material presentation, and language feasibility. Self-evaluation has

(5)

been carried out in several stages, namely in the first stage the developed e-Module only contains material in text form, then revisions are carried out by adding explanations of the material using video which aims to make it easier for students to understand the material. Can be seen in Figure 1.

Then the second stage of self-evaluation was carried out, namely correcting mistakes in writing and tidying up writing that looked still not neat. Besides that, audio is also added in each explanation of the material. Can be seen in Figure 2.

Before Revision After Revision

Figure 2. Stage 2 Self-Evaluation Results

After completing the self-evaluation stage, then the expert review stage was carried out which was carried out by 3 experts, with 2 people as material experts, and 1 person as a media expert. This expert validation stage is carried out by providing validation questionnaire sheets to experts to review more deeply and can provide suggestions and improvements to make the e-Module better. Data from the results of this validation assessment are described and analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The following results of the validation questionnaire for e-Modules based on sigil software by material and media experts can be seen in Table 3.

Table 3. e-Module Validation Results

Assessment Aspects Final score Category

Eligibility of Presentation 95% Very Valid Language Eligibility 93.33% Very Valid Display Eligibility 86.67% Very Valid

Ease of Use 86.67% Very Valid

Validation Final Value 90.33% Very Valid

Based on the percentage of the final e-Module validation score, it was found that the sigil software-based e-Module is included in the very valid category and can be tested.

The results of the experts' assessment of the e-Module are in the very proper category, even though the assessment results are in the very feasible category, the e-Module still needs to be revised. Comments and ratings given by the validator in the column listed on the validation questionnaire sheet are corrected according to the direction of the validator.

In Table 4, you can see the parts of the e-module that were revised based on comments and suggestions from each validator.

1. Changing the

position of the author's name from above to below so that the first focus that is seen is the title of the book and class

2. Display videos

with a longer duration and the presentation of the material in the video is clearer and easier for students to understand

3. Fixed the type

and size of the letters used to make it look clearer and neater

The first suggestion given was to change the position of the author's name from above to below so that when the e-Module is opened you can see important information from the e- Module, namely the title of the e-Module and what grade the e-Module is intended for. The second suggestion is to replace videos with a longer duration with animations that are appropriate to the material so that the video explanation is clearer and easier for students to

(7)

understand. The third suggestion is to change the typeface and font size used to make it look clearer and neater so that it is easier to read.

The advantages of this e-Module include that the material is easy for students to understand because it is equipped with audio and video which is definitely in accordance with the discussion of the material. In addition, this e-Module has a very attractive appearance and color so that it can attract students to learn. The questions presented in the e-Module are questions that are in accordance with the examples of questions given in the discussion so that they can encourage students to be able to work independently.

Another advantage of this e-Modul is that it has a feature that can change the font size and type according to what we want, there is a bibliography feature that can be opened automatically and change the shape of the reading display according to what we want. e- Modules can make it easier for students to study anywhere and anytime without having to be connected to a network and are able to help students learn independently.

CONCLUSION

Based on the research and data analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that the e- Module based on sigil software for class VII students in data presentation material is very valid with a percentage gain of 90.34% in a very valid category. Based on the percentages above, this proves that the e-Module based on sigil software is declared valid for use. This e-Module based on sigil software is equipped with brief and complete material descriptions, examples of questions, material summaries, video and audio that are easy to understand, besides that there are also final test questions for the module as an evaluation of students after studying the e- Module, so that it can help students to learn effectively and independently.
