Hooked on Calculus: Crochet Surfaces of Revolution
Hooked on Calculus: Crochet Surfaces of Revolution is a workshop being offered by Dr. Taylor with assistance from Dr. Matson.
The workshop focuses on the art of crochet in relation to surfaces of revolution. After learning the basic crochet stitches, participants will choose a function to rotate about a Cartesian axis and produce a surface of revolution. Using a computer program developed by Dr. Taylor of AU and Dr. Martinez of Ithaca College, a crochet pattern for each participant's unique function will be produced. Using this crochet pattern, each participant will crochet their unique surface of revolution. Calculus II concepts used to create the program will be discussed.
Total time for this workshop and outside work are estimated at 4 hours. Please do not sign up for the workshop if you do not intend to complete it and attend both parts of the workshop as space and materials provided are limited. The workshop takes place Fridays, November 15th and 22nd, 12:20-1:10pm in Myers 228.
