Student's Ability in Pronunciation of English Fricatives through Song (An Experimental Research on Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 4 Sungguminasa), under thesis of Department of English Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Makassar Muhammadiyah University, Supervised by Syamsyarna Nappu and Saint Asriati. This research aimed to find out whether or not the use of song can improve students' ability to pronounce fricatives in English and to find out the factors that influence students' pronunciation of fricatives in English in eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Sungguminasa .
The researcher asked the students to say a list of songs for pre-test and post-test. The result of the analysis showed (1) that the use of songs made the students more relaxed and very useful and happy in learning pronunciation. It can also be noticed. In the pre-test, the average value (X1) was 60.4 and in the post-test (X2) 74.7. 2) factors affecting students in the pronunciation of English fricatives, confidence was 60%. In learning the pronunciation, there are many types of pronunciation, but here the researcher only gives explanations about English fricatives. As we know, English fricatives are consonants produced with a continuous flow of air through the mouth. They consist of 5 consonants /s/ /z/ /v/ /f/ /h/. Based on the observation made by a researcher in SMP Negeri 4 Sungguminasa, students often experience problems with pronunciation when speaking, reading or listening to English fricatives. In conducting this study, the researcher used songs as media to improve the students' ability to pronounce English fricatives.
Based on the description above, the researcher conducted a study under the title "Students' Ability in Pronouncing English Fricatives through Song at the Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 4 Sungguminasa". Whether the use of English song can improve students' pronunciation of English fricatives. Practically, teachers can use this study as a reference to improve students' pronunciation of English fricatives.
The scope of this study is only aimed at the students in pronouncing English fricatives through singing. In this case, the researcher saw how the use of English songs can improve the students' pronunciation, especially in the English Fricatives /s/ /z/ /v/ /f/ /h/.

Ratnasari (2007) in his thesis Song to Improve the Students' Achievement in Pronouncing English words concludes some conclusions which are: (a) The use of songs in the teaching of learning processes has some benefit for the students. The students not only learn how to pronounce the words but also master English vocabulary. (b) Most of the students are interested in learning English by using singing. Timonen analyzed Finnish people's difficulty in pronouncing English fricatives, next to that the researcher analyzed students' difficulty in pronouncing English fricatives.
Swatika also analyzed the students' difficulties in pronouncing English fricatives and analyzed the college students, but the researcher analyzed the high school students. Suryani and Ratnasari analyzed the effect of using song to improve the learner's ability to pronounce English words in addition to using songs to improve the learner's ability to pronounce English fricatives. Teachers can use many methods to improve their students' pronunciation skills, as long as the method is effective, interesting, and enjoyable for the students.
There are several factors that influence students and also decide how students pronounce English Fricatives. While conducting this study, the researcher uses songs as media to improve students' pronunciation achievements.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research design
Population and sample
It was given to the students before using the song, the researcher used the pre-test, and then after the treatment the researcher used the post-test again. The researcher determined whether the students' pronunciation improved or not after the song treatment. The researcher used it in the fourth session to learn about the factors that influence students' pronunciation of English fricatives.
The form of the pre-test was an oral test, the students were told the list of words given by the researcher, and the researcher recorded the students' voice. In the second meeting, the researcher introduced the materials and gave an explanation of what the students have to do in the learning process. The researcher explained about pronunciation, singing and English fricatives. After they listened to the song, the researcher asked the students to find out the word that includes fricatives in English in the lyrics of the song and then discuss it.
In the third and fourth meeting, the students listened to another song entitled "I Have A Dream". The students pronounced the list of words given by the researcher and the researcher recorded the students' voice. Pre-test and post-test score rate percentage Table 4.2 Pre-test score rate percentage.
Factors influencing the students' ability to pronounce English fricatives were self-confidence and difficulties in pronouncing English words. Then the examiner completed the test so that the students could pronounce the word, even if it was not very fluent, but the result was improved by seeing the students score after the examiner reported the post-test. It showed that the use of singing in the treatment given by the researcher can improve the students' pronunciation of English Fricatives because they get pleasure when they try to pronounce a word while singing in class until they get it right can pronounce.
From the above examples, the students can pronounce the word even if it was not very fluent, but it can show that their ability in pronouncing English fricatives was improved by songs used. Based on the result of the data analysis, it has been proven that the ability of the students to pronounce English fricatives is better. The result of the questionnaire shows that the dominant factors influencing the students in pronouncing English fricatives are self-confidence.
It shows that both self-confidence and difficulty in pronouncing English fricatives become factors influencing the students in pronouncing English fricatives. Because the teacher should let students pronounce the word more clearly in class, so that the students have enough time to practice, and the teacher can use singing as a medium, so that the students can learn many words in the song and study more relaxed. Reserach variable
Research instrument
The researcher gave the students negative and positive statements consisting of 15 questions, including students' motivation, students' self-confidence, students' difficulties in pronouncing English words, and difficulties in spelling English words. This scale indicates whether one strongly agrees (SA), agrees (A), undecided (U), disagrees (D), or strongly disagrees (SD) with each statement. If the students answered all the positive statements with completely agree, they received 45 points, and if they answered all the negative statements with completely disagree, they received 30 points.
Procedure of collecting data
The treatment was applied to the experimental group who were taught pronunciation using English songs to improve students' pronunciation of English Fricatives.
Technique of data analysis
After a treatment such as being given a song, they were asked to sing along and say English fricatives based on the lyrics of the song until they could say those words. This means that the teaching of the pronunciation of English fricatives with song is significantly increasing. Thus, the researcher can conclude that the students' ability to pronounce English fricatives through the song is very useful, joyful and more relaxing in learning English.
