A proposal : ‘Neev’ in a village means..
(Goonj’s comprehensive village development plan)
Creating a barter between two new currencies..
Community Labour and growing urban surplus for comprehensive village development..
Addressing basic but often ignored issues like water, sanitation, agriculture, environment, menstrual health,
education to livelihood..
Founded in 1999 Goonj works in parts of 22 states with a strong team of 600 people and thousands of volunteers. Started with 67 units of personal clothing today it deals with over 3000 tons of material every
year. Goonj is repositioning discard of urban household as a development resource for villages.
Constructively reviving and strengthening rural volunteerism, to solve its own problems, digging deep into the age old wisdom and knowledge base of the villages. We initiate over 3000 developmental activities every year, from repairing roads, recharging ponds, building
bamboo bridges to digging wells. It not only brings a significant change in day to day life of millions but the entire model also frees up
meager resources for other hard pressing needs like food or health.
About Goonj. .
NEEV (means Foundation)
Goonj's comprehensive village development initiative..
In our work in thousands of villages across India simple solutions around water stops migration, a bit of sanitation brings a positive impact on health of people, a simple kachcha road increases business and a piece of cloth brings some change in the menstrual health and hygiene of women.
Neev is a comprehensive plan, not about bringing concrete structures and urban amenities, but about holistically and locally addressing the difficult rural problems with the participation of
rural communities, their wisdom and resources.
Instead of donor, beneficiary, everyone is a stakeholder. It is about using the traditional wisdom and community labour as an important input into development work.
NEEV focuses on 7 crucial aspects
*Water *Sanitation *Infrastructure *Health *Education *Environment *Livelihood
Neev will work in village clusters in different parts of India.
With an input of Rs. 5.00 lakh per village (of upto 100 families) & upto Rs. 10.00 lakh for larger villages we will add basic needs material as a reward while village communities will add labour to
achieve in-depth work.
The key inputs into each village will be;
Basic material as reward for each family’s needs.
Community labor as contribution from the communities.
Local wisdom and management of the entire work.
Money for the logistics
Goonj brings together the first three aspects in hundreds of villages in a very effective way and only the 4th component of money has to come from the people and organizations.
