Admission Procedure for Ph.D
i. Notification for admission into Ph.D will be posted on the website of Viswa Mahavidyalaya during the months of November and May every year, indicating the number of pre determined seats in each Department of Viswa Mahavidyalaya along with all relevant information.
ii. Eligible candidates, after carefully going through the instructions, can download and submit the application form only during November and May each year after seeing the notification.
iii. Applications received in November will be processed for January Session of that year and applications received in May will be processed for July session of that year.
iv. Employed candidates / research associates in funded projects shall forward their applications through their employer / Project Supervisor with a No Objection Certificate from the employer / Project Supervisor.
v. The applicant can apply for admission into Ph.D only in the discipline of his / her PG degree (except for provisions in 3.b.iii, 3.c.ii, 3.d.ii) and Guide should be recognized to Guide in that discipline.
vi. NRI applicants will have to attach proof on Indian Citizenship and copy of the passport.
They will have to provide an address of communication in India in addition to their addresses of communication abroad.
vii. Viswa Mahavidyalaya reserves its rights to ask NRI applicants to obtain prior security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the approval of Department of Secondary & Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development Government of India Government of India and to forward their applications through their respective embassies.
viii. The applicant may opt for an approved Guide of Viswa Mahavidyalaya with his / her consent. The applicant may also opt for a Co-Guide with his / her consent in the case of interdisciplinary research.
ix. If the Co-Guide belongs to an academic Institution he / she should possess a Ph.D degree in the relevant field else if he / she is from industry / R&D an equivalent experience may be considered even without a Ph.D degree, with the approval of the Vice Chancellor.
x. For In te r Di sc i pl i n a r y Re se a rc h, Registration shall be granted in the parent discipline of the scholar m e n t i o n i n g t h e se c o n d a r y d i s c i pl i n e .
xi. Viswa Mahavidyalaya reserves its rights to accept or reject an application and the decision of the authorities shall be final in this regard.
xii. Received applications will be screened by the Director of Research and Publications for completeness and then will be scrutinized by a committee in the respective Departments with the Dean of the Faculty as Chairman, Head of the Department as convener and a teaching staff of the Department nominated by the Dean, as member.
xiii. If selected in the initial scrutiny, the applicant (including NRI candidates) will be called to
appear for an entrance test followed by a technical interview in Viswa Mahavidyalaya Campus on the date and time specified by Viswa Mahavidyalaya.
xiv. Applicants qualified in the NET / SLET / GATE / Other National Eligibility Tests and candidates with M.Phil in the concerned subject shall be exempted from writing the entrance test.
xv. If the applicant fails to appear for the written test and interview on the date specified by University, the application shall be deemed to be cancelled.
xvi. The entrance test shall comprise or objective / descriptive type questions to test the research aptitude, analytical ability, general knowledge and expertise in the concerned subject at PG level.
xvii. At the time of interview, the applicant is expected to give a presentation to highlight the broad area of research, with specific research topic, substantiating with detailed literature survey with in-depth discussion on at least one relevant recent research paper/work. The focus of the presentation should be on justifying the new knowledge addition to the existing literature.
xviii. After the entrance test and interview, successful applicants will be shortlisted according to the pre determined number of vacancies in the Departments.
xix. The allocation of the Guide / Co-Guide for a selected scholar shall be decided by the scrutiny / interview committee in a formal manner depending on the number of students under approved Guides, their specializations and the research interest of the scholar as indicated during the interview taking into consideration the option given by the applicant.
xx. The allotment of Guide / Co-Guide shall not be left to the discretion of individual scholars or Guides.
xxi. Viswa Mahavidyalaya reserves its right to assign another Guide / Co-Guide to the candidate, different from the Guide / Co-Guide opted by the scholar if so recommended by scrutiny / interview committee.
xxii. The applicant, the Guide and Co-Guide should not be close relatives and should live in nearby places, to the satisfaction of Viswa Mahavidyalaya, so as to enable frequent academic interactions in person.
xxiii. The result of the entrance examination a n d i n t e r v i e w shall be placed before the Vice Chancellor and on his approval, orders of provisional admission will be sent to the selected candidates.
xxiv. The selected candidates should pay the prescribed fees within 15 days of receipt of the provisional admission orders. If the applicant fails to remit the fees within the stipulated time, the offer of admission shall be deemed to be cancelled.
xxv. Upon realization of the remitted fees, orders confirming the admission into Ph.D, indicating the broad area and tentative topic of research and the number of methodology examinations to appear will be sent to the scholar.
xxvi. The scholar should then immediately report to the Guide and send the joining report in the prescribed format. The research period shall be counted from the date of joining only.
xxvii. The scholar shall regularly pay fees before 31st January (for admissions in January Session), before 31st July (for admissions in July session) every year, till the submission of Thesis based on the fee structure prescribed for them at the time of admission, shall submit progress reports regularly every six months till the submission of Synopsis and shall abide
by the regulations laid by Viswa Mahavidyalaya from time to time.
xxviii. Part Time (Internal-A / Internal-B) scholars need to pay the fees only for the first three years.
xxix. The scholar shall also pay the prescribed fees for Synopsis submission, Thesis submission, extensions, revision and resubmission, Change of Guide / Topic / Category. NRI candidates shall remit all fees in US$.
xxx. All communications from the Guide / Scholar shall be addressed to the Director and all fees shall be paid in favor of The Registrar.
xxxi. The admission is liable to be cancelled if the scholar fails to pay annual fees on time, fails to submit progress reports on time, fails to progress in research to the satisfaction of Guide and Viswa Mahavidyalaya, indulges in unethical practices or fails to follow the Ph.D regulations framed by Viswa Mahavidyalaya from time to time.
