Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University A Brief Report on “Alumni Connect- 2023”
Department of Zoology
The Alumni Cell of the Department of Zoology (DZ), Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, organized an "Alumni Connect" program on April 05, 2023 at 4:30 PM. Prof. V. Elangovan, Head, DZ, presided over the proceedings. On this occasion, 16 alumni from the university's M Sc and PhD programs have participated in the event via Google Meet. Alumni actively participated in this online campaign during this event, contributing ideas on how alumni might help the university as a whole. The program convener, Dr.
Sandhya, with the permission of the Head of the department called upon the meeting and head of the department welcome all the guests. The Head, Prof. V. Elangovan welcomed the professors and pupils and discussed the university's initiatives to reintegrate alumni with their alma mater.
The following is a summary of some of the alumnus' perspectives:
Dr. Dilpreet Kaur, currently working as Assistant Professor at PG College, Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh greeted everyone and shared her thoughts on evaluation strategy to be adopted by the department for improvement in students’ overall performance. She discussed that the cordial environment in the department had led her to pursue her dreams in higher education. She also appreciated the efforts put on by the Department as well as University for conducting regular health, fitness and yoga sessions for students and also for faculties.
Additionally, she offered advice to the fellow participants on how to bridge a balance between their studies and exam stress. She also stressed the importance of improving the department's research facilities. During the meeting, Dr. Brijesh Ranjan, appointed as Assistant Professor in PG College, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh shared his experience on his new joining at the campus. He was glad to meet his supervisor and connect with other teachers of the department. He discussed about improving the Departmental Library and Laboratory facilities for students. He also emphasized on needs of conducting regular scientific meets at the department or University level to provide a platform to connect current students with the alumni. He also showed his interest in contributing in the syllabus enrichment. The students of passed M.Sc Zoology 2019 batches; Mr. Anirudh Tiwari and Ms. Seema also joined the meet. Mr. Anirudh Tiwari who was pursuing PhD from the National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health, Mumbai expressed his thought on various scientific conferences hold in the university on several occasions where he got the opportunity to act as volunteer and present the poster. He also stressed about the needs on actively conducting hand on training programs for enhancing their scientific and communication skills. Another alumni Ms. Seema of M.Sc. Zoology 2019 batch, joined the meet and informed about her role as School teacher. She shared among all that she enjoyed her stay
at the University Girl’s hostel and added about need of increasing the facility of Girls Hostel to attract more girl students of far places who missed opportunities to get education from a Central University because of several insecurities’ thoughts prevailing in the society. She also advocated those books related to various state and national level exams for Jobs should be included in department Library also. Another PhD candidate Mr. Kiran Das (M.Sc., Zoology 2018 batch) pursuing her degree from S.N.P.G. Lucknow was thrilled to join the alumni meet and emphasized the value of developing soft skills in order to succeed in the demanding life of a PhD student. He also revealed his research is in the area of life threating diseases. He informed that in particular he also come to the University to meet teachers. At the end others students also shared their experiences and role of the University in their lives and careers in particular.
Finally, each teacher spoke with the graduates and congratulates them for doing better in life and requested them to actively associate themselves with the Department as Life or Annual member. On the concluding remark, Dr. Sandhya invited Head of the Department to share his views. Afterwards, the head of the Department Prof. V. Elangovan briefed about the alumni role in contributing to development of the Department and University. He provided an update on the department's initiatives and spoke about how new collaborative research projects can be developed with alumni in context with the fresh problems, as well as how the university's initiatives have successfully forged relationships with its alumni. A summary of the many services available to students interested in joining the alumni group was also presented to those people. Lastly at the ceremony's conclusion, Dr. Sandhya, Convener, Alumni Cell, DZ, gave a vote of thanks to the program's participants and teachers for joining the alumni meet.
