Languages play an important part in the means with which different cultures interact with each other and with others. Language is defined as a set of sounds, combination of sounds, and symbols that are used for communication. Languages do not merely differ in the technical sense across linguistic boundaries, but present various concepts vital to the existence of a culture. Every language can represent the role of culture through its own reflection of reality it presents. The versions differ as every nation has to face a different set of problems to arise at their current state. There are different set of values and beliefs attached to each, and they are all equally important, and as far as language is concerned, is supposed to be just as important as it is a reflection of the nations identity. The role of culture in language and its bearings as per its evolution are highly significant and felt every day in each culture.
Despite the existence of millions of languages of various cultures there are few on the board that are relished all over the world and one of them is the English language for communication.
English is the unifying language. It acts both as a national and international link language. The trade and commercial correspondence from one state to another state is mostly conducted in English. In today’s world of science and technology English has become the chief language in the Indian Education system.
All the prestigious school and colleges use English as their medium of instruction. Today, careers in the field of science and technology, business and commerce, require a good knowledge of English.
Most people are born with the physical ability to talk, but we must learn to speak well and communicate effectively. Speaking, listening and our ability to understand verbal and non-verbal cues are the skills by observations other people and modelling our behaviour on what we see and perceive. English is a language that has become standard not because it is widely used by many information and technology industries and recognized as being standard. Page No.104 Figure out your best time to learn.
Get a good bilingual dictionary.
Create an atmosphere in which you want to learn, not because you have to. You’ll learn more when you’re learning because you want to.
Plan to take a test. You’ll find that you work harder when you need to study for something.
Keep yourself motivated by looking back at the textbooks and CDs you used in the past. You’ll be surprised at how easy they seem to you now! Congratulations, your level is improving!
Change the language on your social media or smartphone.
If you get nervous when speaking, take two deep breaths before you say something. You’ll speak better when you feel relaxed.
Debate. Discuss topics in a group. Each person should choose a viewpoint (even if you don’t agree with it) and debate it within the group.
Textbook English is often different from the way we casually speak. To learn casual ‘slang’ watch movies.
It’s not enough to only learn English words. You can teach a parrot English words but that doesn’t mean it can speak English! You still need to have an understanding of grammar.
Keep in mind that it takes longer to improve when our level is high. Usually the fastest progress is made when we are beginners. Don’t think that you’re suddenly not learning anymore, it’s just a less noticeable progress.
Make sure that your English matches the occasion. It’s OK to use slang with friends but not in a business meeting. Decide in which situation it’s appropriate to use the words and phrases you have learned.
Know what works best for you. Think about what methods have been successful for you in the past and stick with them.
Find a comfortable, peaceful place for quiet study. You need somewhere where you can focus 100%.
Keeping in view the above importance of English language in a daily life and for well established professional survival learning English seems to be a must. These are few recommendations that will help you achieve your goal of speaking English fluently and confidently.
