A Seminar on the importance of Open source software was held on 12/02/2013 in the department of CSE.
Mr.Kumaran Mani, CEO and Founder of Tenth Planet Technologies and Tenth Planet Open source Foundation highlighted upon the importance of Open Source Software for better employment.
The seminar also highlighted upon the entrepreneurial opportunities available through Open Source Software.
Around 200 students from second and third year BE(CSE) attended the seminar.

The Second day was handled by Mr.T.Srinivasan, Technical Support Manager, Accel Frontline Ltd., who delivered a lecture on “Virtualization” followed by hands on session on creating a virtual machine. In the afternoon session
“Linux fundamentals” Theory and Practical were handled.
The Valedictory function was presided by the Dean Prof.K.C.Srinivas, who appreciated the efforts of the department and distributed certificates to the participants and resource persons.
The Cloud Computing Workshop was held on 04/03/2013 and 05/03/2013 in the Department of CSE, to create awareness on the latest trends in Cloud computing. The workshop was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor Dr.V.S.Vishnu Potty, who on his speech highlighted upon the importance of learning the new technologies. Mr.Arun Sundaresan, Senior Manager, International Business, Accel Frontline Ltd., on his inaugural speech told the students the latest developments in Cloud Computing.
After the Inauguration of the workshop, the first day of the workshop was handled by Mr.S.Ramamoorthy Asst. Prof. CSE Department who delivered a lecture on the “Introduction to Cloud computing”, which was followed by hands on sessions on “Hosting a Public Cloud”.

SCSVMV Blackberry 10 app development community in association with Blackberry conducted a two day workshop on Blackberry 10 Cascades App Development on 5th & 6th September 2013. The workshop was aimed at initiating students into developing applications for the Blackberry Mobile Devices. The workshop introduced students to the Blackberry 10 Native Software Development Kit and Cascades UI framework. Developer Evangelist from Blackberry Prakash Sainani and Ranbijay Kumar conducted 10 sessions. More than 200 students participated.

The Department of Computer Science and Engg., conducted a one day workshop on Google Application for faculty and students of our University on 22rd & 28th October 2013.
Mr.Hariharan and Mr.Jayanth from Google, Chennai gave a complete knowledge sharing on following topics- Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google Forms, Google Sites. 60 participants including Faculty Members, Technical and Non- Technical staffs attended the workshop and got benefitted through which a paperless environment could be utilized in all Academic Institutions for maintaining, managing and accessing students Attendance / Marks / Academic works / Department work or even the whole university documents could be stored and shared with others, through SMS, Mail Services and also separate websites.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering organized a CCNA certificate Distribution Event on 22nd October 2013. The Event commenced with welcome address by Dr.S.Rajalakshmi, Professor, Department of CSE at 4.30 pm.
The Inaugural address was given by Prof.Dr.G Srinivasu, Registrar, SCSVMV.
Around 45 Students from CCNA Batch III and Batch IV 33 Students completed module III and 12 Students who completed module II received certificates from the Registrar Prof.Dr.G Srinivasu & Dr.S.Rajalakshmi, Professor, CSE. The Event concluded with the Vote of thanks by Mr.R.Vasanth Kumar Mehta, HOD, Department of CSE.
The Event was organized by the CCNA Co-ordinator Mr.K.Sivakumar, Assistant Professor, Department of CSE.
The Workshop focussed on Virtualization and Ubuntu. The participants of the workshop worked on a Virtual Machine and gained experience in Linux commands from the basics and also learnt how to install applications in a Linux Operating System. The students learnt how to use basic networking commands to configure virtual networks in a Linux environment.
The Valedictory function saw the participation of Prof.Dr.S.Rajalakshmi and the Head of the Department, Prof.R.Vasanth Kumar Mehta. At the end of the day, the participants of the workshop learnt about a new Operating System and found that Linux is very user friendly.

A Faculty Development Programme on IBM Rational SEED Training Program was held from 10/12/13 to 13/12/2013 in the department of CSE, to impart training on IBM Rational Rose and Rational Software Architecture(RSA) for the CSE faculty members. The resource person Mr. Ragavan and Mr.Jagadesh from MicroGenesis Tech Software System, Bangalore conducted the workshop.
Theoretical and practical aspects of Design and Analysis of Software using the IBM tools including Rational Rose, and Rational Solution Architect were illustrated to the faculty members.
