DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS COLLEGE OF VOCATIONAL STUDIES

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

Department of Economics was established in 1972 with two teachers to begin with. It was expanded in 1979 with introduction of B.A.(Honours) Economics and it became a seven member department. In 1996-97 department adopted newly introduced Bachelor of Business Economics (BBE).

In addition, the Department teaches vocational streams in the B.A.(vocational Studies) Programme which include

1) Small and Medium Enterprises 2) Tourism Management

3) Materials Management

4) Human Resource Management

5) Marketing Management and Retail Business 6) Management and Marketing of Insurance

 The department also offers various generic courses to the students of other Honours Courses.

FACULTY MEMEBERS

Today, the department consists of 8 permanent staff members and 14 ad-hoc members, who are proficient in different areas of Economics.

PERMANENT FACULTY

Ms. Nandini Oberoi Associate Professor M.Phil (JNU)

Her areas of interest are Development Economics, Gender Studies, Environment Issues.

She has been teaching for last 35 years.

She has contributed two chapters to the Assam Human Development Report 2003, and the Introduction to the Arunachal Human Development Report 2005.

She has edited the Assam Human Development Report, 2003, the Chhattisgarh Human Development Report 2005, the Arunachal Human Development Report 2005, the Timor Leste Human Development Report 2011 and Maldives Human Development Report 2014.

She has been a member of the Convenor of the Admissions Committee (as Staff Council Secretary), Convenor of the Attendance Committee, member of the Library Committee and the Foreign Students Committee,

the Garden Committee, etc. Currently member of the Garden Committee and Convenor of the Foreign Students Committee.

She is a member of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Delhi, in the teachers’ category.

Dr. Anjana Arora

Bhatnagar

Associate Professor P.hd. (Dr. B.R Ambedkar University)

Her areas of interest are Labour and Migration, Money and Finance, Indian Economy.

She has been teaching for last 35 years.

She was a member of the Faculty of Social Sciences, from 2012-2015, University of Delhi.

She has been Convenor of the Girls Common Room Committee and Member of the Admission Committee, Time-table Committee, Leave advisory Committee, Building Committee, Verification Committee, Garden Committee, Library Committee, Screening Committee, Moderation Committee, Students Grievance Committee at different points of time.

Ms. Shashi Singh Associate Professor M.A. (JNU)

Her areas of interest are Public economics, Development Economics, International Business Environment.

She has been teaching for last 35 years.

She has been a member of Board of Studies, University of Delhi over the period 2011-2013, for the B.A (Programme) course and actively

participated in designing the course/ syllabus.

She organized and started the 'RANBHOOMI' sports meet of the B.A (H) Business Economics students, that is now held annually.

She was the convenor of various committees at various points of time – Discipline Committee, Cultural Committee , Garden Committee. Purchase Committee.

She has also been a member of various committees at various points of time –Students Union Committee, Attendance Committee, Sports Committee, Time Table Committe.

Dr. Pradip Kumar Biswas Associate Professor M.Phil & P.hd. (JNU)

His areas of interest are Institutional and Organizational Economics, Econometrics, Agricultural Economics, Industrial Economics, Innovations, Finance, Energy and Indian Economic Development.

He has been teaching for last 27 years.

He has 56 publications in the form of articles in international and regional journals, books, edited books, chapters in edited books and reports.

He has attended several national and international conferences, workshops and seminars in India and abroad as paper presenter, discussant and also chaired sessions.

He has submitted 9 reports to various government agencies.

He has been awarded Post Doctoral Fellowship (2009-1014) by the University, UTAD, in Portugal.

He has been awarded Visiting Fellowship for France (2009) jointly by ICSSR (India) and MSH (France).

He has worked as Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR-NISTADS in 2011-2013.

He has been a convenor and a member of the various committees such as Time-table Committe, Library Committee, Admission Committee, etc. at different points of time.

Dr. Ashis Taru Deb Associate Professor P.hd, (Delhi University)

His areas of interest are Industrial Economics, Banking, Corporate Governance in Banking.

He has been teaching for past 30 years.

He has published 25 papers in journals including Economic and Political Weekly and in edited books published by Macmillan, Bloomsbury, Allied Publications, etc.

He has presented papers in a number of national and international conferences held in India and abroad.

He was national co-ordinator for competing a 25 module material on Indian Economy for post graduate students in e-Pathshala project initiated by UGC, under National Mission of Education through ICT, MHRD.

He has been associated with Institute of Economic Growth as Sir Ratan Tata Senior Post doctoral research fellow during 1998-99.

He has jointly supervised a Ph.D thesis on banking, awarded by the University of Delhi.

Dr. Vijaya Rajni Associate Professor M.Phil. & P.hd. (JNU)

Her areas of interest are Agricultural Labour, Political Economy, Economic History of India, Labour and Development.

She has been teaching for past 29 years.

She has eight publications, one in Economic and Political Weekly, one book review, three chapters in edited books and has written three units for IGNOU.

Additionally, she presented a paper in an International Labour Conference.

She was a member of Innovation Project titled “ Impact of socio- economic cultural profile of students on academic performance” of Delhi University (2012-13).

She was an active member of the Expert Committee for the development of the Masters Programme in Labour and Development, in IGNOU.

She has also been a member of the team of course writers for the Masters Programme in Labour and Development.

She has been a Convenor of Time-Table Committee, Girls Common Room Committee, Cultural Committee.

She has been a member of Garden Committee, Discipline Committee, Library Committee, Sports Committee at various points of time.

Dr. Anand Kumar Associate Professor

M.Phil. Delhi University &

Ph.D (HNBGU)

His areas of interest are Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Indian Economic Development.

He has been teaching for past 28 years.

He has one publication.

He has presented research papers in national seminars and conferences.

He has also chaired sessions in national seminars and conferences.

He is worked on a major Innovation Research Project sanctioned by University of Delhi in 2015, titled, “Assessment of Emerging Attraction in the Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur).

He has been a member of time-table committee, discipline committee, Library committee at different points of time.

Dr. Anu Satyal Assistant Professor

M. Phil & Ph.D.(University of Cambridge, UK)

Her areas of interest are Development Economics, International trade, World Trading System, firm innovation and issues related to privatisation, regulation and governance of higher education.

He has been teaching for past 23 years.

She has 12 research papers in various journals like Journal of Business Thought, Asian Journal of Management Applications and Research, Educator, International Journal of Management Science Review, World Employment report Report. She has written and reviewed modules for e- Pathshala for ILLL.

She has attended many workshops and conferences and also presented a paper in a conference.

Awarded UGC’s Post Doctoral Research Award for 2016-18.

She worked on an Innovation Project granted by the University of Delhi for 2015-16.

She has been a Convenor of Girls Common Room Committee (2012-14) and Attendance committee (2009-11). She has been a member of Staff room Committee, garden Committee, Library Committee, debating society at various points of time. At present she is the deputy coordinator of IQAC.

She is also a referee/reviewer for eminent journals.

AD HOC FACULTY

Mr. Abhinub Kumar Assistant Professor M.A. (JNU)

His areas of interest are Microeconomic Theory, Macroeconomics, Indian Economic Problems, Trade Finance and Development, Political Economy of Development.

He has been teaching for last 3 years.

He has participated in the Indian Society of Labour Economics, 55th annual conference 2013.

He has participant in Young Scholars Seminar, CESP, JNU, 2014.

Ms. Annushri Assistant Professor

M.A. (Jamia Milia Islamia)

Her areas of interest are Micro economics, Macro economics and Mathematics for Economic Analysis.

She has been teaching for past 5 years.

She has five publications in reputed Journals like IRJMSH, CASIRJ and IRJMST.

Ms. Chhavi Gautam Assistant Professor M.Phil.(JNU)

Her areas of interest are Macroeconomics, Money and Financial Economics and Development Economics. Research area is quality of education , its access, and equity.

She has been teaching for 6 years in University of Delhi.

She was Awarded UGC JRF held in June 2011.

Participated in the 55thISLE Conference being organized by JNU from 15th to 18th December, 2013.

She has 3 publications.

Ms. Garima Malu Assistant Professor

M.Phil. (IGIDR, Mumbai)

Her areas of interest are Human Development, Game Theory.

She has been teaching for last 3 years.

She participated in Annual ISIK-IGIDR-CDS Doctoral Students Workshop,

“Social Development Index: Indian states”.

She worked on a Project on “Experiment on impact of non-monetary punishments in voluntary contribution mechanism”, under the supervision of Prof. Sujoy Chakravarty, JNU.

Ms. Harshil Kaur Assistant Professor M.Phil. (JNU)

Her areas of interest are Public Finance and Mathematics.

She has been teaching for last 4 years.

She has presented 3 papers in various national and international conferences.

She has published 2 articles in reputed journals.

She has worked as the content writer for various modules in e-PG Pathshala, Centre for E-Learning, SGTB College, University of Delhi.

She was awarded UGC JRF.

Ms, Kanika Goyal Assistant Profes sor M.Phil (Umiversity of Hyderabad)

Her areas of interest are Law and Economics, Microeconomics and Econometrics.

She has been teaching for last 2 years.

She was awarded UGC JRF held in Dec 2014.

She has presented a paper on, "The Economy of Digital Markets and its Competition: A view through Hooked Model and the role of CCI in Indian E-wallet Industry” at the National Conference on Economics of

Competition Law organized by the Competition Commission of India, New

Delhi in 2018.

She attended the Train-the-Trainer workshop on “Open Data and knowledge for Transparency, Advocacy and Research” organized by SAREC, The World Bank.

Ms. Mamta Lamba Assistant Professor M.Phil. (JNU)

Her areas of interest are International trade , Labour economics.

She has been teaching for last 3 years.

She has three publications, one in a edited Book and other in a Refereed Journal.

She presented a paper titled “Demographic boom to demographic dividend:

Road to success for India” at national Seminar held at Central University of Punjab, Bathinda.

She was awarded ICSSR Doctoral Fellowship .

Dr. Nand Kishore Mandal Assistant Professor P.hd. (JNU)

His areas of interest are Women empowerment, Tribal Identity and History, Education.

He has been teaching for past 13 years.

He has 15 publications including books, booklets and articles.

Ms. Nidhi Mittal Assistant Professor M.Phil. (JNU)

Her areas of interest are Regional Development, Regional Disparities, Economic growth, Poverty and Inequality, Gender and Labour issues.

She has been teaching for last 3 years.

She has 4 publications.

She presented a paper in an international conference and has participated in national and international workshops .

She participated in a Project “Study on Inter-Regional Disparities in Haryana” for Institute for Development and Communication, Chandigarh, 2014.

She has also been selected for the prestigious residential programme of Brown University- Brown International Advanced Research Institutes- BIARI, based at Brown University’s Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, Rhode Island, US.

Ms. Priti Agarwal Assistant Professor M.Phil (IGNOU, New Delhi)

Her areas of interest are Environmental Economics, Development Economics.

She has been teaching for past 5 years.

She has five publications in Indian Journal of Human Development and units written for Masters Programme of IGNOU.

She has also presented a paper in a conference at Jadavpur University.

She was awarded UGC JRF and ICSSR doctoral fellowship.

Mr. Rakesh Kumar Assistant Professor M. A. (University of Rajasthan)

His areas of interest are International Economics, Macro Economics.

He has been teaching for past 4 years.

He has one publication in International Research Journal of Commerce, Arts and Science.

Ms. Shelly Gupta Assistant Professor M.Phil (JNU)

Her areas of interest are International Economics, Econonetrics and Indian Economics.

She has been teaching for last 6 years.

She has presented paper in Regional Conclave on ASEAN@50 AND INDIA-ASEAN RELATIONS in 2017 and also in National conference titled current Reforms in Management, Economics and Applied Business in 2018.

Ms. Silpa P R Assistant Professor M.Phil. (JNU)

Her areas of interest are macroeconomics, development economics, Labour Economics, political economy.

She has been teaching for 8 years.

She Contributed article reviews in ICSSR Journal of Abstracts and Reviews vol.11, No.2 2009 (ISSN 0973-0869).

She Published an article in Newspaper editorial of ‘Mathrubhumi’ dated March 9 2012.

She received UGC JRF (June 2006).

Dr. Suman Rani Assistant Professor Ph.D. (MDU)

Her areas of interest are Indian Economy and Macro Economics.

She has been teaching for the past eight years.

She has nine publications including four research papers in national seminars.

She has also attended three workshops and an International Conference.
