Topic of Thesis: Mapping of gender and sexuality in the Caribbean through the selected writings of Shani Mootoo and Oonya Kempadoo.; Supervised by Prof. Ajaya K. Sahoo
In my ongoing research project, I am interrogating the issues of gender and sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular. I would like to analyse the causes behind the homophobia which is generally ingrained in the Caribbean society and, for that matter, most of the societies across the globe. For this detailed research into the issues of gender and sexuality I have been studying two most articulate writers, namely, Shani Mootoo and Oonya Kempadoo, from the Caribbean who have written extensively on these topics in their writings. I would also study the theories about sexuality in order to deconstruct how sexuality is not rigid and predetermined but a fluid subject. Moreover, I would analyse how the dynamics of gender and sexuality are intertwined and work hand in hand.
