FEMALE UNDERGRADUATE ADOLESCENCE AND THEIR LOCALITY INFLUENCE AS A FACTOR ON PERSONAL VALUES

Abstract - Personal value is a specific approach in the human life span, especially in adolescence and youth. It is one of the processes for behavioral concept which help individual to act accordingly and offer directions to its path. Keeping this in view, the current study was titled as “female undergraduate adolescence and their locality influence as a factor on personal values”. Total sample of100 undergraduate rural and urban female‟s adolescence was drawn on random sampling from different colleges of Meerut city Uttar Pradesh. Personal value inventory developed by (Dr. G.P. Sherry and Prof. R.P. Verma) was applied for data collection. Mean- S.D. and „t‟ test was applied for data analysis. Study indicates that locality appearance the significant difference in Family value among undergraduate rural and urban female adolescence over ten dimensions of personal values viz. Religious value, Social value, Democratic value, Knowledge value, Aesthetic value, Hedonistic value, Economic value, Power value, Family value and Health value.

1 INTRODUCTION

A Personal value is a systematic process for the holistic development of an individual especially in the life of adolescence and youth. Every individual has set of value structure which makes them distinguish from other individuals of society. Value pattern lays the foundation for more mature behavior modifications that are needful to face the challenging society. College going adolescence are more influence by the peer environment and locality around them as they grow towards maturity they develop the spotless and broader perspective regarding their personal values. It is a two way practice between the individual and its surroundings. Female adolescence and their locality influence act as an indicator for personal values which starts from very early stage of life as it is in grained by family environment, parents, teachers and other individuals around in the society but it is important to know the wider concept of personal value through individual own believes and practices. Personal values are the stepping roots of individual life to emerge the interacting concept with the challenges to achieve sustainable society and to move in today‟s modern era where lives become so complex and to understand the necessity, demand of this competitive domain it is important to develop the more sturdy lines which help the female adolescence to deal the multifaceted situations with great zeal and right attitude towards their life.

The reviewed studies in this field emphasis the value pattern and its influence in personal life of adolescence. (Bhatia et al. 2007), evaluate that no gender difference reflect between male and female students on the bases of their personal values. (Bhutia, 2013) compiles there is significant difference between rural and urban locality in religious, social, hedonistic, power and family prestige value. Further researcher emphasis that rural locality students are traditional and conservative in their notion of family prestige. (Kamaljeet, 2017) found that religious, democratic and family value were differ significantly in school male and female students further study claims that personal values such as social, aesthetic, economic, knowledge, hedonistic, power and health found no significant different in school male and female students. (Charles and Parikh, 2017) suggest that gender difference is significant in economic, power, health value, further study revealed that boys desire power value more as compare to girls. (Nasir and Fakhruddin, 2018) investigate that personal values such as religious, knowledge, hedonistic, power, family, health value did not reflect any significant difference between adolescence boys and girls but they have significant difference in social democratic, aesthetic, economic value.

In view of the above, the present investigation has been planned with the objective to study the female undergraduate adolescence and their locality influence as a factor on personal values.

1.1 Objectives

 To study the difference in personal values among rural and urban female undergraduate adolescence.

 To study the personal values of rural and urban female undergraduate adolescence in different dimensions viz. Religious value, Social value, Democratic value, Knowledge value, Aesthetic value, Hedonistic value, Economic value, Power value, Family value and Health value.

1.2 Hypothesis

There is no significant difference between the rural and urban female undergraduate adolescence in personal value dimensions viz. Religious value, social value, Democratic value, Knowledge value, Aesthetic value, Hedonistic value, Economic value, Power value, Family value and Health value.

1.3 Sample and sample technique

Random sampling technique were drawn on undergraduate female adolescence belongs to Meerut city Uttar Pradesh. Total sample comprised of 100 undergraduate female adolescence (50 rural female and 50 urban female) age up to 17 -19 years.

2 TOOL

For the current study researcher applied Prof. R.P. Verma and Dr. G.P. Sherry personal value questionnaire for data collection as a psychological test.

2.1 Statistical Analysis

To analysis the significance of rural and urban undergraduate female adolescence personal values in ten dimensions, Mean-Standard Deviation and „t‟ test were applied.

3 RESULT AND DISCUSSION

Table 1:- shows Mean, Standard Deviation and t values of rural and urban undergraduate female adolescence in personal value dimensions.

From the above table 1, it is clearly indicates that mean score of religious value is 10.72 in rural and 11.22 in urban and there is no significant difference between the rural and urban female adolescence in religious values at 0.05 level with df 98, thus the null hypothesis is accepted.

The above table reported that mean score of social value is10.66 in rural and10.7 in urban and there is no significant difference between the rural and urban female adolescence in social value at 0.05 level with df 98, thus the null hypothesis is accepted.

Further study reveals that mean score of democratic value is 15.72 in rural and 15.5 in urban and there is no significant difference between the rural and urban female adolescence in democratic value at 0.05 level with df 98, thus the null hypothesis is accepted.

Study conjointly focuses that mean score of Aesthetic value is11.98 in rural and11.78 in urban there is no significant difference between the rural and urban female adolescence in aesthetic value at 0.05 level with df 98, thus the null hypothesis is accepted.

Further study reveals that mean scores of Economic value is12.98 in rural and 12.6 in urban there is no significant difference between the rural and urban female adolescence in economic value at 0.05 level with df 98, thus the null hypothesis is accepted.

Data further reflects that mean score of Knowledge value is 12.62 in rural and12.82 in urban there is no significant difference between the rural and urban female adolescence in knowledge value at 0.05 level with df 98, thus the null hypothesis is accepted.

Study shown that mean score of Hedonistic values is 11.46 in rural and 11 in urban there is no significant difference between the rural and urban female adolescence in hedonistic value at 0.05 level with df 98, thus the null hypothesis is accepted.

Study found that mean score of Power value is 9.26 in rural and 9 in urban there is no significant difference between the rural and urban female adolescence in power value at 0.05 level with df 98, thus the null hypothesis is accepted.

Furthermore, result seeks that mean score of Family value is 13.96 in rural and11.86 in urban there is no significant difference between the rural and urban female adolescence in family value with t value -3.210 which is significant at 0.05 and 0.01 level with df 98, thus the null hypothesis is rejected. This shows that rural female adolescence choose more family value then urban female adolescence.

Study suggest that mean score of Health value is 9.62 in rural and 9.72 in urban there is no significant difference between the rural and urban female adolescence in health value at 0.05 level with df 98, thus the null hypothesis is accepted.

4 CONCLUSION

The above study concluded that there is significant difference in family value of undergraduate female adolescence belongs to rural and urban locality. Thus the null

hypothesis is rejected. therefore on the other side study reveals that the null hypothesis is accepted in personal values dimensions viz. Religious value, Social value, Democratic value, Aesthetic value, Economic value, hedonistic value, power value and health value has no significant difference between personal values of rural and urban undergraduate female adolescence. Thus the current study shows the locality influence only in family value belongs to rural and urban females over other personal value dimensions among undergraduate adolescence. Through the process of investigation while performing personal value psychological test, researcher randomly interact and exchange conversation regarding personal values and one of the interesting fact that researcher observed is undergraduate female adolescence belongs to rural locality are much concern about their family prestige value some of them would feel that they discontinue the work with friend if there is a fear of affecting family prestige, they also feel that while performing any activity or work they do consider that they do not degrade their family prestige. Undergraduate female adolescence also expresses their views that they do consider the choice of family members for their own marriage and they also prefer grooms family over grooms earning and nature while choosing a groom for their sister/daughter. They also display their opinion to prefer sound health for a happy life. Overall the investigation indicates that family value dimension of personal value is higher in rural female than in urban undergraduate female adolescence.Thus the current study show the locality influence in family value of rural and urban females beyond other personal value dimensions among undergraduate adolescence.
