Significant past weather for the preceding bi-weekly of Imphal - West (22ndto 25thFebruary, 2013) During the past three days the sky was clear to mainly clear but partly cloudy during morning hours of 27th Feb. No rainfall was recorded during past three days. Maximum temperature range observed was 29.8 – 30.8 oC, range of minimum temperature observed was 8.3 – 8.5 oC, mean relative humidity observed in morning and afternoon were 78.0 % and 25.33 % respectively. The average wind speed range was 2.1 – 3.0 km/hr.

There is likely of no rain during next five days. The sky is likely to beclear during next five days. The maximum temp. is likely to be 28.0 - 30.0oC. The minimum temp. is likely to be 7.0 - 9.0oC. Field Pea Pod formation - Irrigate the crop field as there is likely of no rain in next five days.

Storage - Seeds must be stored in RC-seed bins after proper drying. Check for germination of seeds or fungal growth. Clean and dry the seeds.

Horticulture Crops Turmeric/

Ginger Land preparation - Land preparation for sowing ginger/ turmeric may be done. Maintain proper tilt and with depth of 4-6 inches (for sowing).

- Sort out healthy rhizome seed from store/pit where it was stored. Check for incidence of scale insects and rhizome rot in the seed.

- Mix the rhizome seed with Carbendazim @3 gm/kg seed and also with some insecticide.

Colocassia Sowing - In upland and foot-hills, sowmukhi pan, ganga pan. In hill, sow local varieties [Meikeibi (Maipuri) and Kasangpan (in Tangkhul)].

- Treat cormal and corm having at least 1-2 buds before sowing.

Onion/ Garlic Bulb formation - If there is initiation of flower bud formation, pinch off it just above the neck at the earliest.

- During inter-culture operation make sure that the bulb is not covered with soil. The soil should not be too dry. Hence, irrigation must be provided to keep soil moist. Also, for commercial growers mulching of bed with dried twigs / paddy straw is advisible.

- There may be incidence of white mining lines of leaf minor and drying of tips. Spray Nuvan @ 0.5ml/lit of water + 1 ml of Monocrotophos per liter of water at weekly interval (twice) or Cypermethrin @ 1ml/liter of water may be sprayed.

Field Crops

Rice Pre- Kharif rice - Seed rate for nursery for transplanting: 60 kg/ha. Treat the seed with Carbendazim @ 2g/kg of seed.

- Maintain 2-3cm water level initially and drain out completely before sowing. Then increase the water level to just submerge soil surface and expose the green aerial sprouts.

- Then land preparation of main field for transplanting may also be started.

Rapeseed Pod formation - Irrigate the crop field.

Rabi Maize Vegetative - Irrigate the crop field. Weeding and earthing up may be done.

- Top dress with nitrogen fertilizer when the plant attains knee high.

Field Pea Pod formation - Irrigate the crop field as there is likely of no rain in next five days.

Storage - Seeds must be stored in RC-seed bins after proper drying. Check for germination of seeds or fungal growth. Clean and dry the seeds.

Horticulture Crops Turmeric/

Ginger Land preparation - Land preparation for sowing ginger/ turmeric may be done. Maintain proper tilt and with depth of 4-6 inches (for sowing).

- Sort out healthy rhizome seed from store/pit where it was stored. Check for incidence of scale insects and rhizome rot in the seed.

- Mix the rhizome seed with Carbendazim @3 gm/kg seed and also with some insecticide.

Colocassia Sowing - In upland and foot-hills, sowmukhi pan, ganga pan. In hill, sow local varieties [Meikeibi (Maipuri) and Kasangpan (in Tangkhul)].

- Treat cormal and corm having at least 1-2 buds before sowing.

Onion/ Garlic Bulb formation - If there is initiation of flower bud formation, pinch off it just above the neck at the earliest.

- During inter-culture operation make sure that the bulb is not covered with soil. The soil should not be too dry. Hence, irrigation must be provided to keep soil moist. Also, for commercial growers mulching of bed with dried twigs / paddy straw is advisible.

- There may be incidence of white mining lines of leaf minor and drying of tips. Spray Nuvan @ 0.5ml/lit of water + 1 ml of Monocrotophos per liter of water at weekly interval (twice) or Cypermethrin @ 1ml/liter of water may be sprayed.
