Abstract : Quantum Electrodynamics coupled to N fundamental fermions in 2+1 dimensions is expected to undergo spontaneous symmetry breaking for sufficiently small N. After reviewing this background, I will discuss the effect of adding a Chern-Simons coupling. I will present our conjecture for the new symmetry breaking pattern and present plausibility arguments for it.
