Panel discussions

Glimpses of past editions of CRISIL’s India Infrastructure Conclave

Focus on fundamentals,

driven by the thrust to capital expenditure and infrastructure investments by the government, have helped India tide over uncertainties and economic slowdown caused by the pandemic

India’s plan of becoming a $5 trillion economy hinges on sizeable investments in public and private infrastructure, estimated at $1.4 trillion in fiscal 2022. The timelines for this economic target may have shifted by 2-3 years in the current state. Meanwhile, an important dimension has been added — that of ensuring sustainability to infrastructure. To wit, India’s goal of ensuring responsible growth by achieving carbon neutrality by 2070 requires the infrastructure plans to be restated so there is minimal impact on the environment.

As in earlier editions, the event this year will bring together a galaxy of senior sector leaders, both private and government, to deliberate on the funding and capacity building needs of sustainability infrastructure across the avenues of energy, transportation and urban facilities. Under the wider theme, three discussion panels will be conducted, on assessment of investment required for building green urban infrastructure, on the investment required for sustainable mobility and transportation, and on identification of avenues for green capital for financing these investments.

Financing the great Indian build-out

CRISIL launched the CRISIL India Infrastructure Conclave, its annual flagship Infrastructure event in 2017, as a thoughtleadership platform to bring together, policymakers, industry leaders and other stakeholders, to stimulate and yield ideas, actions and reforms to drive India’s infrastructure build-out.

Held in Delhi, the last two editions of the Conclave were a resounding success – with more than 200 senior stakeholders present.

Critical role of states in India’s infrastructure agenda

The third edition of the CRISIL India Infrastructure Conclave The theme for the year 2019 — ‘Critical role of States in India’s Infrastructure agenda’ — shed light on the sharp increase in States’ share of India’s infrastructure spending.

It focused on identifying constraints (including governance, institutional and fiscal) and discussed about the concrete actions needed to stepup resource mobilization, credit enhancement, private sector participation through PPP models and through monetization of public sector assets. The conference brought together a galaxy of senior leaders (both private and government) in the infrastructure domain in the country, to deliberate on these issues.

2019 2018

Enabling private sector participation in the infrastructure build-out The second edition of the CRISIL India Infrastructure Conclave The government had done the heavy lifting in terms of infrastructure investments. However, with large-scale

infrastructure build-outs planned, a material ramp-up in private sector investments has been critical. This seminar focused on the specific enablers needed with respect to equitable risk allocation, contract flexibility, innovative financing and regulatory framework to revive and scale private investment in infrastructure.

The fourth edition of CRISIL Infrastructure Yearbook, offers an in-depth, comprehensive view of key infrastructure sectors in India.

A unique feature of the conclave is CRISIL InfraInvex — an investability index that tracks the investment attractiveness of different infrastructure sectors — whose readings are captured in the yearbook and also presented at the event.
