AN INSTITUTION COMMITTED TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: A CASE STUDY OF JAYOTI VIDYAPEETH WOMEN‟S UNIVERSITY (JAIPUR)

Abstract:-Founded in 2008, Jayoti Vidyapeeth Women’s University is a vibrant, research led Women’s University having perfect & safe environment to live and study. Having topclass academic environment, JV provides an ideal foundation for your personal and professional development. The Jayoti Vidyapeeth Women's University, Jaipur has been established and incorporated under the Act 17 of 2008 passed by Rajasthan State Legislature and notified by the Government of Rajasthan through its official Gazette Notification No. F.2 (23) Vidhi /2/2008 dated April 21, 2008.
Mission of the University
The mission of University is to provide
“Education for Community Development” leading to women empowerment and awareness of Women Rights and Law to all the people.
The University is continuously striving to achieve its mission of Women empowerment leading to community development and preparing thoughtful, committed citizens to help overcome various challenges faced by community especially rural one by doing several activities for nearby villages under a compulsory subject called “Community Development Activity” in all the programs irrespective of the disciplines since its inception. Under this subject all the students are required to provide extension services in the neighborhood community for successful completion of the program. The course is a part of „University Mission Course‟. The course helps in developing a feeling of belongingness and respect for society among students. The course also helps them in developing a more responsible citizen.
Besides this University is based on the principles that respect the rights of all community members to be informed, consulted, involved and empowered and employs and range of tools and strategies to ensure success It also places a premium on fostering and enhancing trust as a critical element in long-term, sustainable engagement and effective governance. They are involved in effective community engagement that engage the community to achieve long-term and sustainable outcomes, processes, relationships,
discourse, and decision-making in a community-context sensitive environment.
The students of the University perform the following activities for the development of neighboring villages by spreading awareness and providing services to them:
Education:
Spreading awareness on literacy, anti ragging, educating girl child, abolishing child Marriage, dowry and domestic violence.
Provides education about green and clean environment.
Providing services for incapables like book bank, stationary, clothes, free education provided to villagers of BPL category.
Spreading awareness about Government policy of “Sarv Shikhsha Abhiyan”.
Spreading awareness by performing Nukkad Natak on various social issues.

2 Agriculture:
Soil Health Card: University gives awareness of plantation technology, crop production and fertilizers by issuing Soil Health Card. Samples of soils and crops are collected to examine and counseling facilities are provided to improve fertility.
Veterinary Clinic for medical treatment of animals and providing knowledge about animal farming.
Law
Legal Awareness to make folks, especially women about rights of women, associated laws, and functioning of the institutions providing legal services.
Law activities: Students present documentaries, Power point and Poster presentations, debates and declamation on legal issues.
Case study: Students study the individual conflict and matters of the villagers, analyses the cases and provides legal aids.
Health
University launched “Balika Swasthya Yojana” and “School Health Card” to create awareness among society and female students about health, hygiene and higher studies. Under the schemes villagers and school children are guided for healthy livelihood.
University organizes health camps in schools and villages to create awareness about the vaccination, university hospital services and government health policies.
Health cards are issued to villagers and free health checkups (eye test, dental checkup, blood test and full body checkup) is done.
University’s Ayush Hospital works under Janni Suraksha Yojna, which
is the State’s first Ayurvedic hospital for institutional delivery.
Sex education: Information is provided to the youth on sex issues like sexuality, puberty age, HIV- AIDS etc.
Students visits old age home for the physical and mental checkup.
E-Services: University is providing various e services through their portal and mobile apps for the betterment of society in the field of education, health, hygiene and agriculture.
E- Yogacharya – A portal which acts as a yoga instructor to provide correct postures and alignment for curing diseases.
E- Bazar- Handicraft made by the Department of Interior & Fashion as per the requirements of the community are displayed and auctioned here.
E-Physio - A portal which gives information about correct postures for healthy living.
E-Education- Learning tools, pedagogy, personalized learning, open Educational Resources are provided.
E- Agriculture- Provides information about the soil, seeds, fertilizers, crops and provides online counseling related to their queries.
Dr. Garg Digital Herbal Garden- A portal which provides information about Ayurvedic, Homeopathic and Allopathic medicinal values of various herbs.
