Need for IBY analytics in the Mental health domain

IBY's posture detection will be able to detect symptoms of anxiety such as nail biting and hand touching. Sound detection by IBY will be able to detect symptoms of depression with pitch and speed of sound.

According to the 2021 State of the World's Children report, 1 in 7 youth 15 to 24 have grown up feeling discouraged during the pandemic in India. A miserable state of mind or a lack of interest or no enjoyment in basic movements of every kind is one of the side effects.

Background research and hypothesis

Everyone's mental health has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a result, individuals are sharing their experiences and looking for practical solutions. No matter what's going on in a person's life, IBY's AI can help identify that person's emotions and serve as a reminder to pay attention to emotions and mental health.

Understanding the mental health of the Indian audience

While autism spectrum disorders and ADHD were significantly more common in men than women, depressive disorders and eating disorders contributed significantly more to total DALYs in women than in men.

User surveys and interviews

These individuals have experienced emotional distress during and after the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. People who experience some signs of depression also have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep for a significant amount of time, or sleeping too much, perhaps more than twelve hours. Those individuals who experience some signs of depression have reported having low energy, a poor appetite, and very little interest or little to no pleasure in anything.

I chose the target group as 18-year-olds, as 16 is too young to judge one's own mental health without an adult present. I went that way because depression seemed to be the most prevalent problem among people of this age.

Understanding the target audience

  • Body image in young adults
  • Social media and its impact
  • Social stigma in India

An individual's mental well-being can be affected by various risk factors from several aspects of life. It is the idea of one's own changing body, including how it moves through space, feels, appears in the mirror and is seen by others – emotions, perceptions, bodily sensations, experiences and moods all influence how we perceive our bodies. A depressive state involves two extremes of emotion, where lively is down and negative is up, along with various psychological symptoms such as anxiety and depressive moods, anxiety and an impact on one's physical and mental growth.

Hackers misuse their personal data for illegal or illegal activities because they are unaware of the privacy policy. Social media entertainment, especially Instagram, has been overwhelmed with content related to emotional well-being during the past year. Despite prepared psychological well-being experts, scores of self-styled care specialists, unlicensed analysts, persuasive speakers, and emotional well-being influencers have sprung up, offering exhortations or "convenience solutions" to manage the various stresses people have encountered since the pandemic. Psychotherapists think this has prompted peer pressure on youthful adults to feel good, keen on the treatment cycle and self-diagnosis in light of connection with a portion of the side effects of emotional well-being illnesses and different issues.

Mental health-related public stigma has a more significant adverse influence on young individuals seeking help than adults. What's more, unlike adults, young people are less likely to seek treatment for mental health issues due to typical concerns about a lack of confidentiality, peer pressure, a desire to be independent, and a lack of information about mental health-related services or services. Not surprisingly, compared to young adults, teenagers in a study found it more challenging to disclose their mental health issues.

Target audience needs and wants

In this way, most of the people who experience discouragement sooner or later in their lives are traced in India. The drive to fit in and appear "normal" in society emerges as harmful stigma and pressure to seek help. Mostly teenagers are not interested in reading and they tend to hate to adopt this habit. At this age, reading is their worst enemy, and they are offended by people who advise them to read.

Since most mental health apps are English platforms (although other languages can be used here too), they do not understand some English content. Some young adults are aware of the mental health platforms, but they tend to confuse this platform with any other app on the Play Store where people just take a breath to feel better. They have to be secretive about it, and if anyone finds out, they are interrogated or bullied.

After spending nearly three-quarters of their day with academics, young adults are looking for entertainment, not just another productivity tool.

Existing mental health solutions

Because the IBY solution would also be an online solution, there is a perception that all internet platforms are some kind of distraction. I also conducted a small survey to understand the target group's knowledge of the existing mental health app. This helped me to conclude that I have created a fun and interactive user experience for the users.

Based on these findings, I created the IBY Mental Health Solutions brand and designed solutions for users.

Sorting activities and solutions

Minimal Depression: Users with minimal/no depression may only need a few self-care activities to create a healthy routine. These user groups can be suggested to join Doujins to receive support and be part of society to bring them out of isolation. Moderate depression has been shown to improve with Talk Therapy, which can provide CBT worksheets.

Learning mindfulness and some activities to take a break from CBT (since CBT is strenuous exercise); recommending and encouraging to join Doujins are some other solutions that can help this group of users. Exercise such as walking in nature should be encouraged with some core stretching because it helps increase dopamine levels. Moderately severe depression: Users with moderately severe depression should be referred for professional help.

Give one metaphorical exercise to work on each week, along with some activities to lighten their mood. Provide chronotype solutions to help with an optimal schedule and find motivation for productivity. If a user finds it impossible to get professional service, we can provide solutions from the moderately severe depression section.

The more the number of Aikou points the user earns, the more helper levels they reach. Vitamin and protein levels are calculated for the day based on what they add to the plate. If the user exceeds the limit, we can encourage them to not eat and try to be healthy.

In this way, the user chooses what they want to eat and is in control of their health. The user can move around the space and interact with elements giving them a gamification version of a mental health solution. I also took a professional's opinion and was told that keeping the style simple would work much better with the user group.

I took the following approach for the illustration style: simple hand-drawn lines that give an organic and authentic look. For the rewards section, I tried to present both elements, the Aikou points and the incentives with which we will reward the user. On the expert side, for the picture I sketched two people empathizing with the person while analyzing them and taking notes.

For the sections representing the community, doujin, or an external support section, I thought about showing a group of people doing an activity. I have also illustrated about 63 sketches for the activities I will be designing for different levels of depression.

Hi-fidelity user interface

Breathing exercises have been proven to help you calm down and refocus. In this section, we can provide them affirmative quotes with interpretation or any funny quotes that break them. "Tell My Tales" gives an individual an opportunity to videotape their memories with our AI providing a detailed analysis of their emotions.

The user can record their stories and our AI will replay them whenever they want. People with depression tend to always focus on the negative aspects and low moments of a situation. The footer page gives the user more options to explore on our website, such as finding a pro near me, viewing all exercises, my rewards, sleep and nutrition.

The emotional balance gives the user an overall score of their emotions and gives a report on the level of depression they may be experiencing. The mood compass further separates the emotional score and emotional count of the most expressed emotions by the user. It will also share what time of day the user should perform the activity with the mentioned timestamp.

Additional work

The dashboard page allows users to assess their emotional balance by viewing their mood history for the previous three days. Mood Compass is well designed for the target audience of 24-30 year olds in the US workplace. The purpose of using a radial chart was to make it easier for the user to interpret the graph.

The interface is designed in such a way that the user can select an emotion and connect to it. Rationale: This lets the user know that the AI is not just calculating their emotional graph; he is also taking into account their opinions. An animation is shown to the user to help them follow the flow without getting confused.

Daily Routine Check: A daily check-in allows users to track their activities to become a happier, healthier version of themselves. It also allows the user to set time for relaxation and cool down to regain their focus. This is useful because it will enable users to successfully manage their time and focus on a task without being distracted.
