Annual Report of NSS Activities Carried Out During 2018-2019

(1) International Yoga Day:

‘International Yoga Day’ was celebrated on 21st June, 2017 at University Bhavan, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. Staff members and students of College of Food Processing Technology and Bio Energy, Anand Agricultural University, Anand took part in the above event.

(2) Campus Ambassador:

In July 2018, Campus ambassador was appointed from second year NSS Volunteer of College of Food Processing Technology & Bio Energy for proper planning and execution of the NSS regular activities in the campus. The details of the same are as follows:

(3) Participation in youth Parliament

Two students namely Patel Arpit Nileshbhai and Patel Jigar Girdharbhai participated in “Mock youth parliament” Voice of New India at Principal, B.J. Vanijya Mahavidhyalaya, V.V. Nagar in August-2018

(4) Food loss awareness lecture

The awareness programme on “food losses” organized for 1st year NSS volunteer students on 06/09/2018 at 16:00 pm at ‘Seminar Room’, College of Food Processing Technology and Bio Energy, AAU, Anand. Dr. R.F. Sutar, Principal & Dean, College of FPTBE in his speech highlighted the importance of food, its loss and how to prevent loss. Dr. S.S. Kapdi, Professor and Head advised the student not to waste food at hostel, home and at public gathering. Dr. R. V.

Prasad, and Head importance of quality food and its value in day to day food.

2 (5) State pre Republic Day Parade Participation

Gohil Harpalsinh Bharatsinh participated in “State Pre-Republic day parade selection” camp held at Gujarat University Senate Hall, Ahmedabad in September 22-24, 2018. Gohil Harpalsinh Bharatsinh was also selected in Final State Pre-Republic day parade team.

(5) Tree Plantation

“Tree Plantation” program under National Service Scheme (NSS), FPTBE cell organized at College of Food Processing Technology and Bioenergy, AAU, Anand on 27th July, 2018 at 16:00 h. Dr. D. C. Joshi Retd. Dean & principal, along with HoDs, staff members and students of the college participated in this program.

3 (6) Cleanliness Campaign:

As a part of ‘Swachhta Abhiyaan/Pakhwada’ the NSS Volunteers (boys) of College of FPT &

BE, AAU, Anand took part in a cleanliness drive at the ‘Visvesvaraya Boys Hostel’, AAU, Anand on 14/08/2018. The similar drive was conducted by NSS Volunteers (girls) of the college at ‘Maitreyeegirls hostel’ and its nearby places in the campus on 13/08/2018. The drive lasted for

two hours. Also cleaning of the college class rooms and outside campus/premise was done by NSS volunteers on 29-9-2018 and 19-1-2019. The Volunteers cut and collected the unwanted shrubs, collected stones and garbage from inside and outside of the hostel, classroom, surrounding the college premise and nearby places in the campus.

(7) Celebration of ‘Independence Day’:

71st Independence Day was celebrated on 15/08/2018 at University Bhavan, Anand Agricultural University, Anand in the august presence of Honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. N.C. Patel, Director of Students Welfare, Dr. S.H. Akbari, Dean, FPT & BE, Dr. D.C. Joshi, Directors and Deans from other colleges of AAU. Program Officer, NSS with the volunteers of College of Food Processing Technology and Bio Energy, AAU, Anand were remained present.

(8) Participation in National Adventure Camp:

Patel Arpit Nileshbhai has been selected and took part in national adventure camp organized by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India held at Manali during 08-11-2018 to 17-11- 2019.

(9) Celebration of Anti-Addiction Week:

Celebration of anti-addiction week was started from 2nd October, 2018, the day which is also celebrated as ‘Gandhi Jayanti’. A district level function was held at Dr. A.C. Pandya Auditorium Hall, FPTBE, AAU, Anand, all students of College of FPT & BE, AAU, Anand took part and delivered the speech on given topics related to addiction.

5 (7) Blood Donation Camp:

A Blood Donation Camp under National Service Scheme (NSS) was organized at College of Food Processing Technology and Bio energy, AAU, Anand with Indian Red Cross Society, Anand on 5th October, 2018 from 09:30 am to 1 pm. Staff members and students of College of FPT & BE took part in this camp. Total 51 units of blood were collected.

(9) Republic Day Celebration:

Anand Agricultural University celebrated 69th Republic Day on January 26, 2019 at University Bhavan, AAU, Anand. All University Officers, staff and student volunteers with Program Officer, NSS of College of Food Processing Technology and Bio Energy, AAU, Anand and of other colleges and their family members remained present to grace this yearly celebration. Dr. N.

C. Patel, Hon. Vice Chancellor hoisted the flag & saluted it by all. National Anthem ‘Jan Gan Man’ and National Flag Anthem ‘Zanda Uncha Rahe Hamara’ sang by all.

(10) Thalassemia Screening Test and Counselling Camp:

A Thalassemia counselling camp was organized jointly by the College of Food Processing Technology and Bio Energy, AAU, Anand and Indian Red Cross Society, Ahmedabad on 10/07/2018 at ‘Seminar Room’, College of FPT & BE, AAU, Anand. All the students, who had not Thalassemia screened till that time, of the College attended the camp. Students of the College were informed about the Thalassemia. A Thalassemia screening test was organized at 17-12-

2018 and total 47 students, who had not done Thalassemia screened till that time took part and samples were collected.

(11) NSS Special Camp (7 days):

College of Food Processing Technology and Bio Energy and Polytechnic in Food Science and Home Economics, AAU, Anand,organized a special camp under National Service Scheme (NSS) from 14/03/2019 to 20/03/2019 at village Agas, Taluka- Petlad & District- Anand. Total 45 students from College of Food Processing Technology and Bio Energy participated actively in this camp.

The students were led by Dr. K.V. Vala (Program Officer, NSS), College of FPT & BE and AAU, Anand.

The objective of this camp was to begin the interface with community, rapport building with community members and to develop understanding about welfare of the village. For the Special Camp, Dr. K V Vala, Programme Officers of colleges NSS cell visited the village before commencing the camp and met Sarpanch of Agas village, ward members and other influential members of the community. The plan of organizing the special camp was discussed at the village. The plan and its utility were appreciated by the Sarpanch and other members of the

village and they agreed for the camp to be organized. After the confirmation was made, a meeting with NSS volunteers was called on dated 11.03.2019. In this meeting a brief presentation was made to the volunteers and plan for the camp was discussed. The volunteers excitingly participated in the discussion and planned the road map for camp along with guided supervision of Dr. K. V. Vala.

Major Activities Undertaken: Meeting with Villagers and Panchayat Representatives by NSS Programme Officers. Transact Walk in the Village. Cleanness Drive. Rally. Food loss and anti- addiction awareness campaign. Street play. Interaction with villagers, women, school children.

Sports & cultural events. Drawing Competition, etc.

Groups of Volunteers:

45 students from College of Food Processing Technology and Bio Energy and 32 students from Polytechnic in Food Science and Home Economics took part in this camp. Programme Officer, NSS Cell FPTBE formed group in such a way that one group should consists of seven volunteers from each college, thus making it total 11 groups. Further, each group consisted of both male and female volunteers.

Once the groups were formed, one group leader was selected from each group for better coordination and delegation of responsibilities. Details of volunteers of FPTBE are as follows:

Major Activities Undertaken During Special Camp 2019:

Activity –1: Meeting with Villagers and Panchayat Representatives by NSS Programme Officers.

Activity –2: Transact Walk in the Village.

All volunteers were divided into eleven large groups. In this walk, volunteers had to walk all around the village. It helped volunteers to get familiar about which road goes to where and who live where, etc. All the groups were sent in four directions of East, West, North and South. In this way, the findings from all the groups helped the volunteers to get a lot of information about settlement pattern, Schools, Anganwadies, Bazaar, religious places, play grounds for children, etc.

9 Activity –3: Cleaning Drive.

As a part of ‘Swachhta Abhiyaan’, cleaning campaign was undertaken by all the groups of volunteers in area of Ramji temple, Mahadev temple, primary school and roads of Agas village.

To begin with, cleaning drive continued for all the 7 days in the morning time.

Activity –4: Rally.

Road rallies were organized on three main social issues- stop food loss, Food information and Addiction. Slogans were incorporated regarding food saving, nutritious food, to overcome malnutrition, relief from various addictions i.e. drugs, tobacco, alcohol etc.

Activity – 5: Thalassemia Screening Test and Awareness Campaign.

A Thalassemia screening test and awareness campaign was organized jointly by the College of FPTBE, PFSHE, AAU, Anand and Indian Red Cross Society at Bhathiji Mandir , Agas village on 21/03/2018 from 10:00 am. All the NSS volunteers of both the colleges and villagers attended the camp. Thalassemia screening test was conducted for those students of Polytechnic in Food Science and Home Economics who were not Thalassemia screened so far. The students and the villagers were informed about the Thalassemia. For this, a short lecture about Thalassemia disease and its prevention was delivered by the members of Indian Red Cross Society so that the volunteers and villagers can get familiar with this disease.

Activity –6: Play.

Drama was played on major social issue i.e. old age homes. In this play, volunteers tried to show to the students of the school regarding the problems of old aged people and how they are treated after getting old with their own.

Activity –7: Interaction.

Interaction was made with villagers and students of high school regarding food, nutrition, processed foods, Colleges of A.A.U., entrepreneurship development through food etc.

Activity –8: Sports & Cultural Events.

Various sports i.e. Badminton, Kho-kho, Volley ball and cultural activities i.e. Garba, Jokes were also organized for volunteers and school students of the village.

Activity –9: Drawing Competition.

Drawing competition on “Maaru Gaam Swachh Gaam” for the students of high school was also planned and executed, prizes were given to them.

Activity –10: Awareness Campaign.

Door to door visit was accomplished by volunteers to make aware the villagers about net banking, various mobile apps and other informative internet applications. Live demonstration was made who were keen to know.

Valedictory Programme of the Camp:

The valedictory function of the special camp was organized on 22/03/2019 at Bhathiji Mandir, Agas village. Dr. M.M. Trivedi, D.S.W.,A.A.U., was the chief guest of the programme. In his speech Dr. M.M. Trivedi highlighted the importance of NSS and also appreciated the students for carrying out various activities. Other respected guest Dr. R.F. Sutar, Principal & Dean, College of FPTBE and Dr. K.B. Kamaliya, Principal of PFSHE, was also present on this occasion. They all spent their valuable time with the volunteers and also appreciated the efforts of the volunteers made during the camp. In general D.S.W. ensured all effective support and activities possible at the university end would be extended to the village.
