Abstract : The study of arithmetic aspects of algebraic groups started over the field of rational numbers. Later this expanded to more general fields. Showing finiteness on the number of algebraic groups with certain properties plays an important part in this study. I will discuss some recent progress in this direction along with some applications, open problems and conjectures.
