The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) gave the college ‘A’ grade with a CGPA of 3.30 in 2016. The college was ranked 16th at all India level by NIRF. Gargi College is also ranked high by India Today for its science, humanities and commerce courses.

In addition to this, the College has also been honoured with Star College Status by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

Gargi College is one of the most prestigious colleges for women affiliated to the University of Delhi. The college was established in the year 1967, and offers exemplary education in Arts, Humanities, Commerce, Science and Education fields.

ARTS AND HUMANITIES

The course in Applied Psychology is loaded with practicum conducted through experiential exercises, field studies and projects to enable students in developing skills and competencies needed for meeting the challenges and needs of the real world effectively.

Economics as an under graduate option opens up a huge spectrum of vistas ranging from academics, management, corporate sector, and bureaucracy to name a few. B.A. (H) Eonomics is the perfect hedge for a spectacular future, ceteris paribus.

B.A. (Hons.) English and M.A. English:

English is an impactful department that takes students through the best in world literatures. The syllabus is rigorous in its coverage of important literary texts and landmarks and thus stands students in good stead in their future professional endeavours.

This course introduces the students to great works of famous poets, dramatists, novelists and critical theorists from classical tomodern times. The course content of Hindi has been specifically designed to equip the students with the requisite knowledge and skills to excel in the varied areas.

B.A. (Hons.) Sanskrit:

The relevance of studying Sanskrit has been increased in the recent times and can offer students many avenues of intellectual and professional growth such as media, management, Ayurveda, Theater, Computer linguistics etc.

B.A. (Hons.) Philosophy:

The objective of this subject is to make one read, think, research and critically analyse the world around. It helps to obtain a self-consistent understanding of things observed. Philosophy helps students prepare for careers in education, research, mass communication, journalism, social work, law, film appreciation, civil services, management studies and gender studies.

The department of Political science is dedicated to understanding and explaining the various meanings and practices of politics. It prepares students not only to be active citizens of the country but also helps them develop an analytical thinking so that they can critically engage with the issues concerning the state and its policies.

B.A. Programme course offers large amount of flexibility, and the student is introduced to diverse subjects of disciplinary and interdisciplinary nature.

Courses in B.A. Programme are relevant to the immediate environment of social opportunities while offering basic intellectual equipment expected of a programme of higher education.

B.A.(Hons.) History:

The course acquaints students with the History of India (Ancient, Medieval and Modern) and also of Europe, the East Asia, the USSR and the United States of America. It enables students to pursue a career in education, civil services, research, journalism, law, archaelogy etc.

SCIENCE

Botany is a discipline of Biology which deals with study of plants. The course structure complements conventional branches of plant sciences with modern biology and comprises of class room lectures, laboratory practicals and field studies.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany:

B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry and M.Sc. Chemistry:

Department of Chemistry has distinguished itself as a centre for innovative and pioneering research in a wide range of areas in chemistry and chemistry interfacing with physical and biological sciences. The Department aims to nurture the student in every possible way.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics:

The curriculum for B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics is prepared keeping in mind the needs and aspirations of students of mathematics as well as the evolving nature of mathematics as a subject. The course holds a balance between pure and applied mathematics.

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms that are too small to be seen by unaided eye. This course not only imparts students with an in-depth knowledge of the subject, but enables them to gauge the huge possibilities and practical application of microorganisms in food and pharmaceutical industries, Microbial diagnosis in health clinics, biofertilizers and biopesticides.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics is a study of matters and its motion through space and time. The curriculum includes various Skill enhancement courses where students "learn by doing".

B.Sc. (Hons.) Zoology:

Department of Zoology offers understanding and knowledge in its field through the well-designed course work and various co-curricular programs, harmonizing each student's academic life. It focuses on equipping students with clear and comprehensive knowledge of Zoological training that covers both classical and applied facet of animal life.

B.Sc. (Prog.) Physical Sciences:

The department strives to inculcate appropriate values and qualities required to develop sports persons and physical education professional at various levels. The course has been designed to encourage psychomotor learning in a game-based setting.

B.Sc. (Prog.) Life Sciences:

B.Sc. Life Sciences is a 3-year undergraduate course involving the study of various life processes in plants, animals and organisms. The course, incorporates both practical and theoretical knowledge in the students.

The B.Com(Hons.) and B.Com. (Prog.) course comprises of various unique subjects viz. The Commerce education also opens further avenues in academic as well as professional fronts. Courses like M.Com, CA, CMA, CFA, CS, MBA, Actuarial science etc.

PROFESSIONAL COURSES

It is a four-year integrated professional degree programme for training teachers at the elementary school level. It is a recognised programme by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The idea behind this programme is to integrate the study of subject knowledge, human development, teaching skills and communication skills.

Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)

B.A. (Honours) Business Economics is an inter- disciplinary course having a curriculum designed to equip the students with knowledge of diverse fields including Economics, Commerce and Mathematics. The structure of the course aims to develop analytical skills in the students which enable them to understand Business world and Economics scenario. The three year programme makes it mandatory for students to gain practical exposure by interning in different sectors.

INTERNSHIP STATISTICS

The college received an overwhelming footfall of 300+

companies for internship opportunities during the Academic session 2020-21.

A diverse blend of profiles were extended to our students ranging from Financial Analyst, Content Writing and Creation, UX/UI designing, HR, Risk Advisory, Social Media Marketing, Audit, Volunteering, etc.

The highest stipend offered was INR 3.6 LPA. Other perks included Certificate of Internship and Letter of Recommendation.

Placement Cell, Gargi College held its first Virtual Internship Fair ‘Elevate 2021'. The event was an effort to amplify one’s knowledge, skills and experience and was open to all the Delhi University Colleges along with some other top colleges of the Country.

We had 25 prestigious companies on board which provided 45+ profiles for students from diverse streams and received 700+ registrations and had a total of 225+ attendees. The Virtual Internship fair was a huge success and was met with great enthusiasm.

During the academic year 2020-21, the college received recruitment opportunities for current batches as well as alumni batches from various sectors for diverse profiles.

Profiles offered include Tax, Audit, Actuarial Services, Financial Analyst, Content Creator, Sales Representative, etc.

The average package stood at 4.38 LPA, while highest package offered was 19.25 LPA.
