1 Abstract

Due to the increase in the workload and the observable increase in the competi- tion amongst the youth, the health and fitness of oneself are put as a secondary priority amongst them. Therefore, one needs to monitor this regularly. This is where sensor-enabled smart shoes help. They help us check these without any separate time given to them. This paper is based on research for such shoes only.

2 Introduction

In this project, we intend to develop shoes that have sensors for various health and fitness monitoring parameters. This will help people to focus on their health and fitness without any time getting wasted on this separately as people wear shoes most of the time during work. For future work, we hope to add obstacle- detecting features for the safe movement of visually impaired people.

3 Methodology

Firstly, we will note down the parameters which are relevant to the health and fitness of a person. Then, we will study different sensors which can be used to measure these parameters. We will also research their application in shoes so that it is safe for the person wearing them.

Then we will collect the data for different people on different surfaces and loca- tions to study the effect of surroundings on the parameters and compare them.

5 Evaluation

We plan to test the shoes in different environments and surfaces and with people of different ages. We will also get a certificate from the Health Department to ensure the safety of everyone wearing these.

5.1 Deliverables

In the end, we will get shoes that will have Bluetooth connectivity. The smart- phone connected will show the health and fitness data of the person, like steps walked, distance covered, etc.
