Abstract - The project is about making of Hybrid Doorway Residential types of Barriers for floods and flash floods which may or may not occur at regular or irregular intervals. The Barriers stop the flood water from entering the specific area they are setup. These Barriers can be manually operated. The development of an effective device that will help in response to flash floods as well floods. The device is highly effective in its cost range to stop the water from entering specific area or residential houses.
1 INTRODUCTION
This document will tell the reader about the development of an effective device
Hybrid Doorway Residential that will help in response to flash floods as well floods. The device is highly effective in its cost range to stop the water from entering residential houses.
A flood can be defined as overflow of water that submerges the land that is dry. Floods study is called hydrology.
Floods are the most general natural severe weather occurrence. Floods may look very diverse because submerging covers whatsoever from may be a few inches of water to several feet.
Floods are frequently caused by heavy downpour or rainfall, swift snowmelt or a hurricane surge coming from a tropical typhoon or bore in coastal areas.
1.1 Problem Statement
The main problem here is related to heavy rainfall takes place abnormally in many regions of the world resulting in flash floods and floods due to which the people obtain caught off guard and the flood water and their areas for houses due to which it gives rise to a bigger problem that is the contamination of the dirty water as well as the destruction of household supplies weakening of the house structure and other problems like sinkholes and degradation of materials.
While reading this document further the reader will get the idea of the of the problem and the existing systems that are available today in the world also the reader will get to know the proposed system in the form of this for this project named Deluge Barriers.
As for the name of the project meaning of the word Deluge is severe flood and Barriers means to obstruct the way of something.
2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Existing System
Flood Barriers
The flood barrier design varies from a simple modular 'stop-log' water barrier to automatic barriers that operate only when required. Flood protection heights up to 4m and unlimited lengths of flood wall systems are possible.
There are five variations in Flood Barriers:
a. Removable Flood Barriers b. Glass Flood Barriers c. Flip-Up Flood Barriers d. Drop Down Flood Barriers e. Containment Barriers
Flood Gates
Flood gates are designed for dependable flood protection whilst maximizing access availability. Our flood gates can be designed to operate on a dead level threshold allowing unrestricted vehicular, pedestrian and disabled access.
There are four variations in Flood Gate:
a. Lift-hinged flood gates b. Swing hinged flood gates c. Pivot flood gate
d. Sliding flood gate
Dam Easy® Flood Gate -Door Dam An excellent alternative to heavy and messy sandbags, this barrier provides the first line of defense to prevent water from entering doors and windows in your home. When flooding happens, the ability to act quickly is critical. This flood
21 protection barrier provides you with
reliable flood protection at your fingertips as it can be installed in under 10 minutes.
Quick Dam - Flood Gates
Quick Dam Flood Gates block doorways from oncoming flood water. This steel frame expands to fit multiple size doorways & seals off the doorway in just minutes, with no alterations or fixations needed.
2.2 Proposed System
Therefore, the Project Deluge Barriers provide the perfect solution for this problem as they are cheap and reliable and also comes with the maintenance cost that is very low, and affordable, it easy to make one as the parts required to make that it is easily available in the market also, the installation process is quite simple and can be easily done within a day
2.2.1 Disadvantages of existing system of flood response methods:
Availability – not easily available
Affordability – very high cost
Maintenance – cost of maintaining product is high
2.2.2 Advantages of proposed system of deluge barriers:
• Availability – easily available as a product, because all of the components used are easily accessible.
• Affordability – lost cost as a product, all components used are low price and good quality.
• Maintenance – cost of maintaining product is low, as components used are of good quality.
3 DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY 3.1 Proposed Design Var-Alpha
VAR-ALPHA is the first of the different variation of DELUGE BARRIERS. The following is the cad representation of DELUGE BARRIERS variation Design VAR-ALPHA. During the time of flooding the setup can be permanently installed in the door way. During the time flooding starts a metal plate can be slide down
effortlessly which automatically gets locked in the structure.
3.2 Hardwar Materials Required
For making the following Default Design were as follows:
3x Wooden Blocks
Horizontal wood block – 89 x 4.5 x 7.5 (cm)
Vertical wood block – 46 x 4.5 x7.5 (cm) (Dimensions can be adjusted according to setup requirements)
Metal Plate – 78 x 45 (cm)
(Dimensions according to setup requirements)
3.3 Hardware Materials Consideration and Properties
Metal Sheet
In the development of deluge barriers CRCA (Cold Rolled Close Annealed Steel) is used. CRCA is the most affordable sheet metal material available in the market. It is highly prone to corrosion
Properties:
i. Superior Surface Quality ii. Good Strength
iii. Excellent Weldability And Dimensional Accuracy
iv. Low Cost
v. Thickness Vary From 0.1mm To 5mm
vi. High Weight
Wooden Blocks
Wood is the most utilized building material after stone. Properties:
i. Capable Of Retaining Its Shape During All Seasons Changes ii. The Structure Is Uniformed iii. Good Resistance To Shocks iv. High Strength
v. Good Elasticity vi. Low Cost
vii. Very Low Permeability 4 OPERATIONS AND FEATURES

5 RESULTS, LIMITATIONS AND FUTURE WORK
5.1 Results
The Deluge Barriers variation, design VAR-ALPHA is successfully tested.
During this situation the water started rising abnormally, to a height of 38cm to 42 cm.
This Barrier provided best safety against the flood water with no leakage while the water height was up to 42 cm. This Barrier provided best safety against the flood water with no leakage for the water heightup to 45 cm. Approx. force acting on the metal sheet of deluge barrier
(Calculations are approx. as level or height of flood water and density of flood water changes every time)Forces on Submerged Surface-Vertical Wall Integration
By formula
Force = Average Pressure X Area of Surface
Force = (½ x Density xgx Height of Water) x (Lengthx Width)
Approximate force acting on metal sheet of deluge barriers is
Approximate F = (½ * 1000 * 9.8 * 0.42) * (0.45 * 0.78)
F = 722.358 Kg m / s2 F = 722 Newton

5.3 Limitations of Deluge Barriers Design – Var Alpha
If water level exceeds the expected limit the device is of no use
Can only be used in residential house doors width up to
100 cm.
Cannot be automated due to risk of electronic parts failure during longer sessions of flood.
Cannot be automated due to change in effective price.
5.4 Future Work for Deluge Barriers
To make a sustainable design which can hold water up to 80cm mark.
Can Only Be optimized to use in different places other than
residential house and can provide protection from flood for doors width more than 100 cm.
To work on water resistant automation methods which can be used during longer session of floods without failure.
To work on affordable method of automation which do not exceed the effective price.
