The Representation of the Anti-Mass Media Aesthetics in the Avant-Garde Art

The “avant-garde” movement in +3,*s together with Berlin Dada and the development of mass media technology ῌmainly the devel- opment of publication including photojournalism῍ had some close relation. The aim of this paper is to clarify what the anti-mass me- dia aesthetics meant and to show how the aesthetic was repre- sented in the work of artists of “avandt-garde”. In this analysis, I will focus on two works : the one is Kuechenmesser by Hannah Hoech, who worked for 0 years in Ullstein publishers. This work consists of various clippings from Berliner Illustrierter Zeitung, the most popular photo journal in Germany at that time. The other is Dada-cordial, the collaboration between Hausmann and Hannah
Hoech, which also used the clippings from the mass media to con- struct their extremely private self-images.
