W: Are you being helped?

M: No, but maybe you could help me. I'd like to have this cap gift-wrapped.

W: OK. We have a variety of gift boxes you can choose from.

M: Good, um, can you show me that heart-shaped one?

W: That looks lovely, but I think it would be too small for this cap.

How about these square boxes? They are big enough for it.

M: They sure are, but I like that one with the round top.

W: Excellent choice. Would you like a ribbon for an extra charge?

M: No thanks, I'd prefer it to be simple.

W: Great, I'll be right back with a new one. These ones are all for display.

M: Hi, Rebecca! How's your preparation for the job interview going?

W: I sent my application last Friday.

M: Good for you. Actually, I sent mine on Monday.

W: So now, we both need to prepare for the interview as much as possible, right?

M: Yes, how about going to the library on Thursday next week?

W: I'd love to, but I have a dentist appointment.

M: I want to go with you to the library because you're good at researching.

W: Let me check my schedule. Well, I'm available next Tuesday and Wednesday.

M: As a matter of fact, I think I'll be busy on Tuesday. How about Wednesday?

W: That sounds good. What time shall we meet?

M: I'm not sure when I'll be free. I will call you tomorrow morning.

W: Sounds good. Talk to you later.

W: Hello. May I help you?

M: Ah.. Hi. I need a car for my business trip this Saturday.

W: What kind of car do you have in mind?

M: Um... Anything will be good as long as it's cheap. What's the cheapest?

W: Well, the typical compact car is the cheapest and it's economical. The rate is fifty dollars per day or 10 dollars per hundred kilometers. Which one do you prefer?

M: I want to rent it by the day. By the way, do you have sports utility vehicles?

W: Yes, of course. We have many. However, the rate of those vehicles is a little bit higher than sedans. It's sixty dollars per day.

M: Okay, I think the first offer is better. And I want to use the car for 10 days.

Do you accept credit cards?

W: Thanks for taking care of her. I'll be there to pick her up in half an hour.

I’m going to take her to a vet near your place for some shots.

M: If you're busy, I could take her there for you.

W: No, I don’t want to bother you anymore. You've already helped so much.

M: Don’t worry about it. It’s no trouble at all.

W: Actually, I do have to go grocery shopping for dinner. If you could take her to the vet, that would be great.

M: No worries. Anything I can do to help you would be my pleasure.

W: I'm not sure, but I don't think I have any allergies.

M: Take these tablets with this syrup twice a day, thirty minutes after breakfast and supper. Please keep the syrup in the refrigerator.

W: Thanks. By the way, I commute a long way to my work every day. Will these make me sleepy?

M: No, you don't have to worry about that.

(5)

M: Hi, Barbara!

W: Hi, Minho. What a coincidence! I was just on my way to see you.

M: To see me? Do you have something to tell me?

W: Yes. I actually have a favor to ask of you. Can you help me?

M: It depends.

W: I do volunteer work for an adoption agency and one of the adopted children wants to visit Korea.

M: So, what can I do for you?

W: The problem is that he was adopted to a family in Spain and he barely speaks Korean. So, I need someone to interpret Spanish into Korean.

M: I can do that! I hope my Spanish is good enough.

W: Thank you.

M: My pleasure.

M: Please wish me luck for tomorrow. Tomorrow is a big day.

W: What is so special about tomorrow?

M: I have an interview for a job in a law firm.

W: Good for you! I'm sure you will get the job.

M: Thanks. I have been preparing for the interview, but I’m a little worried about my résumé.

W: What is the problem?

M: I have moved from company to company quite frequently over the past few years. So, I'm afraid they will think I am irresponsible.

W: I cannot agree with the city council's plans to cut back library services in the area. There are no good bookstores in our neighborhood, and besides, many people rely on libraries to borrow books that they can't afford to buy.

Although the Mobile Library Service may be expensive to run, many elderly people in the country area are unable to go to the Central Library. Abandoning the service would be to deprive them of one of life's pleasures. In my view, this is an unwise decision, which should be reconsidered.

M: The plane has already landed.

W: Jihyun should be here any minute.

M: It's been 2 years since I last saw her.

W: I've missed her a lot. She's finished her doctorate. I am very proud of her.

M: Now, I hope she will be able to take it easy and have a good time with us while she is with us.

W: Yeah. Anyway, what's taking her so long?

I can't wait to see her.

M: Me, too... Oh! Look! Here comes Jihyun.

W: Wait! What happened to her?

She's walking on crutches!

M: Let's go and check. I hope it's not serious.

W: Me, too! Hurry up!

(7)

M : Everything looks good. We are all ready for the presentation, aren't we?

W : I hope so, but there is one problem. I think I only prepared 100 copies of this handout. But it turns out that we need 20 more copies.

M : There's a copying machine downstairs.

W : I know, but it is out of order.

M : In that case, you can go to Royal Copying Center downtown. They charge 20 cents per page.

W : That sounds resonable to me, but there is somethingI want to check before the presentation. If I go downtown, I might not have enough time.

M : Give me the handout. I will have the copies made and bring them to you while you prepare your presentation.

W: I really appreciate it. I owe you one.

M: I know that you are telling me a lie. I know the differences between sunblock and makeup.

W: Sorry... I shouldn't have broken the school rules, but I just wanted to cover my pimples.

M: Didn't you know that makeup makes it worse?

W: You don't understand me. I hate my skin.

M: Jenny, Looks aren't everything.

When it comes to looks, always remember the old saying, _________________________________________.

W: __________________________________________________

M: Hi, Amy.

W: Hello, Samuel. How did your mid-terms go?

M: Not bad. I studied for all the subjects except math.

W: Did you get a good grade in math?

M: No, It's worse than I expected. It seems that I didn't understand what we learned in class.

W: Don't worry too much. You will do better on the finals.

M: I hope so. I know you're good at math. Can you give me some tips?

W: Well, that's tough. There's no special way but, whenever I have trouble solving a math problem, I never give up. I always try to solve as many questions as possible.

M: Hi, Jenny.

W: Hi, Mike. What's that in your hand?

M: Oh, My friend gave me two tickets for the upcoming jazzfestival, and I would like you to join me.

W: Thank you so much, Mike, but jazz is not my type of music. And whenever I hear jazz music, I never find it enjoyable.

M: That's too bad. Jazz is one of the greatest genres of music in the world. Even though I wasn't a big fan of jazz, I tried listening to the music to find what attracted many people to it.

W: So you like jazz now?

M : Yeah! How about giving it a chance?

W: Umm. I guess you're right but still, I am not sure.
