Fabrication and characterization of radiation image sensor module for security inspection system

The Radiation Equipment Fab. Center of Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) was built and full-scale operation was started from the Sep. of 2016. The purpose of Radiation Equipment Fab. is invigorate national radiation equipment research through set up the radiation generation/monitoring facility, performance facility and relative equipment. Radiation Equipment Fab. is targeting for creation of domestically producing infrastructure through commercialization as well as core technology research. And also,

Semiconductor based CMOS process is possible in the fab. and wafer scale Si based fabrication process optimization is in progress.

One of the focused research area is image sensor module for radiation (X-ray, Neutron) sourced security inspection system including Si PIN diode, sensor module fabrication and image processing. In this paper, fabrication and characterization of radiation image sensor module for security inspection system would be presented. Radiation image sensor module is made up of multiple radiation sensor which is assembly of array type Si PIN photodetector and scintillator. Development of Si PIN photodetector, scintillator coupling, sensor development and image sensor module assemble process would be described. Finally, X-ray container inspection image will be shown with in-house fabricated radiation image sensor module.
