2. Important notes on a statistics table are shown below the table together with the data source.

3. All statistical figures are rounded off, including the total and each item of the total. In some cases, the sum of all items may not exactly equal the total shown.

4. The data for 1997 and onwards is based on the new classification system of oil, and includes naphtha for raw material use.

5. The signs used in the statistics tables are as follows:

2. Coal

(1) Bituminous coal

The consumption of bituminous coal for fuel has been re-classified from 2000 (Textiles·Apparel → Oil·Chemistry).

(2) Anthracite coal

① The consumption of imported anthracite coal for generation has been modified from 2007.

② The consumption of anthracite coal for industry has been modified from 1990.

③ Calorific value of the consumption of anthracite coal for industry has been adjusted from 2012.

(3) Coherence of monthly and yearly values has been calibrated from 1990.

3. Petroleum

(1) Past time series data have been updated with recent data.

(2) The consumption of petroleum for industry has been re-classified from 1990 (Other energy → Oil·Chemistry).

- Hydro production recorded 102 thousand TOE, down 34.8 percent from the comparable month level a year ago. Renewables production was 1,637 thousand TOE, up 15.5 percent from the level a year earlier.

- Nuclear electric power stood at 2,893 thousand TOE, up 20.2 percent compared with 2,408 thousand TOE of the same month of 2018. Nuclear accounted for 61.6 percent of total domestic production in June 2019, maintaining the largest share of domestic production since 1989.

- All the anthracite, hydro and renewable energy accounted for only 38.4 percent of total energy production in June.

- Domestic production still kept low share of the primary energy consumption in June 2019, accounting for only 20.9 percent.

Primary Energy Consumption

◦ Primary energy consumption during June 2019 totaled 22,456 thousand TOE, down 4.8 percent from the level during June 2018.

- Petroleum consumption was 9,112 thousand TOE, down 5.0 percent from the consumption level during June last year. It accounted for 40.6 percent of total consumption in June.

- Coal consumption reached to 5,747 thousand TOE, down 12.8 percent from the level a year earlier.

- Natural gas consumption recorded 2,965 thousand TOE, down 13.3 percent from

the level in June 2019. The share marked 13.2 percent of total consumption.

Imports

◦ Total energy imports in June 2019 was 28,045 TOE, down 3.1 percent from the level a year earlier. Energy import amount in June amounted to 10,309 million dollars, with a year-on-year decrease of 19.1 percent.

- Total crude and petroleum products imports was worth of 45,892 million dollars, was accounting for 74.4 percent of total energy imports in June 2019.

- Coal and LNG imports showed 1,119 and 1,517 million dollars, respectively this June.

Energy Consumption

Final Energy Consumption

◦ Final energy consumption in June 2019 reached 17,902 thousand TOE, down 2.6 percent from the previous year level.

- Industrial sector consumption was 11,473 thousand TOE in June 2019, down 3.6 percent from the level of June 2018.

- Transportation sector consumption came to 3,620 thousand TOE in June 2019, down 1.2 percent from the previous June level.

- Energy consumption in residential & commercial sector recorded 2,236 thousand TOE.

- Public & other sector energy consumption was 574 thousand TOE in June 2019, up 3.2 percent from the previous June level.

Industrial Sector

◦ The energy consumption of industrial sector was 11,473 thousand TOE in June 2019, down 3.6 percent from the June 2018 level. This sector accounted for 64.1 percent of final energy consumption in June 2019, down 0.7 percentage point from its 64.7 percent share in June 2018.

- Coal consumption recorded 2,638 thousand TOE, down 3.6 percent compared with the year ago level.

- Petroleum consumption came to 5,264 thousand TOE, down 6.9 percent compared with June 2018.

- Electricity consumption posted 1,951 thousand TOE, down 1.6 percent compared

Transportation Sector

◦ The final energy consumption in transportation sector totaled 3,620 thousand TOE in June 2019, down 1.2 percent from the level of June 2018. This consumption accounted for 20.2 percent of final energy consumption in June 2019, up 0.3 percentage point from the 19.9 percent share in June 2018.

- Gasoline consumption marked 861 thousand TOE, up 3.7 percent from the level a year earlier.

- Diesel consumption was decreased by 1.6 percent from the previous June level, accounting for 49.0 percent share of the sector.

- LPG consumption decreased by 11.5 percent from the previous June, to 274 thousand TOE.

- B-C oil consumption went down 14.2 percent from a year earlier.

- Electricity consumption increased by 0.8 percent from the previous level.

Residential & Commercial Sector

◦ Energy consumption of residential and commercial sector was 2,236 thousand TOE in June 2019, down 1.0 percent from the level of June 2018. This sector accounted for 12.5 percent of final energy consumption in June 2019, up 0.2 percentage point from its 12.3 percent share in June 2018.

- Petroleum consumption decreased by 7.1 percent from the previous June level.

- Electricity consumption decreased by 0.2 percent and town gas consumption decreased by 0.9 percent from the levels in June 2018.

- Renewable energy consumption went up 18.4 percent from the previous year

level, to 46.2 thousand TOE.

Petroleum

◦ Total imports of crude oil in June 2019 came to 85.7 million barrels, down 12.5 percent from the previous June level, worth of 5,932 million dollars based on C&F.

Imports of petroleum products recorded 28.3 million barrels, down 1.0 percent, comparing with the level of previous June.

◦ Refinery throughput of crude oil in June 2019 decreased 7.0 percent from the previous June level to 84.0 million barrels. The average operation rate of refineries in June 2019 registered 84.6 percent, down 9.4 percentage point from its 94.0 percent of the previous June.

◦ Domestic petroleum consumption in June 2019 averaged 2,393 thousand barrels per day, down 125 thousand barrels from the June 2018 level.

- Petroleum products consumption of industrial is decreased by 6.6 percent and transportation sector decreased by 1.2 percent, from the levels in June 2018 respectively.

- Residential & commercial sector consumption down 8.2 percent over a year ago.

- Utilities consumption showed 0.5 million barrels, up 21.4 percent from the previous year level.

◦ Domestic petroleum consumption decreased by 4.9 percent from the previous year level to 71.8 million barrels.

- By products, gasoline consumption increased by 3.8 percent from the level of previous June.

- Diesel consumption came to 13.8 million barrels, down 1.2 percent from the level of June 2018.

- B-C oil consumptions in June 2019 went down 25.6 percent from the level of last year.

- LPG consumption went down 6.3 percent from the level of previous June, to 8.8

Coal

◦ Anthracite production in June 2019 recorded 85 thousand metric tons, down 25.4 percent from the level of previous year.

◦ Bituminous coal imports in June 2019 decreased by 7.4 percent to 9,445 thousand metric tons, compared with the June 2018 level.

- The import of coking coal increased by 15.3 percent and steam coal down by 14.4 percent from the levels in June 2018 respectively.

◦ Anthracite coal consumption during June 2019 recorded 669 thousand metric tons, down 15.6 percent from the previous June level. The share of anthracite coal in total primary energy consumption still stayed very low.

- Anthracite consumption in industrial sector went down 17.9 percent from the previous June level, to 559 thousand tons.

- The consumption in residential & commercial sector decreased by 42.9 percent from the previous June level.

- The consumption in power generation in June 2019 came to 102 thousand ton, it was increased by 5.0 percent from the level of June 2018.

◦ Bituminous coal consumption during June 2019 marked 8,577 thousand metric tons, down 13.2 percent from the previous June.

- Bituminous coal consumption for the iron & steel industry in June 2019 reached 2,865 thousand metric tons, down by 1.2 percent over the level of the same month of 2018.

- Bituminous coal consumption for power generation went down 19.5 percent and

cement went up 0.5 percent, from the comparable month of last year respectively.

LNG/Town Gas

◦ LNG consumption in June 2019 was 2,271 thousand metric tons, down 13.3 percent from the previous June level.

- LNG consumption for power generation decreased by 22.8 percent to 1,209 thousand metric tons compared with the level during previous June.

- The consumption in town gas sector went to 984 thousand metric tons, down 0.8 percent year-on-year base.

◦ Town gas consumption in June 2019 registered 1,274 million cubic meters, down 1.5 percent from the previous June level of 1,293 million cubic meters.

- The consumption of residential sector went down 1.3 percent and commercial sector went down by 0.3 percent from the previous June levels.

- Town gas consumptions in industrial sector went down 2.0 percent from the level a year earlier.

- There are 33 distributing companies of town gas in Korea, composed with three LPG suppliers and thirty natural gas suppliers, as of June 2019. LNG continued to be a major source of town gas, accounting for more than 99 percent of total town gas during June 2019.

- The number of customers for town gas went down 2.7 percent from the previous

June level, approaching to 18,773 thousand users as of the end June 2019.

Generation

◦ In June 2019, gross power generation totaled 43,743 GWh, it decreased by 1.69 percent from the June 2018.

- The share of thermal power generation was 201.7 percent of total power generation, down 20.3 percent point from the previous June.

- Nuclear power generation registered to 13,583 GWh, up 20.2 percent from the June 2018 level.

- Hydro power generation decreased by 34.8 percent, accounting for 1.1 percent of total power generation this June.

◦ Total electricity power capacity at the end of June 2019 was 120,471 MW, up 2.9 percent compared with the level in June 2018.

◦ Capability during June 2019 increased 3.7 percent year-on-year to 90,520 MW.

◦ Peak load in June 2019 recorded 75,206 MW, down 1.8 percent from the level of last year.

- The load factor was 80.8 percent in June 2019, increased by 0.1 percentage point from the previous June level. Average load was decreased 1.7 percent from last year. As a result, the reserve ratio went up 6.5 percentage point from the previous June level.

Consumption

◦ Total sales of electricity to end-users in June 2019 was 40,620 GWh, down 1.0

percent over the June 2018 level of 41,046 GWh.
