This course provides an introduction to the study of film through a detailed examination of a range of films.

The West and the World Since 1550
This course examines the history of European society and its interactions with the civilizations and peoples of Asia, Africa, and the Americas from the mid‐seventeenth century through the end of the twentieth. The global movement of people, ideas, and economic practices between these different regions receive particular attention, as do processes of imperialism and colonialism. Topics covered include the rise of Absolutism; the expansion of European empires; the American, French, and Russian Revolutions; the Industrial Revolution; the two World Wars; and the Cold War. Students are also introduced to the discipline of History and to the skills of document analysis, historical writing, and primary source research.
