Cloud Computing Technology

In cloud computing the word "cloud" is used as a metaphor for "the Internet,"

so ―cloud computing‖ means a type of Internet-based computing, where different services – servers, storage and applications – are delivered to users.

There are two main types of clouds: public and private. Public clouds are typically put up by a service provider—such as Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, IBM SoftLayer, and Oracle Cloud.

Private clouds are dedicated to one organization or business, and often have much more specific security controls than a public cloud. Many medical offices, banking institutions, and other organizations which are required to meet federal and state guidelines for data controls use a private cloud.

Cloud storage enables users to access and download data on any device, such as a laptop, tablet or a smartphone. Cloud storage users can also edit documents simultaneously with other users and make it easier to work away from the office. An example of a Cloud Computing provider is Google's Gmail.

Cloud computing technology has several key advantages:

- Flexibility. Users can chose services to fit their needs, customize applications and access cloud services from anywhere with an internet connection.

- Cost-efficiency. Cloud computing uses remote resources and saves organizations the cost of servers and other equipment.

- Ease of use .Cloud-based applications and data are accessible from any internet-connected device.

- Backup and recovery. Hardware failures do not result in data loss because of networked backups.

On the other hand, cloud computing have some disadvantages:

- It always depends on the network connection.

- It has limited features. The Internet speed may vary and you may experience limited storage space or accessibility. Cloud providers will charge you for premium services and extra space.

- Loss of Control. Working in the cloud you cannot control the integrity and safety of the cloud servers yourself.

- Security. Cloud hacking cases can happen. Not all cloud providers are as secure as they say they are. One of cloud computing’s greatest disadvantages is that you don’t always know which providers you can trust.

- Technical Problems. If you experience any technical problems, you have to call your provider’s technical support for help.
