(as the 1st Initiative of the Asia-Talloires Network of Engaged Universities – ATNEU) EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The 2nd USR&S Forum builds on the outcomes of the 1st AUN USR&S Workshop 2010 in Burapha University, Thailand, where key representatives from the participating ASEAN member universities shared best practices in USR&S initiatives across research, education and service. The general consensus at this workshop was the need to strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions and diverse stakeholders in order drive social responsibility collaborations for community development.
Themed “Knowledge for the People, Research for Community Life”, this 2nd Regional USR&S Forum brings together academics, and individuals who are committed to social responsibility initiatives from industries, government agencies, trade chambers, philanthropic foundations, and NGOS.
OBJECTIVES:
To define, through case studies, AUN’s Conceptual Framework of university social responsibility and sustainability, i.e. Teaching & Learning, Research and Academic Services, University Governance and Administration, Community Involvement and Campus Life.
To capture knowledge from the sharing of best practices from Social Responsibility practitioners from academia, industry and non-governmental organizations.
To develop capacity to integrate community-based research and development into the curriculum and co-curriculum.
To develop a platform and opportunities for youth volunteerism across Southeast Asian communities and beyond.
