Meta-Analysis Study of the Relationship between Depression and Stress of Students in Islamic Boarding School to the Level of Success
in Memorizing Al-Qur’an and Academic Learning Achievement

ABSTRACT
Depression and stress are aspects that need to be watched out for by students because of the many demands that must be achieved. This aspect is also felt by students who study in Islamic boarding schools, where students not only learn academic knowledge but also learn religious knowledge such as memorizing the Qur’an. The number of demands felt by students makes students worry about the health of students, especially the level of depression and stress. This study aimed to see how the relationship between the level of depression and stress of students in influencing the success rate of memorizing the Qur’an and academic achievement. Meta-analysis was carried out by re-analyzing the results of research from various journals that had been published regarding the level of depression and stress in students.
The test method used Pearson's test with product moment which aimed to determine the strength of the relationship of the variables used in the study. The journals used in the meta-analysis study amounted to 10 journals and provided sufficient results on the relationship between the level of depression and stress of students on the success rate of memorizing the Qur’an and academic achievement.

INTRODUCTION
Learning activities in Islamic boarding school are of course different from learning activities in public schools. Students who study in Islamic boarding schools in addition to studying the field of academic sciences also learn about religious sciences, such as the Qur’an, hadith, creed, Fiqh, Islamic cultural history, Arabic, and memorizing the Qur’an. The subjects that require the most effort in learning activities are memorizing the Qur’an. Students' interest in memorizing the Qur'an is high, but memorizing is still very difficult even with various methods (Arsita, 2016). The students in Islamic boarding schools are required to be proficient in academic subjects, they must also be proficient in religious studies and must achieve the target of memorizing the Qur’an every day. The various demands are very heavy, it is feared that students have a certain level of depression and stress to live life in Islamic boarding schools. Depression and stress are two very important aspects for management because they are closely related to the health of students. Depression is a disorder that attacks mood states and affects attitudes to lose interest in something. Stress is a person's reaction to environmental influences that require a person to adapt to a new environment.
The level of depression and stress of students in learning academic science and memorizing the Qur'an has been carried out by previous research. This previous research has been published in the form of articles, journals, and theses. The purpose of this study was to re-analyse by means of meta-analysis of previous research studies

regarding the relationship between depression and stress levels of students in learning academic science and memorizing the Qur’an. Meta analysis is an analysis method that is carried out on the results of two or more scientific research results. The meta- analysis in this study aims to describe the results of two or more related studies in order to provide evidence of a stronger and real relationship and reduce statistical errors from existing sources of findings (Nindrea, 2016; Jesson, 2011). The results of the meta- analysis will be presented to strengthen and improve the findings from the results of previous studies so that further research will be more reliable.
METHODOLOGY
The research method used is Pearson’s Correlation Test. The Pearson's test to determine the magnitude of the relationship between the related variables, then a product moment is carried out using the help of statistical tests. The results of the statistical analysis calculations that have been obtained are then described in accordance with the test results. The research sample used 10 journals or research results that have been published relating to the relationship between students' levels of depression and stress on memorizing the Qur’an and learning success.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
The scientific research used in this meta-analysis research is 10. The reason for using these 10 journals is because the research year is still new and the research theme is very related. The topics of discussion of 10 scientific studies were related to: the level of depression of students, psychosocial stress of students in academics, the relationship between stress levels in memorizing the Qur’an, the effect of memorizing the Qur’an on depression levels, the relationship between happiness control and stress management of students who memorize the Qur’an, the level of anxiety of students in learning, the level of depression and anxiety of students in the academic and religious fields, the relationship between learning in Islamic boarding schools and stress management, factors that influence stress on students in Islamic boarding schools, and the psychological well-being of students who memorize al-Quran. Qur’an. All of these scientific studies had been published and have different results.
The journals used in this study still have themes that are not all the same, so the journals were then grouped based on the variables studied and coded as follows to facilitate researchers in conducting data analysis. The variables in this study will be coded, namely the level of depression in students (J1), stress levels in students (J2), the relationship between depression and stress levels with memorizing the Qur’an (J3), and the relationship between depression and stress with student learning success (J4).
These variables were then grouped and presented in Table 1.

J4 10. Psychological Well-Being of Students who Memorize the Qur’an J3 The next step, after grouping the journals based on the same theme, the researchers analyzed data with the Pearson's test with product moment statistics. The results of the statistical tests were presented in Table 2.

Based on the results obtained from Table 2. Journals with code J1 have a corelation value of 0.023, journals with code J2 have corelation value of 0.034, and journals with code J3 have corelation value of 0.026. The three journal codes had values less than 0.05. These statistical results can be interpreted that there are depression and stress factors in students that affect the life and process of memorizing the Qur’an of students in Islamic boarding schools. Journal code J4 returned a corelation value of 0.223 which exceeds 0.05. This means that aspects of depression and stress have no effect on the success of students' learning in the academic field.
The level of depression and stress was quite influential on the process of memorizing the Qur’an of students. Memorizing the Qur’an is indeed not easy, it required great intention and will from within the students. If self-will is very low, it will be very difficult to memorize the Qur’an. If the demands for memorizing the Qur'an are higher, but the lack of willingness of students to memorize it, depression and stress will easily occur in students. Not all students can memorize the Qur’an easily, because they are not trained from an early age. In contrast to the academic knowledge they have obtained from elementary school. The results of the meta- analysis show that there is no effect on aspects of depression and stress on the success of students' learning in the academic field.
CONCLUSION
Aspects of depression and stress are easy to approach students in the learning process.
If students do not have an interest in learning but have high demands for learning, then

these two aspects will be very easy to exist in students. The results of the statistical test from the meta-analysis of the influence of aspects of depression and stress on students memorizing the Qur’an show that there is a relationship between aspects of depression and stress with the process of memorizing the Qur’an. Not infrequently students will feel depressed and stressed if the target for memorizing the Qur’an has not been achieved.
