The PAM Awards announcement and presentation ceremony is our annual celebration of great Malaysian architecture and the most prestigious award for exemplary buildings recognized by our construction industry. However, I am grateful for the participation of our members in this year's PAM Awards with the wide selection of architectural, conservation and planning excellence.

For this reason, the PAM Awards recognize and give recognition to these architects, to give credit where credit is due in the hope that this will encourage all our architects to continue in this challenging time. Since we launched the Green Building Index, our green assessment tool, ten years ago, we are seeing an increasing number of projects submitted to the PAM Awards, which showed excellent attention and good design response to the environment.

This building brings a conversation about how an architect can successfully balance the complexities of need, function and context; inside, the building skilfully plays with space, hierarchy, and light. The AICB building is worthy of being declared a winner as it clearly channels justice and enthusiasm.
The library is a hidden gem located on the lowest floor sheltered by the atrium that is designed to promote interaction, communication and noises.

The project is a heritage building in a heritage enclave and the architect has successfully integrated the design with the surrounding and existing structure. Although it was a burned-out unit that could only be slightly salvaged, the architect managed to reassert much of its original identity. Contemporary metalwork has been introduced to articulate the walls and grids, using the new to charmingly complement the old without altering the originality of the building.
It is a commendable series of conservation works for several small-scale projects which are beautifully done with care and evident consideration of heritage constraints.

Saltwater aquariums are integrated into the indoor hall where underwater species are showcased, enhancing the user experience as something not normally seen in common developments. The selection of materials and colors used is harmonious and reminiscent of the port city of Klang, with intricate details, something very bold from the architect and usually not seen in many commercial developments.” As one moves further into the second level of the bay, the internal hall is an air-conditioned space that can house an aquarium measuring 6 meters high and 6 meters in diameter as the main attraction.
Imitation of boat hulls, interplay of different levels, spacing, depths and color at the ceiling further enforces the ambiguity of under the sea.
