Activity 2: Social Skills Training I Participants will be introduced to group activities which are fun and engaging as well meaningful in ways which would help them develop effective strategies in socializing.
Activities will be carried out in small groups, so that participants can receive comparable amount of attention to ensure better
learning.
Activity 3: Social Skills Training II This session is tailored specifically for individuals with reading and spelling difficulties with modified content and includes an emphasis on pictographic materials. Enjoyable activities include
learning about feelings, learning to relax and learning to handle problems effectively.
Parents’ Programme
The main objective is to inform parents of the evidence-based fluency training method of intervention for reading and writing skills.
Parents will also be taught the techniques as well as a chance to do it for themselves. In this way, they can reinforce and help main- tain their children's newly acquired skills long after the workshop. This talk also cov- ers techniques in social skills training in- cluding anger management for children.
OBJECTIVES
1. To impart related skills to children with reading and writing difficulties and their parents/
caregiver to help
increase their self-esteem.
2. To increase parental involvement in helping their children with reading and writing difficulties.
Activity 1: Fluency Training Participants will be introduced to a series of worksheets and activities that will enhance their writing and motor skills. The effects of fluency training can be observed immediately which will further help boost their self- esteem. The primary aim of this module is to help participants be aware of their improvement level, and to increase their motivation and confidence in approaching a certain task. Another aim is for the parents to see for themselves their child’s ability to improve within a short span, and thus be encouraged to ensure its conitnuity in the home.
