Thanks to Allah SWT, with His willing and giving me the opportunity to complete this research which is title The Impact o f Construction Activities on Environment Pollution in Suburban Areas on time even facing with some difficulties. ABSTRACT

The construction industry is one o f the economic sectors that play an important role in contributing to Malaysia economic development. As compared to other industries, construction has an important activity and that is consumption o f energy and non renewable resources and it also generates a fairly large amount o f pollutants, including air emissions, noise, solid waste, and water discharge. Environmental impact can occur at the various stages o f property development, from construction to occupation, if inadequate mitigation measures are taken.

Basically, the environmental impacts being studied in these studies are focused on noise pollution, air pollution, and water pollution. The purpose o f the study is to provide construction management with the knowledge to identify environment issues associated with their activities and best practice methods to minimize pollutions impact. The objectives for this study about management on construction activities identify the types environment problems due to construction activities and to analyze the impact o f pollution will occur to surroundings. This study is carried out based on literature review, questionnaire survey, and also interview to achieve the aim and objectives.

Mostly the environment problems are from employees that take it easy to follow the guideline by authorities. In order to improve the working environment o f construction site to a better condition, the appropriate management on the construction site and good planning are necessary. Through these studies, the author wishes that the environmental impacts due to construction in Malaysia will be reduced.

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Study Background

Construction activities are considered as one o f the main sources o f environmental pollution in the world. The level o f knowledge and awareness o f management and project participant’s especially project managers with regards to environmental impact o f construction activities needs to be enhanced. This study aims to assess the most common environmental pollutions impacts due to the constructions activities process in Malaysia. Into retort to these problems, government and authorities should recognize various actions and measures^to make lighten o f environmental problems. Besides that, contractors and developers also necessitate to be incorporated for environmental protection measures in their construction projects.

Furthermore, to make light o f environmental impact it is essential to recognize the link between various construction activities and the probable for these activities to impact on the environment. Environmental managing will depend on the temperament o f the site activities and the sensitivity o f the project area and its surrounding. For instance, excavations resulting in steep slopes are liable to lead soil erosion and water quality problems downstream and will necessitate the installation o f erosion protection.
